13 Fall Fashion Trends You Have To See To Believe

I’m not much of a fashionista.  Typically, I wait a few seasons before embracing a particular trend.

For example, let’s take the bootie heels that have been making waves for the past few seasons.  You know, these:

Yeah, I’ll probably get around to buying a pair in 2012 (hopefully before December 21, 2012, since that is when the Mayans say the world will come to an end).

I had every intention of writing up a post on the 13 Trends For Your Fall 2008 Wardrobe.  In it, I planned to include everything from moccassins to fringe to metallics to floral prints.

I was even going to tell you that I planned on wearing the “it” color this season-PURPLE!!  That is easy enough since it is one of my favorite colors and I already wear it every fall anyway.  At least this season, I’ll be in vogue.

Lucky for you, I got sidetracked looking for pictures of the aforementioned trends and happened to stumble across some very ”unique” looks for fall 2008.  These are courtesy of Fashion Week in London.

Prior to seeing these photos, I was always jealous of the rich and famous for being able to go to Fashion Week in NY, Paris, London and Milan while I was stuck home in my yoga pants and a t-shirt.  Now I’m jealous for a different reason.  I wish I could be there to laugh at these ridiculous outfits in person.

These trends are absolutely absurd and I just can’t believe that these photos are from real fashion shows. How the models and audience can keep a straight face is beyond me.

Here are the 13 Fall Fashion Trends You Have to See to Believe:

What do you think of these trends?  Do you think you will be adding any of them to your wardrobe this fall?

I purposely decided not to comment on the “looks” because I wanted to leave that to my readers.  Go for it.  Name these trends.  Pick your “favorite” and give the picture a caption.

Can’t wait to read what you have to say!

Ok, so if I dress like one of the characters in Wicked, I’m all set?
Or perhaps I should try for the Violet Beauregard post everlasting gobstopper look?
Yeah…that’s so me. I’m all over it.

    Holy Frickin Crap…

    ok…

1- Ahhh. The witch coven makes a comeback.

2- winter olympic gymnast or fencer?

    3- the crack-whore-schoolgirl-who-tanned-in-large-shades- look… nice…

4- i don’t mean to be crass, but isn’t this kind of the “rape victim” look???

    5- The badger…

6- “And Sophie, from Russia can be your mail order bride for just $11,000…”

7- “I’d like you to meet Uncle Festers illegitimate child, cousin neckless…”

8- “What? This isn’t Wicked? Dang it… A Fashion show? I’m in the wrong place. Why do I always do this?”

    9- Speaking of Wicked, look! It’s Goth-Dorthy!

10- In case of a crash, your dress/vest can be used as a combination flotation device/air bag!

11- “In Marshal arts, my suit help me fly…”

12- “This coat is called the Autumnal Gord…”

13- There are two options here… A) “What? Isn’t this the star trek convention? Where’s Spock?” or B.) It’s Goth Dorthy’s friend in drag- Goth She-Tin…

And yeah… in answer to your question: No. I won’t plan on anything remotely like this…

Number two is wrong on so many levels . . . but mostly I hate her because there is a little gap between her legs at her crotch where her THIGHS DON’T TOUCH.

For the rest of them, I like Misty’s comments :-)

  5. NiceOne on October 2nd, 2008 8:35 am

Ok, thanks for the ideas! I’m off to the mall to update my fall wardrobe!

  6. Amy on October 2nd, 2008 8:41 am

i think i’m stunned into silence…what WAS that?

  7. Jean@workingmomma247 on October 2nd, 2008 8:51 am

Halloween obviously came early this year.
The question I always wonder, is what do these models think of wearing these horrendous outfits?

  8. Emily on October 2nd, 2008 10:20 am

How are they not freaking out with all those gigantic caterpillers on them? I would be soooo freaking out.

  9. Jen E @ mommablogsalot on October 2nd, 2008 10:24 am

Why does #5 have a bag on her head? Was it placed there by force? Is she going to LIVE?

  10. Lynette on October 2nd, 2008 10:24 am

I feel like I just got off some fantasy voyage gone bad - like Star Trek clashed with the Wizard of Oz. Right now I am stunned and scared. I believe #13 got a deal on some drainage pipe - I’d like to see her walk through airport security.

  11. Carrie on October 2nd, 2008 11:51 am

It’s like a cross between Halloween and The Wizard of Oz.

Where are the Oscar gowns? Where? Rachael Zoe would so not approve nor would she call any of these looks “bananas.” Well, perhaps the fur dress, but that is all.

Sorry I can’t participate. As a fashion school graduate I swore I would ALWAYS call it art. It’s art Jen! :)

I can however say this, If I ever put # 2 on, those lines are not going to be straight.

  13. Susan in the Psych Ward on October 2nd, 2008 4:54 pm

All of them: “I didn’t eat for the past month so I could wear THIS????? I’m walking righ tout of here and go for a cheeseburger (or 13)! Oh, but I have to change first! Don’t want real people to see me wearing THIS!!!!!!”

    All I have to say.

Oh, and I’ve found a few Halloween costume ideas!! Thanks!

  14. Tonya on October 2nd, 2008 6:49 pm

It looks like a few other people picked up on the same thing I did…the Wizard of Oz. I think I saw the tin man, the cowardly lion, the scarecrow and Dorothy herself….maybe even a few of the lollipop kids (boy, they sure did lose a lot of weight)! :)

  15. formercitygirl on October 2nd, 2008 9:29 pm

Wow! For a second there I thought I was watching the Wizard of Oz.

  16. Kate on October 2nd, 2008 9:41 pm

I love that style of boots! When I return from vacation they are going to be my first winter purchase. They will look good with dresses and tights, leggings and a tunic, jeans, skinny jeans (if you wear them) and many other outfits. Now, for the other fashions… a lot of these are haute couture fashion and you’ll see people like Posh, Charlize and J.Lo actually wearing some of these outfits, but no, the majority of people (celebrities and us common folk) will not be wearing them. You also have to pick apart the outfits and then you’ll see more celebrities wearing them. They might wear the dress in #1 by itself, but wear the cape with a wide belt over a skirt and top separately - and probably w/o the hood, unless it’s raining ;-) Sometimes people will also ask the designers to alter their designs, or they might have been designed to be altered. Like the last one, they might remove the top part near the sleeves, not wear the pants with the outfit and wear a pair of satin peep-toe shoes. And the hair and make-up usually doesn’t transfer onto the red carpet :-p The fashion shows need to be different and stand out in order to get the mass media talking about them - so that’s what a lot of designers, like John Galliano and others, do. And look, this blod is proof of that! ;-)

  17. Wendi on October 2nd, 2008 11:17 pm

    Oh wow!
I hardly know what to say.

    1. Little Red Riding Hood gone bad…I mean blue!
    2. Oops…this wasn’t supposed to make it to the runway. This was one of those “rough draft” suits for Olympic swimmers. It didn’t make the cut, but it somehow made it to the runway! * BTW my muffin top would look fabulous in this!
3.A wardrobe malfunction in the making. She was obviously suppose to wear a cami underneath and she didn’t get the memo!
    4.Help a girl out…She can’t breathe! Get that thing off her head…NOW!
5.What is she wearing? Whatever it is….it is still bleeding.
6.Has anyone seen my pet ostrich? Anyone?
7.I think they were trying to hide the fact the model has no neck, huge shoulders, and an enormous hump on her back. Backfire! It only accentuated it.
    8.Throw that witch a cheeseburger…or three.
9,This is wrong on so many levels. A few too many feathers for my taste.
10.What a novel idea…an outfit with a built in life jacket. For a night out or an afternoon of fishing. You choose.
11.I believe I can fly! I bet she can too in that get up!
    12.Ruffles gone WILD!!!
13.I can’t imagine walking through airport security in that. It is metal…right?
    Must be heavy and cumbersome.

oops…I commented on them all…I guess they were all near and dear to my heart!
    Thanks Jen for the laughs!

  18. Cindy on October 3rd, 2008 2:16 am

I love the shoes in #6. And part of me wants the big orange jacket that takes over one’s body. It looks toasty for those cold, long winters.

  19. tyne on October 3rd, 2008 9:39 am

Oh, I am so glad that I can be pulling some of these items out of our attic from the kids’ halloween costumes. You have got to be kidding me! I love the new fall looks. And I think black lipstick is so flattering.

  20. KD (A Bit Squirrelly) on October 3rd, 2008 11:32 am

Okay so my 5 year old is going as dorothy and a few of those outfits will work as the wicked witch so I am all set!

  21. McMommy on October 3rd, 2008 11:55 am

Can you imagine if I wore #1 to go pick up Matty from school??
And I was all serious about it….like “What? This is the hottest fall trend!”
    That would be so awesome.

  22. Becks on October 3rd, 2008 2:34 pm

I personally am going to be wearing # 9 this fall.

  23. Patrice on October 3rd, 2008 10:54 pm

Wait I’m confused… is this an actual fashion show or a halloween costume fashion show b/c I can’t tell! ha

  24. Karen@If I Could Escape . . . on October 4th, 2008 7:05 am

Oh yeah! I can so totally see myself in all of those at the munchkin’s weekly playdate!

Got something to say?
