Fine By 2009: 4 Weeks to Go!
Let’s take a look at the medal winners for this week’s workout challenge:
Remember I changed the qualifications to 5-7 workouts for Gold and one person was able to step up to the challenge:

Congrats to Jen E. from Momma Blogs Alot for being a Gold Medal Workout Winner.

Our silver medal (2-4 days) workout champion is Andrea from Red Knows How.
David Beckham is happy for our winners but seems a little disappointed that there were only two.

Ok, so maybe he doesn’t exactly look disappointed in this photo, but I’m hoping the way he is glaring at us will do something to get us off our butts this week and moving.
A few months ago, I was over at one of my favorite blogs, Even the Nice Ones, and I happened to read the following:
Last year, I lost a bit over 75 lbs. Au Natural (if you call running your ass off natural). I literally could not run to the end of my street in August of 2007. Last Saturday I ran 10 miles.
I was completely in awe and wanted to know more so I emailed her and asked her how she got motivated, stayed motivated, etc…
Here is part of her reply:
I got motivated in a few different ways. The first was that I looked at pictures from my son’s 8th birthday party (april ‘07) and freaked out. I hadn’t realized that I let myself get THAT heavy. I knew I had gained weight, but I seriously didn’t recognize myself in those photos. It was scary.
I also realized that I was going to turn 30 in a year from then. It was a wake up call. Was I going to enter my 30’s the heaviest ever? Or would I begin them being in the best shape of my life?
I immediately began modifying my diet a bit that May. I dropped about 15 to 20 pounds by 4th of July that year. After that, I started Atkin’s. My husband had radical success with Atkins in ‘02 so I did that.
By the end of August I had dropped a significant amount of weight, maybe 30 more pounds. I also got serious about running on my kids first day of school. I started with Couch 2 5K. I just ran every day. And every week I pushed it harder.
I did my first 5K in November. I cried because I never thought it’d be possible. By Thanksgiving I had gone from a size 22/24 to an 18. By Christmas I bought a size 16. By late January was a 16, and running over 20 miles a week. I competed in my first 10K. I also got really tired and was just not in spirits. In talking with my doctor, I just wasn’t eating right. I needed more carbs and less exercise, so I changed the diet. I maintained my weight.
On my 30th birthday I ran my furthest distance of that year…8 miles. It was a big deal. I was wearing a size 14 which was just fine on my frame. I am not a thin person, bone wise. I actually want to drop another 40 to 50 lbs but have been told by many that would look funny on me. I was a size 16 the day I graduated from high school, so I was happy

Got something to say?

What a great story – very inspirational! I lost only one pound last week but I’m actually pretty impressed with that given that I went over my calorie allotment every day from Thursday – Sunday – I guess all that Wii-ing really is helping

I knew I didn’t do as well working out this week, but a two pound loss still makes me happy! And I’ll take a silver medal if it means I actually did something. Gooooo me!

[...] How are your diets going? Anybody else still pumped to be looking fine by 2009? [...]
I couldn’t tell you how much exercise I was doing last week due to being at Disney. However, does walking as much as I did last week for SIX days count as a lot of exercise? It must have because I was down TWO pounds last week AND we ate VERY well while we were there!!! I have to go blog about it now!!!

I so didn’t work out last week. Bad me. So busy, and I had a cold. But I start a boot camp tomorrow and if doesn’t kill me, I should lose a couple pounds.
The tips are great, they make sense but sometimes it’s just so hard to DO IT!!

My favorite part of my run/jog/brisk walk is the music I have plugged into my iPod. I put all my favorite “up” music on a 2 hour “work out” loop and only allow myself to listen to them when I am exercising. If I hear one of the songs on the radio, I literally make myself change the station. So, some days I look forward to my daily jog just so I can hear Trace Adkins deep voice echoing through my head… Whatever works for ya

I am a regular reader of The Nice One, she is amazing! I think the hardest part of starting up a running program is sticking with it the first couple of weeks. You’re so winded and it’s not yet a part of your life and it just stinks. But once you see how much progress you’re making, it’s encouraging.
Also, get good music ! I used to run on the treadmill with a wall mirror so I could see what my legs looked like & I would envision what I wanted them to look like. Stupid, but it worked for me.
Now, I am trying to get back in shape again after my 3rd baby, and it’s easier after already knowing I have it in me.
Good luck!!

Tuesday – Just did a 1.5 mile power walk and I feel good yet ready to lay down on the floor for a half hour. I pushed myself really hard this time and have only been doing .5 mile walks lately so this one was rough. 20 minutes! I kept thinking to myself – “Keep going and this weight will come off” thank goodness for self support.

Yesterday – Did unknown minutes of Wii with MM, then more by myself – I wasn’t keeping track of time, but I played repeatedly through out the day and also took a 10 minute walk with MM.

Today – Did about 20-30 minutes of Wii tennis, baseball, bowling and golf. My scores are up from yesterday.

Ran last night! This working thing has screwed up the running schedule. Got my alarm set for 5 a.m. tomorrow. Let’s see if I actually wake up to go out!

Okay, I haven’t done any running – or any walking, unless you count to the kitchen – but I HAVE bestowed another (do you need another?) award on your blog!! Check me out!

Did twenty minutes of Wii today – had to do boxing for my fitness test and my arms are all achy!

Tuesday – Did a mile power walk and did some extra five minutes of jumping jacks and other working out

Whoops, that should say Wednesday – what day of the week is it?

Didn’t work out yesterday :/ Completely dropped the ball.

Did 20 minutes or so of Wii today

Friday – Did 1.5 mile power walking with my pal Leslie (sansone) – 20 minutes. I thought working out should be getting easier? Maybe I’m not doing it enough doing it only 3x a week or so. I’m aiming for 4 this week. That means one workout either Saturday or Sunday.

Saturday – Did 1 mile power walk and may be dying. I guess eating Mcdonald’s doesn’t agree with working out shortly thereafter. Even though I fit it into my calorie intake it still feels bad.
So this means I did 15 minutes walking and I will be playing wii this evening for a little while to make up for the rest of the time. Maybe boxing because my legs are killing me but my arms could go for more.
