Fine by 2009: 5 Weeks to Go

A lot of people have asked me why I would want to start any type of weight loss plan before the holidays.  They claimed that there were far too many obstacles with all the temptations of cookies, pies and other holiday treats.

Well, it is true.  This is a bad time for a diet, but when you really think about it, there are many days in the next month that are not full of temptations.

Let’s take this week for example.  Thanksgiving is only one day.  I still think if you eat really well the other six days you should be fine.  Here are a few other tips for not overdoing it on Turkey Day:

  • Set realistic goals. At a holiday dinner or party, indulge in some goodies, but eat smaller portions. Have only one glass of wine or Champagne. Take half a slice of pie.
  • Avoid skipping meals before a big holiday meal. You don’t want to arrive starving and then gorge yourself on sweets and other unhealthy fare.
  • Drink lots of water.
  • Use moderation and relax. If you break down and eat a high-fat dessert, just go easy on what you have the rest of the day or cut back a few calories tomorrow.

Now for the awards ceremony from last week, I present our host and motivational trainer, Mr. David Beckham:

I love that picture of him!!

Now, remember you have to leave a comment to win a medal.  As far as the question about whether or not the Wii workout counts, I really have no idea since I don’t have a Wii (yet).  I would say if you break a sweat and your heartbeat is elevated for an extended period of time that it should count but I guess I’ll leave that up to you to decide.  If you feel that it counts for a workout then feel free to leave a comment.

The Gold Medal winners are:

Andrea @ Red Knows How

The Silver Medal winners are:

Jenny @ Runningamuck

Jean @ Momma 247

For next week,  I’m changing the requirements a bit.  Here they are:

Silver:  2-4 workouts

Gold:  5-7 workouts

How is everyone else doing with their progress.  I pulled my back out again.  Ironically, I was trying to do the “Bend it Like Beckham” kick with a ball that was in my way.  I must have moved in a way that upset the precious alignment of my spine or lower back muscles because I am in so much pain today.  Ugh.

This is EXACTLY why I need to be doing more exercise.  I think if my core was stronger I wouldn’t be constantly pulling out my back.

And if that wasn’t motivation enough, I just made plans that included me in a swimsuit in January.  I thought I had another 6 months before having to face that horror again, but Mickey made me an offer I couldn’t refuse and we are boarding the Disney Wonder for a 4 night cruise (sans kids-it is a travel agent special that would be too pricey with the kids) in January.  Can’t wait!!  (Except for the bathing suit part.)

How is your progress coming?  Link up if you have did a check in post:

OMG nice shot of David Beckham – yowza!!! Love it! Good luck with Thanksgiving – it’s hard not to splurge but you’re right, it’s only one day :-)

I lost .4 lbs. Better than nothing right? I did really good with my eating and I exercised 4 times if you count the We Cheer that I did on the Wii! :)

Hmmm didn’t manage to actually workout or even play Wii last night – we’re trying to clean the bedroom out to make more room so the only sweat I broke into was from doing that for an hour or so last night. :/ Better luck tonight?

My mom did the Disney Cruise thing, too (without her kids and grandkids- she’s a travel agent, too) I was so jealous! Good luck on your progress.

I thought I was the last person in America that didn’t have a Wii.

I’m doing really good at finishing up the halloween candy so it’s gone for good :) I just need to get it out of the way once and for all. I haven’t been on the scale in weeks as I’m a bit scared…maybe January 1st…isn’t that when everyone starts dieting. I can jump on the bandwagon then!

Played wii with my son for about 45 minutes which was too fun – even at 2 he’s already hooked on video games – haha

Hours and hours and hours of Wii sports at game night tonight, nevermind the longer than long walk through the mall with two unwilling toddlers this afternoon…

I spent twenty minutes working out yesterday – 10 power walking and 10 more strength training. Want to try this silly indoor power walking thing? Go to lesliesansone.com
