In The Air Tonight

I can feel it coming in the air tonight.  Remember that creepy song?  What was he even talking about anyway?  Actually while I’m on the subject of mysterious Phil Collins songs, what the heck is a Sussudio?  I’ve always wanted to know.

So what is it that I’m feeling in the air tonight?

Fall.  Autumn.  It doesn’t matter what you call it because it all means the same thing.  Summer is almost over and that makes me want to cry.

Everywhere I look there are back to school ads.  It is unavoidable.  Trust me, I’ve tried not to see them, but they just won’t go away.

This chilly weather is pretty much all I needed to push me over the edge into a dark pit of depression.  (Guess who didn’t get in touch with her doctor for some happy pills?)

Just when I think things can’t get any worse, I tune into the Olympics Opening Ceremonies to find out that my favorite fish (Michael Phelps) is too busy resting for his early morning event to be there.  What kind of lame excuse is that?

I almost turned the tv off right there and then but it was such an amazing spectacle that I couldn’t do it.  You know what?  I’m glad I didn’t turn it off because hidden in the middle of one of the commercial breaks was a reason to go on living. 

What was this reason? 

Oh just a little promo video for the best show ever– The Office.  Did anyone else catch that?  Oh how I love my Jim and Dwight and their tumultuous relationship.    

Knowing that there are new episodes of The Office coming makes the end of summer just a little bit easier to bear.

    I can’t wait for The Office to come back!

    BTW it still seems really strange to me that kids are already going back to school. When I was a kid it always started the day after Labor Day, and ended the second Friday of June. And now it starts at the beginning of August and ends in May??? Just seems wrong somehow.

    Here in the SW though it stays hot until at least mid September.

    I’ll be so happy when the Office comes back on. Grey’s Anatomy too even though it is so ridiculous now.

    I did catch the Office promo. I also thought of you on that cell phone commercial with the girl who loves Phelps and had these gigantic blown pictures of him all through her house and her missed cell phone self, saying she missed her call that Phelps was in her small town signing autographs.

    I fell ya with the summer leaving and fall stepping up. I kind of enjoy it though. Love the change of seasons and come Sept. all my shows start back up. I miss my Jack Bauer !!

    I saw those Office spots, too! I can’t WAIT for it, it looks so funny. Loved the opening ceremony, even if FUGLY Michael Phelps (hehe, sorry) wasn’t there.

    I cant wait for all the fall shows to start up! Sorry to say I am ready for summer to be over. I am over being hot in my house and sucky suck tv. Although I am enjoying some sexy male swimming as i type! Have you seen that funny comercial with the Michael Phelps obsessed fan? Pretty darn funny!!

    It’s supposed to be 99 degrees here tomorrow. You’re welcome to trade houses with us. My deodorant lasts until about 10:00 in the morning…I’d willingly kick summer to the curb at this point. It stinks. Or is that me?

    I love fall. I’m so tired of being hot that I just can’t wait for the days of fall. Of course, it doesn’t cool down around here till late October.

    I don’t watch the Office, but I can’t wait for my shows to come back

    And did anyone else notice how messed up the national anthem was during Phelps ceremony? What’s up with that?

    OMG! I LOVE michael phelps!!! i was just going online to try and figure out when he swims next , dissapointed to find out he was resting. yes, what the heck does that mean, there’s no RESTING AT THE OLYMPICS!!!

    Oh, the opening was AMAZING, wasn’t it? It was a blast to watch how they played with the lights! But yay Phelpsy!! He was amazing and won the gold!

    So weird that you bring up Phil’s song “In the Air Tonight” b/c I just finally heard the “urban legend” related to this song while I was on vaca a couple of weeks ago. Totally freaky. Anyway, briefly, the “urban legend” is that Phil was friends with a guy who went to college and became friends with this other guy. Well, all of the guys to the beach together and one guy gets pulled into an undertoe and Phil’s friend sees this and goes out to help him. He pulls him out from the undertoe and saves him, but then he gets sucked into the undertoe. The guy who originally got sucked into the undertoe is now on the beach and sees the friend in the undertoe now and watches him die - does nothing to save him after the friend just saved him. Phil was on the boardwalk trying to get back to the beach and is watching all of this go down. So….. a few years later when Phil “writes” this song he invites that “friend” to his concert, sits him in the front row and then “dedicates” the song to this guy while shining a spotlight on him so everyone can see this guy and listen to the words of this song:

    Anyway…… this is an “urban legend” and the story goes something like that (may have mixed up a few of the minute details). Phil has denied it in many interviews, but it’s still interesting to me. I don’t know what the real meaning of the song so I’m going to research it and see if I find out
