Looking Fine by 2009: Week 1

I wanted to get this post up last night but I was too busy stuffing my face at a friend’s house.  Yes, you heard me right.

I did so great all week, but let myself get too hungry yesterday.  You know how the experts always say never to let yourself get too hungry.  Well, they are so right.   By the time we got to the party I was absolutely starving and I ate everything in sight.  I did not listen to my body tell me when I was full and ended up so stuffed that I felt sick to my stomach.

When I got on the scale this morning I expected the number to be the same as it was last week.  I figured any weight I lost would have been found again in the cheeseburger, chips and chocolate cake i ate last night.

Surprisingly, I still managed to lose 5 pounds!!!  Wooohooo!!

Obviously that is more than the recommended amount to lose in a week, but I think the first week is often the most because of “water weight”.  I won’t be expecting to see that much each week, but it was a nice motivation to keep going with the diet.

I did well with my eating, but pretty much ignored the other goals (exercising, sleep, water).  This week I need to make more of an effort to fit these other things in.  Not only will it help me with my weight loss goals, but I just know that I will feel so much better.

How did everyone else do with their goals?  Have you taken your before picture and done your initial measurements?   I’m going to have to retake my pic because my 4 month old laptop hard drive crashed a few days after loading the picture.  Coincidence?  I think not.  The picture must have been just too horrifying for the laptop to take any longer so it gave up on living.

I’ve also decided to put up the Mister Linky.  If you have a blog and want to write your own post, we will have an easy way to track who is participating weekly and cheer each other on.  I think weekly check-ins will help with the accountability. Plus, I want to be able to add to that list of participating bloggers in my sidebar.

Lastly, each week I thought I’d do a discussion question to get us brainstorming ways to make weight loss easy and more fun.  This week, I’m going to ask you all about your exercise habits.

What is your favorite type of exercise?  How often do you workout?  How do you find the time and motivation to keep up with it?

Feel free to answer in the comments or put it in your own blog post.

Right now isn’t the best time for me to be losing weight. I will, however, be here cheering you on! Good luck and congrats on losing 5 pounds!

Favorite exercise? Yeah I haven’t found that yet – but I’ll let you know when I do find one! This morning we jump roped for a few minutes – yeah I’m pretty terrible and jump roping, I’ll tell you that.

I work out about once or twice a month in a fit of rage at how fat I’m getting. Then lose my motivation until another fit of rage…

But I’m trying to do better.

I’m up to 145 pounds. I expect to lose 30 pounds in one day on September 27th. It’s funny though, with both Max and Jessamine I gained 45 pounds total, with this one I’ve already gained 45 pounds with a month still to go. Jessamine was a real fatty. So either this one will be huge, or early, or there’s an extra baby in there?

I’m so jealous! I lost a little over a pound this week by watching my intake (and I exercised a LITTLE bit more, not much). The kids start school this week, so I hope to get a bit more of a workout in…we’ll see. We had a party at our house Friday night (where I drank nearly 1400 calories), and went to a party Saturday evening that was catered with ribs, bbq, beans, cole slaw, sausage, etc, etc. I did much better than I would have done a month or 2 ago, but I still didn’t stick to my plan. I like having to ‘check-in’ with you and I look forward to seeing OUR progress!!

    Way to go Jen.

Maybe you stumbled upon a new diet or something. maybe eating cheeseburgers and chocolate cake boosts the metabolism and that is the explanation for the 5th pound loss. No?? We can dream right.

I am gonna be joining in more hardcore than I though. I put some older clothes on and came to the sad realisation that I have the abs of a lady in her second trimester and I am not even pregnant.

I ordered myself exercise equipment and am feeling better already.

For me group classes work the best. And group classes with thinner and prettier people than me. This way I am trying to keep up with them and my pride gets in the way. I work less when I am the most in shape person in the room — so if you can find some kind of group class (a mix of cardio and weights is a great find! Also if you get tired it is embarrassing to leave early — unlike any exercise where you are in control. So for me it’s all about humiliating myself into exercise. I am definitely not a natural exerciser. I didn’t do sports or athletic activities as a kid so I really have to push myself. I have diabetes that runs in my family so that helps keep me motivated.

Coming from someone who has LOST (and gained) weight many times, the first couple weeks you can lose it quicker than 1-2 pounds a week especially if it’s a big change from your old routines. It will settle down. I’m excited for your progress this week! With all the end of summer activities I’ve been sliding a lot this month — but September is a new month!!

I’m going to end up two weeks behind ’cause we’re not going to be able to start our program until next week. Still, I think it’ll be great fun. Er, or hard work. One or the other.

When I exercise, I usually hit the treadmill for a minimum of 30 mins to a maximum of 60 minutes. Occasionally, I use the stationary bike. But sometimes work and laziness get in the way of going to the gym. i need to motivate myself some more.

Oh I am so late on getting in on the action today! So sorry. It is a long weekend here in Canadaland and I have had such a busy day and am feeling a little brain dead. However this week I did manage to lose one pound. I know it’s not much but it is one pound less to go! Holy good job on the 5 pounds miss skinny pants!! I managed to exercise 4 times this week but still ate way too much and did not make good choices on what I ate. This week my focus will be on what and how much I eat and try and maintain the exercise. I bought a cheap cardio dvd today and will try it out tomorrow!!

    My favorite kind of exercise …channel surfing…ba dum dum…yeah i’m a geek.

Good luck to everyone this week!!

Just getting back in the swing w/the diet, but I am a yo-yo exerciser as well! Lately, I’ve been going to a local Zumba class and it is FUN! I also like Leslie Sansone’s Walk Away the Pounds DVDs a lot too.

Yay for you and your 5 pound loss!

    Jumping on the bandwagon late!

on exercise: I love love love to walk. Every night the whole family walks to the playground to let our little ones play and get tuckered out. I recently read an article about exercising at the playground, and I’m going to incorporate that.

Thank god I ran today…4 miles. Makes up for my having just shoved some Tortillas in my big fat face.
I did most excellent last week until Thursday, when I ate pizza. No worries. Back to the game.
Congrats on your 5 lbs lady. Rock on with your awesome self.

I started watching what I ate this week. I need to get exercise in. It seems hard to find the time. My hubby and I take walks, or do exercise “on demand.” I like doing the belly dancing routine. I decided if I am going to exercise, it has to be fun, or I just won’t do it. I do have a pic on my computer at home, I hope to heaven that NOBODY ever finds it :) But it’s a good starting point. I have a hard time getting out of my 5 lb range, I go up and down over and over within the same 5 lbs. I have found some really great motivation though, so I think I will make it this time. :)

I’m totally LATE in joining but I’m here! And I’m glad for the company. The last couple days I’ve been watching what I eat, which is a lot of work but really makes you think through each food choice. And tonight I start the exercise! Yaahhooooo! =0)
