Moment of Truth

I was at Target the other day perusing the toy aisles for a birthday present for my daughter when I happened to see the following game:

This game is based on the ‘hit’ Fox Television show “Moment of Truth”.

Of course, my curiosity got the best of me so I proceeded to pick it up and read the package.  The game is played similar to the show.  Here are the highlights:

  • It’s the outrageous party game that puts you in the hot seat to test how much you’re willing to reveal about yourself
  • Included are 100 questions cards–some fun, some provocative and some downright shocking
  • Be careful how you answer the questions on the cards–if your friends suspect that you are hiding something, they may force you to take the Lie Detector test
  • The biometric lie detector measures your body temperature and stress level; to win, score the most points by answering questions honestly, or outsmarting your friends with the Lie Detector

Why in the world would anyone want to play this game?  It has DISASTER (or divorce) written all over it.  Can you imagine all the fights that would come out of playing this game at a couples game night?

For example:

Question:  Have you ever tried to look for an old boyfriend/girlfriend on myspace or Facebook?

Me:  Ugh, um, well, I don’t think so?

Lie Detector:  Lights blaring! Sirens Buzzing!

Me: Crap

What good could possibly come out of playing this game?

Thanks, but no thanks.

I won’t even watch the show.  I like awkward as much as the next person.  I just like funny awkward (i.e. The Office), not ”let’s try to get these people to divorce court” kind of awkward.

This brings me to my concern about tonight’s vice-presidential debate.  Part of me is looking forward to it and thinks that every American should be paying attention to what these two individuals have to say.

In my opinion, this is one of the most influential VP debates in history.  Let’s face it, both presidential candidates have a real potential for actually not fulfilling their entire term.

I’m not trying to be dramatic or controversial but let’s look at the facts.  McCain is 72 years old.  I’m not saying he is ancient, but you can’t deny that there is a distinct possibility that the stress of winning the presidency may be too much for him, making Palin the actual president.

Then there is Obama.  He is hated and feared by many extremists for the color of his skin.  We all know what crazy white people are capable of (lest we forget Hitler, or more recently, Timothy McVeigh).  For example, look at this ridiculous sign :

Am I supposed to now believe that Obama is a cotton/ polyester blend or some other type of finely woven fiber.  I’m just confused.  If you are going to go through all the trouble (I’m sure this masterpiece took hours) of making a political statement, I suggest you at least use a dictionary.  Idiot!

Back to the debate, I will be watching.  I’m just a little worried how it will turn out.  Both VP candidates have had their share of mishaps in the media lately and I’m hoping that there isn’t anything too cringe-worthy tonight.

As much as I really dislike that show “Moment of Truth”, I sort of wish that in addition to the debates the candidates (all 4 of them) would have to go on the show.  Don’t you think that would be an outstanding idea?  I’d love to see how they’d do in the hot seat.  Not only would we get to hear where they all stand on the issues, but it would be funny to see who sets off the lie detector test.  I think someone should pitch this idea to the networks.

Better yet, how about a political Big Brother or Survivor type show.  Put them all in a house or on an island somewhere and make them do challenges such as Foreign Policy Relay or Solve the Financial Crisis or Eat Weird Things game.  I’m sure that Mark Burnett could think of plenty of good challenges.

This probably would have been better before the primary election so there would be more candidates/contestants.  Maybe I’ll wait until 2012 to pitch my ideas.

I have to agree – having the candidates on that tv show might be the best use that show has seen yet. Forget ending a marriage, let’s end the political BS!

Great suggestion! It’s so difficult to figure all these politicians out. We deserve to know the ugly truth! This has been one of the most interesting and most frustrating elections ever. This debate is either going to be really informative or a complete train wreck. I feel like I need to go pop some popcorn.

Loving the sign. Isn’t it comforting to know we live in society packed full of such genius?

I totally think politicians should have lie detectors attached. Terrific idea honey.
