Movie Review: Sex and the City
I thought that since I was hosting a Movie Madness carnival on my site that it was my duty to go and see the much anticipated movie Sex and the City. I told my husband that it was research for the MMC (not Mickey Mouse Club, but Movie Madness Carnival). At this point he rolled his eyes because that is what he always does when I say the words Blogging Carnival. He just doesn’t get it.
Alright, back to SATC.
Love. Forgiveness. Friendship. Fashion. These were the overriding themes of the movie. It is really hard to write a review because pretty much anything more I would say about it would contain spoilers. I don’t want to be the jerk that does that.
It was enjoyable, although I have to admit that it ran a tad bit too long. The addition of Jennifer Hudson (Idol-season 3) wasn’t necessary and I think if you cut out all her scenes (Sorry, Jen-I have nothing against you and think you did a fine job in your role but I didn’t see the necessity of your character) it would have made for a better movie. I thought the first hour was phenomenal and the last 10 minutes were also great, but it lost me a little somewhere in the middle.
With that said, the movie really was a lot of fun. Let’s start with the main character. No, not Carrie.
The Fashion.

Oh, how I wish that I had the money personal stylists fashion sense that these girls have. Instead I sit here in a t-shirt, capris and flip flops feeling oh so very frumpy.
Samantha and Charlotte stole the show with pretty much every scene they were in. There is a scene with Charlotte and Big toward the end of the movie that was worth the entire cost of admission. She rocks!! Miranda annoyed me, as usual, but I did like her hair.
And Carrie. Oh, I don’t even know what to say about her. I guess I was just a little distracted the whole time by SJP’s bony arms. There is one scene in the movie (I hope this isn’t giving anything away. I don’t think it is.) where the girls give Samantha a hard time for gaining weight. Yes, she is a lot fuller, but I couldn’t help but think the whole time–why aren’t you addressing Carrie being too thin? I don’t know. It just kind of annoyed me.
My rating for this movie would be 4/5 stars. Not the best movie I’ve ever seen, but it was definitely worth the watch. If you are a huge SATC fan, I’d probably see it in theaters, but otherwise I’d wait until it comes out on dvd.
Now I can cross this movie off my list of movies to see in 2008. However, I now have a new one to add. They showed a preview at the beginning for a movie I hadn’t yet heard of. It was for Nights in Rodanthe. This is yet another adaptation for a Nicholas Sparks novel. I think it looks pretty good:
I’m planning to put the post for the movie carnival up tonight before I go to bed. Don’t forget to come back and link up (if I can get this Mister Linky thing to show up on my site–grrr). Remember it doesn’t have to be a movie as recent as SATC. It actually doesn’t have to be a review at all. The post just needs to have something to do with the theme of the movies. I can’t wait to read everyone’s posts! Get your popcorn ready!!
Speaking of popcorn, don’t forget to enter my giveaway! The deadline to leave a comment is June 4th at 11pm (EST).

Got something to say?

The big screen definitely didn’t do SJPP any favors. We both thought Samantha looked the best of all of them. And what about Murphy Brown? Daaayuuumn!!!

I agree with you that the movie got long. SJP was too skinny, I just don’t understand that. And when they were all over Samantha, that was a bummer too, I’d be pretty pleased to look like that. I would cover up with a shirt however…. ; ) Thanks for the trailor on Nights, we missed the previews!

I have never seen any of the Sex in the City shows. I have seen a lot of stuff for the movie. Your review makes me want to rent it when it comes out. On another review they said it was good too.
Your carnival is fun this is my first one. I’m working on checking out everyone’s post and having fun.

*snicker*
Miranda is actually the only character I like…I kinda enjoyed the series, but I wouldn’t go see the movie. It sounds like it is way too long. Maybe I’ll rent it when it comes out on DVD…
