Raindrops on Roses
We’ve been having severe thunderstorms all evening. Of course they miraculously disappeared for about an hour, just in time for the ice cream to make his nightly rounds. Yes, he comes down our street EVERY FREAKING NIGHT!
Anyway, the storm gods (who obviously hate me) decided to start their rumbling again right around the time that I was trying to get the kids settled down for the night. Well, after a few loud crashes, flashes and booms my daughter came running out of her room crying.
I decided to use this moment to re-enact a scene from one of my favorite movies ever–The Sound of Music.
I took her back to her room and starting singing “My Favorite Things” .
I either helped her forget her fears with this wonderful song (that I massacred) or my horrendous singing voice frightened her more than the storm. At any rate, the song worked and I got to be Fraulein Maria for the night. Everyone’s a winner! Hooray!
In case you’ve never watched The Sound of Music (Seriously, is there anyone out there who hasn’t seen this masterpiece?), here is the clip:

Got something to say?

i sing that to Gen when she is scared in big storms! Oh Maria… She is ingrained into the better parts of so many of us!
It is one of my all time favorites!
Hey! No fair! Ya’ll still have ice cream trucks! We NEED ice cream trucks here in the south! It’s already in the upper 90’s here - you don’t even really have summer!
YES! Anyone who will reenact a scene from The Sound of Music is a friend of mine. Have a great day!!
So um… now you know what song we’ll all have stuck in our heads ALL day! LOL @ You and your ability to massacre a song. Tee hee!
Wanna know a secret? My husbands favorite movie is Sound Of Music. I was a little worried when he told me this when we were dating. Then I realized he was the one for me when he sang a long and the fact that we also watched Princess Bride in the same night. No he is not gay. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
More Sound Of Music facts from my life. (and I know you care)
1- We went to this old opera house turned theater in Vancouver and we watched SOM on the big screen with the song captions and a bouncy ball to follow along with.
2- We made a CD of our favorite music to give to our guests at our wedding…guess what song was the last track? The Lonely Goatherd..hahaha we are too cool for school!
3- When I was 8 I tried out for a part in SOM at our locol theater. I didn’t get the part (they didn’t know talent when they saw it, obviously). My mom however became Baroness Elsa in the play. She still talks about this and sometimes makes us watch the old 1980’s video recording of her. I am not bitter.
Was that too much information?? Is it just me who is bored and has nothing better to do than harass new friends???
