Who Says You Can’t Buy Love
You are probably here because you want free stuff. If not, then what’s wrong with you? Everyone wants free stuff.
This is my first time bribing people to comment on my blog having a Bloggy Giveaway so I’m keeping it real simple. I had thoughts of putting together a movie gift basket with popcorn and candy, but that just sounded like a lot of work and I don’t like work. It would also probably entail waiting in line at the post office and I don’t like lines.
So the slacker in me came up with a much easier option - $20 Amazon Gift Card.
The theme of my giveaway is romantic movies. I love them and although I feel like I’ve probably seen them all, I’m sure there may be one that I may have missed. Here are a few of my favorites:
- The Notebook
- Titanic
- Sleepless in Seattle
- Serendipity
- Pride and Predjudice (the Colin Firth/BBC version)
I’m sure there are plenty of others that you could add to this list. I can already hear you rattling them off now. Well, sloooowww down cowpoke. Let me tell you the rules of this contest first:
1. In the comment section, post your favorite romantic movie. It can be drama or comedy. Basically as long as the main plot is love, you’re good to go.
2. Recommendations of movies containing Hobbits or Wookiees are not permitted. Sorry, but I don’t particularly like these types of creatures and you will be disqualified if you enter anything remotely related to this genre.
3. Men and women can enter as I know there are a lot of guys out there who love chick flicks but just don’t want to admit it.
4. Winners may spend their $20 Amazon gift card on anything they want except diapers. Diapers are not a permitted choice of prize. (Actually you can spend it on anything you want because there is no way I can check this, but it would make me feel a lot better if I knew you were spending it on something fun for yourself and not the kids.)
5. You may only enter one time. Please make sure to leave a valid email address so that I can get in touch with you. I will choose a winner (via random draw) on Friday evening at 11pm EST. Contest limited to residents of the US only.
Good luck! Thanks to Bloggy Giveaways for hosting the Bloggy Giveaways Quarterly Carnival!

Let’s see… I loved the Anne Movies, partly for the clothes, I must admit, but also because of the story of love woven through them. Not original or creative, but there it is.

Oh, I truly love the Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejuidice. It makes my heart flutter. Do you know that feeling, that fast heart beat and then you have to take a deep breath…aaahhhh. I just love a good historical love story with all the propriety (sp?) and manly men.
[Reply]
My fave is P & P with Colin Firth. Actually I interviewed him a few years back (in 2006) and he is tall and ruggedly wonderful. Quite like Mr. Darcy in fact… hmmm…
But since you mentioned P & P, I had to think of something… I truly love Moulin Rouge and Romeo + Juliet. Also, I saw Penelope this evening and thought it was charming… I am a big James MacAvoy fan and think anything he is in (aside from the Last King of Scotland) is romantic…

First – I have to correct you. The Colin Firth version of Pride and Prejudice belonged to A&E – not BBC. The BBC version was rather droll.
My favorites – “When Harry met Sally” AND “North and South”. (if you liked P&P – you have to watch this – it is from A&E in 2004 starring Richard Armitage as John Thornton – set in 1800’s North England in the cotton mill towns.)

Okay, this may seem weird, but there is a love story in…………Top Gun. That’s my favorite movie of all time.

Ingrid Bergman is his alcoholic wife. . Cotton and Bergman are estranged. Cotton is afraid that Bergman is losing her mind. He bribes a visiting member of the Irish gentry to keep her company. The young man falls in love with Bergman. But slowly the story of their relationship comes out. Bergman had been a member of the Irish gentry. She eloped with her stable boy, Joseph Cotton. It is a mystery and a romance. I loved it.

The Notebook is my all time fav. Hubby and I watched it together and we both cried! And neither of us get emotional over movies. For some reason, it hit us both hard.
I’ll always remember us snuggling on the couch with tears streaming down our faces feeling ridiculous, but moved.
Great giveaway. Thanks.

Well, mine would be Titanic. I know it is based on an actual event, but the movie version is a love story.

[Reply]
My favorite movie is “Love comes softly”. It’s based on a Christian book by Janet Oke http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0345591/ It’s a very good movie, if you haven’t seen it, I’d recommend it.
From my understanding, there are a few movies in that series that are out (or are coming out). Our ladies Bible study had a movie night for the “Love comes softly” and are planning one for one of the other ones that are out.

I was going to say Pride and Prejudice. I love Mr. Darcy/Colin Firth. Not as much as I love my husband, but a close second. But instead I’ll say, “Becoming Jane”. I really liked this movie and thought the love story was interesting and poignant. Thanks for the giveaway. I won’t buy diapers. (Tempting, though.)

Casablanca. They just don’t make them like that anymore.
[Reply]
The Colin Firth/BBC version of Pride and Prejudice is simply the best! (I love when he looks at her from across the room…and then she looks up, and they just stare at each other for a minute…ahhhh!) Other than that, I’ve got too many to choose from, but if you’re looking for one you’ve never seen I would suggest Immortal Beloved. I cry at the end of it every. single. time. But that’s just my opinion.

This isn’t very original, but DH’s and my favorite love story is The Notebook. If I won the amazon.com gift card, I would buy Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin and maybe one of Peter Walsh’s books (I’d have to pay the difference to get two, but it would be worth it). I guess my idea of fun reading isn’t the norm.

But I do have to say that I love just about every single Sandra Bullock movie. The princess bride is one of my favorite romantic movies. When I watched it with my husband he asked if women really liked the mush that Wesley said. I said yes. That night he told me I was the sun his solar system revolved around. I guess that’s why we’ve been married 21 years. It does have ROUSes Rodents of unusual size and sword fighting, so even my son liked the movie.

[Reply]
Chocolat, Runaway Bride, Titanic, You’ve Got Mail, The Princess Bride… I could go on, but I’ll refrain for fear of Han Solo or Legolas popping up in my post somewhere (does that hit a tad to close to Wookies and Hobbits? sorry =P) just kidding, I really do love Amazon so I hope you don’t disqualify me =) darn it you are? dang, I knew my sense of humor would do me in one day…

Heh….even though my “web” name is Princess Leia and I love those movies (hobbits too), there’s no way I would ever actually mean that.
One of my many “chick flik” favorites is “Notting Hill.” I’m not even sure why I love it like I do, but it’s just so sweet somehow. Plus I’m a sucker for Hugh Grant.
[Reply]
I kinda hate to admit it, but Dirty Dancing is my all time favorite romantic movie. “Nobody puts Baby in the corner”…

My favorite romantic comedy would have to be “There’s Something About Mary” . That movie is a classic! An added bonus is that it has a romantic theme (if you count a stalker as romantic?) but is funny enough that guys will tolerate it.
Just thinking of this movie reminded me I better go put on some more hair gel!
[Reply]
It’s really not that great of a movie, but for some reason I just can’t pass up watching it…Sweet Home Alabama with Reese Witherspoon. I cry each time they kiss on the beach.

I also liked “Sleepless in Seattle” very much—- one of my absolute faves is an old black and white film called “My Man Godfrey”. It stars Carole Lombard and William Powell. I like it cuz it makes me laugh—and doesn’t have a lot of mushy stuff!

[Reply]
I love “The Scarlet Pimpernel”–it’s old and cheesy but I adore it!!!
[Reply]
I love Kate and Leapold! No Hobbits or Wookies there, but have to mention that it cracks me up that the same guy who played Leapold also played Wolverine in X-men (if you are ever forced to watch X-men, as it sound like you probably wouldn’t go to such a movie under normal cercumstances, if you’ve watched Kate and Leapold you can amuse yourself by picturing the tough guy with the claws talking with a refined English accent about the merits of an excellent country churned butter! I am impressed that Hugh Jackman can play two such opposite roles so well).
[Reply]
The Notebook is #1. I also love Just Like Heaven. And I hope when Twilight becomes a movie in December, it does the book justice.
[Reply]
My favorite is probably Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. Does that one count? It basically has this couple that has their memories of each other erased, but yet found each other again. That’s pretty sweet.\
Open Hearts is really good too (check it out on netflix). It’s one of my all time favorites.
haha, someone said while you were sleeping and my favorite part in that movie was when the guy was like do i like jello?
