Works For Me Wednesday: Best Teacher Gift
Before becoming a stay at home mom, I was a teacher. At the end of each school year, many of the students would give me a gift. I was always appreciative of anything I received, but do you want to know what I loved the best?
The best gift of all was when a student would hand me a card with a message that they wrote all by themselves. In it, they would tell me why they enjoyed being in my class and maybe mention a favorite activity we did.
This “almost free” gift meant more to me than any of the coffee mugs or shower gels that I ever received. There isn’t anything wrong with these items, but they get lost with all the others.
Save your money and have your child write a note to their teacher. Trust me, this is one gift that will be very much appreciated!

P. S. If you are coming over from WFMW and haven’t read this post, stop by and read it. I’m trying to get the opinions of other bloggers on a “situation”. Please have a look and let me know what you think.

Got something to say?

Ha! I’m a teacher, and before I clicked over here from Rocks in My Dryer, I thought to myself, “The best gift I can imagine getting is a simple thank you from a kiddo (handwritten, of course). So, a big “Amen, sister!”

I’m a former teacher, and I tell people the same thing! I actually kept the notes students and/or parents wrote to me, but I don’t think I have any of the other gifts they gave me. Words of praise, gratitude, and encouragement truly are the best gifts any teacher can receive, and they cost nothing more than the time it takes to write them.

Aw, I’ve heard many teachers say the same thing! And you are right-hearing Thank You from the child has to be wonderful.

My husband is a teacher and he saves all the handwritten notes. The mugs? Goodwill. I can only have so many “World’s Best Teacher” mugs in my kitchen!

I completely agree, as a former teacher!
Though all gifts are appreciated very much, one can only have so many apple-themed decorations and teacher mugs.
Some of the best gifts I got were hand-picked flowers, notes and drawings from the students and appreciative parents, and photo scrapbooks.

This is a GREAT idea!!! Thanks for sharing…I appreciate SO much my son’s teachers and know how much hard work they pour into each child but where we are at financially, giving a gift to the teacher, bus driver, etc etc…it is just too much for us. Whew, this post was a relief…think I’ll have my son do this for tomorrow…LAST DAY OF SCHOOL!!!
Have a great one!

LOVE this post - I was just having this conversation with my kids who’s last day of school is tomorrow.
I’m going to find that box of handmade greeting cards and have them pick one!

I am so glad to hear that. I always have my kids make a card for their teacher thanking them for being such a good teacher. Then I write a thank you note from my husband and myself and I include some cookies or brownies. I always feel a little bit cheap, though, so I’m glad to hear that the notes are a good idea.

Ironically I was just talking with my son this morning about figuring a gift out for his teacher and I have never logged on your site before. I think I figured out what to do! Thanks for thinking of posting this for me!

This former teacher totally agrees with you! I think I still have these notes saved in a big bin somewhere. I am sure I tossed out the candles and other “things” that people paid for.
Great post!

I think it really works because I usually make my teachers cards and they said they love it. Some of them even display my handmade cards. To me, my teachers are the one that make me happy everyday when I see them.
