Friday Eye Candy: Memory Lane Part 1

A few months ago, Marie suggested that I do a “Where Are They Now” eye candy.  I hemmed and hauled over who I should include on the list and then I got sidetracked and forgot all about it.

Cristina’s question on my 300th Post Party reminded me about this theme.  She asked:

Before Ryan Gosling, who were your celebrity crushes?

As soon as I saw this question, I knew that I had to answer it.  Hopefully, you will enjoy this walk down memory lane as much as I did…

We get started way back in 1980.  I was around five or six years old and my heart belonged to Jack Tripper (John Ritter).

Then:

I was so obsessed with him that I wrote him a fan letter professing my love.  My mom said that she mailed it but I don’t think she did because I never got a response.

Now:

Sadly, John Ritter passed away in 2003 of an undiagnosed, fatal heart condition.

Next, we have Alex P. Keaton (Michael J. Fox).  I tuned into Family Ties every week and Back to the Future was one of my absolute favorite movies growing up.  He was just so darn cute!

Then:

Now:

He is still doing some acting, but spends most of his time raising awareness and funds for Parkinson’s disease.  He has been fighting a battle against this debilitating disease since being diagnosed in 1991.

Note:  He was my first Canadian crush (definitely not the last).

Jason Bateman stole my heart in Silver Spoons as Ricky’s sneaky best friend, Derek.  However, the show that I remember and loved him the most in was a short-lived sitcom called “It’s Your Move”.  He was absolutely HILARIOUS in this show.  Not many people remember it because I think it was canceled after only one season, but I really enjoyed it.

Then:

Now:

I’m so glad that he is still acting.  He cracks me up in pretty much any role I’ve seen him in recently.  And obviously he is still adorable.  I really want to get all the season’s of Arrested Development on dvd.  I’ve seen bits and pieces but I think it is a show you have to watch from the beginning to get to know the quirky characters to fully appreciate.

Next up came my infatuation with David Addison (Bruce Willis).

Then:

Although I LOVED him in Moonlighting and Blind Date was one of my favorite movies growing up,  I have to say that I became obsessed with him when he put out this song:

I had this video saved on VHS and would watch it over and over and OVER again.  Seeing it again now, just cracks me up.

Now:

He is still pretty sexy today and I think a big part of it is the way he handled his divorce with Demi Moore and the whole Ashton Kutcher thing. Very classy!

To be continued….

I’m making this a two-parter.  The rest of the guys will be revealed next week.

Aloha Friday:

-Who were your celebrity crushes growing up?

-Any guesses as to the remaining guys on my list?

-Who else would you like to see on a future “Where are they now” eye candy post?

Thursday Thirteen: 13 Answers

Yesterday, I invited you to my 300th Post Party and asked you to participate in a game of Loaded Questions. If you haven’t already, go over and leave me a question.  I’m giving a $10 Panera gift card to one lucky commenter who plays along.  It has been fun reading all your questions.

Today, on my actual 300th post, I’m here to give you some answers.

1.  Carrie asked:

I’m new to your blog, so have lots of questions! First, what inspired you to start blogging? And how did you pick your blog name?

Well, I was inspired to start blogging for my travel business because I read that blogging is a great tool for  getting the word out and attracting new clients.  I started a blog about family travel and Disney, but I found myself not keeping up with it.

In the meantime I was constantly sending my friends pictures and news tidbits of Ryan Gosling.  I started to get the idea (after several months of spamming them) that they weren’t as interested as I was in whether or not Ryan had shaved his beard or what color sweater he was wearing last Tuesday and how it really brought out his gorgeous eyes.  Therefore, I decided I need a new outlet.

I toyed around with the idea of doing a full blog about Gosling but knew that my track record for blogging about one topic wasn’t very good.  So, I decided I wanted a place to talk about whatever happened to catch my interest at the time.

I had lots of ideas for names but most were taken already.  I really don’t know how I settled on Daily Mish Mash.  I just liked the way it sounded, that it didn’t pigeon-hole me into one topic and it wasn’t taken.

2.   Jen asked:

How has your “diet” been going since 2009? I’m assuming you are at least still thinking about it occasionally? Any progress?

Of course, I’m thinking about my diet.  Sadly, I’m always thinking about my diet.  I’m “blessed” with a family history of obesity so if I don’t watch what I eat I will easily put on weight.

I’m back to my heaviest weight again (according to the daily torture of the Wii Fit body test).  I’m hoping that by working out and checking in every day (on the Wii), I will be motivated to start cutting back on the calories a bit more.

I’m going to try to cut out all diet sodas again.  The more I read, the more I am convinced that it is the worst thing for your metabolism.  The only problem is trying to figure out what to replace it with.  I stink at drinking water (I’ve tried and tried but can’t seem to make it a habit) so if anyone has any suggestions on low-calorie, non-aspartame beverage options (please don’t say water, I beg of you), send them my way.

3.  Jean (no blog) asked:

New to your blog… My question is how do you keep your blogging life separate from your real life, so that the two never meet? I have been thinking about starting a blog, but don’t know that I want everyone to know that it exists…

This is an interesting question.  I have only told my husband, 3 friends, my parents and brother about this blog.  I have fun writing it but I think it would put too much pressure on me to know that everyone I know was reading it.

Here are my suggestions for keeping your blog private:

-Tell no one about it!  I mean NO ONE!!

-Get a new email address (gmail or yahoo) that you use for your blog.

-Don’t post your real name or pictures of yourself/ family.

I think that about covers it.  It is very unlikely that someone will just stumble upon your blog if you don’t tell them about it.

4.  Julie (no blog) asked:

What is one item in your kitchen you could NOT live without?

Aside from major appliances like the stove, dishwasher and microwave, I really can’t think of anything that I truly couldn’t live without.  I guess I would have to say my 13×9 baking dish.  I feel like I use that constantly.

5.  Pamela (no blog) asked:

His blinds are open, would you watch your HOT neighbor?

I loved this question!  And the answer is OF COURSE, but only if I knew I wouldn’t get caught.

6.  Nina (no blog) asked:

Have you read Twilight??????? If not you should! It is such a good series that I recommend it to everyone.

Clearly, Nina is new to my blog.  Of course, I’ve read Twilight.  I loved it!  I also recommend it to everyone I know.  All my Twilight related posts can be found here.

7.  Tiffany and Kristy (no blog) both asked:

Hi! I’m new here…so what’s with the countdown on your sidebar??

It is the countdown for the next movie in the Twilight saga–New Moon.

Obviously, I take for granted that not everyone is as Twi-obsessed as I am and I didn’t realize that the countdown might be a little confusing.   I added a little note to the top.  Thank you for bringing this to my attention, Tiffany and Kristy.

8.  Sage asked:

I’ve got a pretty simple question – if you could be one fruit, what would you be and why?

I would be a pineapple.  They are tough on the outside, but very sweet on the inside.  Plus, I would get to live in Hawaii.

9.  Heather (no blog) asked:

Do you have a scheduled “blog time” or do you fit it in your schedule whenever??

I don’t have any set schedule for blogging.  I usually just blog when I see something or experience something that I just have to talk about.  I do most of my posts at night because I am definitely more of a night person.

10.  Angie asked:

My question is….Who would you rather have for a best friend, David Hasselhoff or Martha Stewart? And Why? heeheeeee!

Wow!  That’s a tough one.  Martha might be a good choice because then maybe she could come over and help me organize my house.  Then again,  I’m really not sure that we would get along very well because we are total opposites and come to think of it, she seems a bit mean.   “The Hoff” seems like a fun guy but a little too full of himself.  Plus, I’m not sure I’d be able to keep up with his drunk, burger eating exploits:

If I had to pick, I would probably say Martha.

11.  Tara (no blog) asked:

What would your perfect date be…including the person!

That is an easy one.  I already blogged it a few months back.  The short answer is Ryan Gosling, dinner and dancing on a rooftop in NYC.  Go here for the long answer.

12.  Heather asked:

What is the best Disney-insider tip that you can share with me? Something that I’d never have known about but that is SO worth knowing.

I think my favorite tip is about the Fastpasses.  Most people think that you have to come back to the ride at the time that is printed on the ticket, but it is a little known fact that most cast members will accept expired Fastpasses for later that day.  Therefore, you can collect a few and use them later that day.  They do have to be used on the same day though.

13.  And finally, Natalie asked:

Hmm…how about something really random…if you were a song, what song would you be?

That is pretty random, Natalie.  The first song that came to mind is that “I’m a Bitch” song by Meredith Brooks.  I can totally relate to the lyrics, but I really don’t like that song.  If I had to pick a song that I would want to be it would be this one because it is my all-time favorite and always cheers me up when I’m in a bad mood.

Your turn:  Pick your favorite question above and leave me your answer in the comments.

300th Post Party!!

This contest has ended.  Comments are now closed to new entries.  Thanks to all who participated.  I’ll announce the winner tomorrow.

This is my 299th post.  That means I’m only one post away from 300!!

Are you excited?  I’m excited.   It really is just a number, but to me it means that I actually stuck to something for an extended period of time and I typically don’t do that very often so I think it is cause for some sort of celebration.

I thought it might be fun to have a little party.  Everyone loves a party!

First we need some decorations.  I thought this 300 movie poster with Gerard Butler’s fabulous abs was pretty festive.

Note:  If you are new to my blog (via Bloggy Giveaways) don’t mind the fact that 300 was written in what looks to be blood.  I typically don’t blog about blood very often (except when it pertains to Twilight related discussions).  I do, however, blog about hot guys. Often.

Ok, I think that I killed two birds with one stone there.  Decorations, check.  Yummy snacks to nibble on (Mr. Butler’s abs), check.

No party is complete without a game.  One of my favorite party games is Loaded Questions so I thought it might be fun to play a little question and answer game.  You leave me a question in the comments and I’ll do my best to answer it in a future post.

Now for the goody bag.  Let’s call it swag since it really isn’t a bag but just one thing.  Plus, I like the word swag.

I’m giving away a Panera’s gift card valued at $10.

To enter:

  • All you have to do is play along with Loaded Questions and leave a question for me in the comments.

For additional chances of winning, you may do the following:

  • Link to this post on Twitter or on your blog.
  • If you haven’t already, subscribe to my blog:

Subscribe in a reader

**Important** Make sure you leave me separate comments for each thing you do to promote so you will get credit for your additional entries.

This contest is open to everyone in the U.S. and Canada.   I’ll pick the winner by a random draw on Friday January 30th at 10pm and email the lucky person.

I’ll pick my favorite questions (i.e. the ones that aren’t too embarrassing or hard to answer)  and post the answers on my blog over the next couple of weeks.  You may want to bookmark my blog so you won’t forget to come back and see if your question was answered.

Ask away!!  Then head over here to win more fabulous prizes.

Move Over Kristen Stewart

FaceinHole has added a new Twilight pictures and of course I had to insert my face into it.

Create your own FACEinHOLE

Is it wrong to admit that this makes me incredibly giddy? Is it wrong to print this out, frame it and put it on my nightstand?

Wait, don’t answer that.

Weekend Report Card

I had fun doing the weekend report card last week so I thought I’d try it again.  Patrice mentioned that I should make it a weekly thing and put up a linky.  I’m not sure I want to go that far but if anyone else would like to join in and play along, I’d invite you to leave your link in the comments section.   I’d love to hear how your weekend makes the grade.

On Friday, we have a tradition of family fun night.  We play games together (usually the board game variety) and then eat ice cream.  Since getting the Wii, we have been doing that in lieu of board games and it is pretty fun.  I mean, don’t get me wrong, I totally lose every game I play, but it is still a good time.  A-

In case you were wondering, this is the flavor we had:

They kids talked me into this one.  Even though there is no chocolate to be found in it, which is usually a prerequisite for me liking an ice cream flavor, I have to admit that it is strangely delectable.  I give Edy’s Take the Cake an A.

After putting the kids to bed, my husband and I watched In Bruges.

If you haven’t seen it yet, I highly recommend it.  It has a great mix of comedy, suspense and drama.  Colin Farrell was fantastic (and extremely adorable) in it.  I give this movie an A!

Have you seen In Bruges?  If so, what did you think of it?

Saturday started off on a good note.  My husband was able to snag a Wii Fit at Walmart!!

I was pretty surprised to find out that my Wii age was only 45.  I was truly expecting something closer to 85 so I’ll take it.  So far it looks like it is going to be a lot of fun and very motivating.

Now, I just need to actually do it instead of wasting my time on useless stuff like this:

Create your own FACEinHOLE

Although I have to admit it is nice to see what it would be like to be Edward’s girlfriend.

Later that night we celebrated my “baby” brother’s 31st birthday at my parent’s house.  Dinner was followed by cake which was followed by presents.  You know, the normal birthday festivities.  We ended the evening playing this:

The girls team won all the games, in case you were wondering.  Girl Power!!

Sunday was another lazy day, with a bit of cleaning and laundry thrown in for good measure.  I watched the SAG awards and red carpet but I have to say that I really wasn’t that impressed with either.  The SAGs are definitely not the Golden Globes.  And the fact that Leo was missing from the event put a real damper on the evening for me.  The red carpet just isn’t the same without him, but I did think that this guy looked extremely hot last night:

HELLO John Krasinski!  You sure do clean up nicely.  :)

Here were my favorite dresses/looks:

Anne Hathaway (my husband’s pretend girlfriend) looks very pretty in this simple, white gown.  A+

I loved the color and top of Kate Winslet’s gown, but I’m not totally crazy about the fit at the bottom.  I did watch a video today where Kate said that she is giving up all diet and exercise until after award season.  LOVE HER!!    B+

I think Teri Hatcher’s dress is probably one that people will either love or hate.  I LOVED it!   A+

There were a few looks that I thought didn’t quite work for me.

Aside from the color and weird ruffles on this dress, the main problem I have with Marisa Tomei’s look is the lack of make-up.  Who doesn’t wear make-up to an awards show?  Of all places to go without make-up, an awards show is not the place.  C-

I know she does a lot of good in the world, but Angelina Jolie just bugs me.  If you missed her interview on the red carpet, watch it here.  She just comes across so cold and snobby.  Even if she is gorgeous, she could at least pretend that she doesn’t think she is better than everyone else.  Oh and I didn’t like her dress and hair either.   D-

Who were your best and worst dressed at the SAG Awards?

Facebook: Love it or Hate it?

I have a tumultuous relationship with Facebook.  One minute I am screaming its praises from the rooftops and telling everyone that I know that they just HAVE TO SIGN UP RIGHT NOW!!  The very next minute you might find me cursing its existence under my breath and being inches away from pressing delete on my entire account.

Facebook can be a lot of fun, but it can be a huge pain in the ass too.  It is especially irksome when a character from your past that you would much prefer remained in your past shows up in your inbox with a friend request.  What do you do?

I mean, I don’t want to be rude.  I’m a nice person at heart (really I am) but there is just only so much drama that I can allow into my life.  And if I do accept their “friendship” do I put them into a little group called “people I really wish hadn’t contacted me on here but I was too nice to ignore”.

Then there is the whole old boyfriend issue.  I refuse to friend them.  I’m talking about the ones you haven’t seen or spoken to in years.  All of sudden, you see their stupid face show up on your sidebar as a person “you may know”.   I have seen through the eyes of my close friends that it can stir up old feelings that don’t need to be remembered.  Ever. These people are exes for a reason. They didn’t make the final cut. So why should they be allowed back in now? What is the point?

(VERY IMPORTANT SIDENOTE:  While we are on the subject of ignoring friend requests, I want to clarify to anyone reading this that may have sent me a request to my personal account that went unconfirmed.  It has nothing to do with you–I swear.  The people that I am referring to above are real life annoyances, not my wonderful imaginary friends inside the computer.  You all are wonderful.  I definitely want to be your friend.  I just don’t want anyone to know about you.  That is why I set up a separate account for my blog.  The reason I did this was that most people in my life do not know about this blog.  It is my dirty little secret and I want it kept that way. If I know that some random Joe Schmo from high school was reading it, then I would feel like I had to censor everything I wrote.  Everyone who reads this knows that I’m a little strange and have no life, but I want the high school people to think otherwise.  I hope you understand.

So if you sent me a request to my personal account and I ignored it, please don’t think I am being rude.  I would love to be friends with you.  Just send me a request to my Daily Mish Mash account.)

I won’t even get started with the whole being tagged in photos nonsense.  It is wrong on so many levels that the person being tagged doesn’t get to approve their photo being shown to the world.  Where is the reasoning in this?  The same thing goes for writing on the wall.  And can someone please tell me what the heck it means to poke someone?  I am still trying to figure that one out.  Why would anyone want to be poked?

See what I mean?  Facebook is very complicated and definitely has its pros and cons. I think this video (thanks to Jen for posting it on her blog) pretty much sums it up:

What is your relationship with Facebook?  Love it or hate it?  Have you ever gotten a friend request from someone you wish you hadn’t?  Do you “friend” old boyfriends?

Juicy Giveaway

This contest has ended. Comments are now closed to new entries. Thanks to all who participated. I’ll announce the winner tomorrow.

A few weeks ago, our family was given the opportunity to be one of the first to sample Welch’s AquaJuice.

Initially, I was a little concerned because my kids tend to be juice snobs.  They pretty much only like one brand and it has to be watered down to just the right flavor so that it isn’t too sweet or too bland.

After 8 years of being a Professional Juice Mixologist, I have to say that I really liked the concept of this juice right off the bat.  It doesn’t need to be watered down because it already contains less sugar than many leading kids’ beverages on the market.  If something saves me a few steps, I’m already a fan.

Here are few other things that I liked about AquaJuice.  An 8 oz serving contains:

  • No high fructose corn syrup
  • No added sugar
  • No artificial sweeteners
  • Only 80 calories
  • One full serving of fruit
  • Excellent source of Vitamin C

Aqua Juice comes available in 52oz. bottles in the following flavors:

  • Apple
  • Fruit Punch
  • Strawberry Kiwi

So, what did our family think of it?

We tried the Apple flavored juice and it was unanimous-everyone thought it tasted great!  I even served to my daughter’s (very picky) friends at her playdate and they liked it too.

It has a  light, refreshing, natural flavor.  It didn’t have that artifical taste to it that some low-calorie beverages have.  I would definitely buy it again and I’d love to try the other flavors as well.

Would you like to try AquaJuice?

I’m giving away a free bottle of AquaJuice to one lucky reader.  All you have to do is leave me a comment and let me know which flavor you would like to try.  I will pick a winner on Friday, January 30th at 10pm.

So, which flavor would you like to try–Apple, Fruit Punch or Strawberry Kiwi?  Leave a comment below.

Then head over to the Quarterly Bloggy Giveaway Carnival to win some more awesome stuff!

Friday Eye Candy: Heath Ledger

Yesterday marked the one year anniversary of Heath Ledger’s tragic death, and coincidentally, it was also the day he was nominated for an Oscar for his role as the joker in The Dark Knight.

I thought I’d offer my own little tribute to him today by posting some of my favorite photos for Friday Eye Candy:

Aloha Friday Questions:

What was your favorite Heath Ledger movie?

Have you seen any of the Oscar nominated movies? (I haven’t.)

Let’s try to end the debate once and for all (if you watched The Office last night you know what I’m talking about):  Hilary Swank:  Hot or Not?

This Doesn’t Bode Well…Or Does It?

According to a story that ran in the New York Daily News, Rachel McAdams and Josh Lucas (best known for his role in Sweet Home Alabama) are an item.  They were spotted together at the Purple Ball in DC on Inauguration night.

A source told the paper:

They were so lovey-dovey, nibbling on each other’s necks, gazing into each other’s eyes and doing a lot of flirty touching.

Now, as a die-hard McGosling fan, of course this news comes as a huge blow to my dreams of Ryan and Rachel getting back together. Here are my thoughts:

1.  Clearly, Rachel has a “type”.  I mean, Josh is no Ryan, but he does have some of the same features.  Don’t you think?

2.  McLucas sounds ok, but no where near as great as McGosling.

3.  I’m still not sure I believe it because I just can’t see the whole neck-nibbling thing happening at an inaugural ball, but I could be wrong.  We all know Rachel doesn’t mind a little PDA (click link only if you feel like being sad) so you never know.

4. Rachel and Josh would make decent looking babies, but no where near the perfect specimens that would come from the pro-creation of McGosling.  Don’t ask me how I know this to be true.  I just do.

5.   I have decided that this is actually a positive turn of events.  We needed Josh to come on to the scene to fill the role of Lon Hammond.

If there is any hope for a Notebook happy ending, we need “the other guy” to make Rachel realize that her heart will always belong to Ryan.  Josh Lucas seems like an acceptable choice for this role.

What do you think about the pairing?

This Hat Is Your Hat

When I am older and I think back to yesterday’s inauguration, I probably won’t remember all the details of the day.  I may not even remember the speech President Obama made, as eloquent, heartfelt and inspiring as it was.

What I do think that I will have no problem remembering is this hat:

The hat seems to be making its rounds on the internet and here are just a few of my favorite images:

Even one of my very favorite bloggers, ThreeBoys1Mommy is rockin’ the Aretha hat:

If you can’t get enough of this hat, click here.

In all seriousness, I think the image that will most stick out in my mind that captures the day perfectly is this one:

The news reporters kept referring to the millions that gathered in Washington DC as “the sea of humanity”.  Each time I got a glimpse of the number of people or heard the chants from the crowd, I couldn’t help but get choked up.

To me, this picture represents our country.  A new, unified country.

I’m not trying to be naive.  I realize that America faces a lot of problems right now, and things may not change for a very long time, but it felt good to see so many people getting behind our new president.

There was a real sense of patriotism and pride that I haven’t seen or felt for a very long time.

And you know what?  It felt great!

I think this part of President Obama’s speech sums it up way better than I ever could:

Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America — they will be met.

On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.

So what was your favorite part of the inauguration?   What will you remember most from the day?  Are you feeling hopeful for change?  What did you think of Michele’s outfit?  Tell me your impressions of everything Inauguration Day in the comments.
