A Quickie

I sat down tonight to write up a post and my thoughts are just all over the place, so bullet points it is.

  • Did you watch the Gosselin train-wreck?  I don’t even watch Jon and Kate Plus Eight on a normal basis, but like a bug to a bright light I just couldn’t resist tonight’s episode.  I tuned in and after it went off I couldn’t help but feel completely sick to my stomach.  No one really knows for sure what the heck is going on but they are either great actors or having some serious marital problems.  The body language and awkward silent treatments were just so painful to watch.  It seems pretty evident at this point that Jon did cheat.  I know that he is denying it but you can pretty much read between the lines.  Who really knows though?   If it is true and they are going to deal with it on the show, I’m kind of surprised by that.  I can’t imagine that anyone would want to air their dirty laundry on purpose, but then again anything is possible when it comes to greed.  I just can’t see how this is at all healthy for the kids?  And since Kate says that she does everything for her kids, I’m thinking that there is some kind of hypocrisy going on here.  I’m sure the ratings for this episode were through the roof, so you have to guess that is their motivation for staying on tv.   My heart just breaks for the kids.  They didn’t sign up for any of this.  The whole thing is just so sad.    I’d love to hear your thoughts on this show if you watch.
  • I finally finished The Host this weekend.  It took me a really long time to get into this book.  I would say it wasn’t until about Chapter 13 (over 100 pages in) that I was hooked.  Normally I would just give up on a book after that many chapters, but my whole neighborhood read it and said they liked it more than Twilight so I just had to stick with it.  Once the story got going, it was FANTASTIC!!   Did I like it more than Twilight?  No, I can’t say that I did, but  I highly recommend this book!  It is such a unique and compelling tale.  There is romance, adventure, suspense…everything you could want in a book.  I couldn’t put it down!  I have to give Stephenie Meyers credit where credit is due.  That woman sure does know how to tell a story and create characters that you come to love.   If you haven’t read it, definitely check it out.   If you have read The Host, let me know what you thought of it in the comments.

  • Finally, I wanted to say that I won’t be around much for the next month.  I am starting a new job until the end of the school year so blogging is going to have to be put on the back burner for the moment.  I have a  few possible guest posts lined up and I’m still hoping to pop in every so often.  I just can’t say how much at this point.  I hope you understand and will stick with me during this sporadic posting period.

I really enjoyed The Host as well. I think it took the great character building of the Twilight Saga, without the tween-ness. She does such great characters!

I just can’t bring myself to watch J & K + 8, mostly b/c I cannot STAND her. OH and I always forget when it’s on. I just think that having your family plastered all over the t.v. leads to trouble. And yeah, I think they totally need to quit airing their dirty laundry on t.v. for the sake of those poor children. Ugh.

Congrats on the new job, that’s exciting!! I watch Jon & Kate + 8 & think it’s so sad the marital problems they are having. It breaks my heart for those kids, what’s going to happen? Will they live separately? that would be awful! I feel bad for the parents as well, I can’t imagine the stress of having 8 kids, and it has obviously affected their marriage. I really hope they can work it out!

I watch Jon & Kate + 8 and this past episode was so sad. Everything I saw and heard seems to show that they are headed for divorce.

Very very sad. What is going to happen with the children?

Hi there! I was SO sad to watch Jon & Kate. I have been an avid watcher from day one, even watching the reruns over and over. I just hate what has happened to them! They are both to blame for a lot of it…but to have it aired on TV HAS to be even that much more difficult.

I, too, have started a new full time job and my blogging (blog reading) have been put on the back burner! GOOD LUCK with your new job :)

I think I am the only person on the face of the earth NOT to have ever watch J&K+8…. it’s mainly because there are kids involved…. like you said the kids didn’t sign up for this.

I’ll miss you during your little sabbatical…….. keep checking in on me when you can….. I’ll be blogging MORE since school is about to be out!

Jen – I did watch Jon&Kate and am not a regular watcher. I was so, so upset I could hardly stand it. I just can’t imagine all of this going on TV . . . they are really having some problems and the feeling I got was that surely they will split up. I went to pick up groceries tonight and saw FIVE or more tabloids with her on the cover, speculating and saying all this stuff. I was so disappointed too, to be on Twitter last night and see so many people taking sides and either bashing him or bashing her. None of us know the real true story – maybe she really is a bitch or maybe they’ve edited her to come across like that – whatever. I wish they would take the show off the air on principle and leave them alone. Like everyone else, I feel SO SO SO bad for the kids.

I hope the job is going well . . . I am working on my post but have been crazy busy the past week!! Soon, I promise :)

Congrats on your job. You will be sorely missed, but of course we understand. :)

I’m bringing The Host on the plane with me this weekend as I head to NY for BEA. I’m meant to have it read by next week. Your 100 pages to get into it comment is not encouraging. ;)

I haven’t read the host yet, but I plan on it. I too have heard some good things about it. And like you said, they too said it was a little slow at first.

On the Jon & Kate issue, I have watched the show. Simply because it would give me strength to see that if this woman can manage all of those kids, I certainly could manage my two (and sometimes 4 with stepkids visiting) on any day. So I enjoyed watching them.

Recently due to all the drama and affair, it was almost like a must see thing. I tuned in, but felt so sad throughout the whole thing. I kept thinking of those poor kids. This isn’t good for any of them. And they should seriously call it quits. I can’t imagine things getting any better. Kate is truly a bitch on wheels. And Jon doesn’t seem to have the back bone to stand up to her. I just wish they would take this off the air, for the kids sakes.
