An Open Letter to People Magazine

To Whom it May Concern,

Really, People?   Really????

people mag sexiest johnny depp

I can’t dispute Johnny’s sexiness, but it just seemed like a lazy choice to me.

It was as if you realized at the last minute that you hadn’t given any thought whatsoever to Sexiest Man Alive so you had to scramble to throw something together.  Since you had a stack of photos leftover from JD’s last run as the winner you thought , “Hey, this works” and plastered his face on the cover.

I’m NOT impressed.  Not one bit.

You can do better than this, People!  And if you can’t,  then I think you need to take a step back and really look in the mirror.  With great power comes great responsibility and I don’t think you used yours wisely.

Wake up, People!!   This is your most important issue of the year and if you are going to just go about it all half-assed then you should  be ashamed of yourself.

After I finish writing this letter, I will be writing to my Congressmen to petition them to pass a new law that restricts the amount of terms that one hottie may hold as Sexiest Man Alive to one!  Yes, I know that is a bit harsh, but I just think you need to set aside the Johnny Depps and George Clooneys of the world and make room for some new blood.

I think you know where I’m going with this.

If you need someone to help you with next year’s choice I am more than willing to take on the challenge.  Of course, if given the position, I can already tell you the winner right now and save you all kinds of time and effort.

ryan sexiest man alive

Honestly, you should consider putting Ryan’s beautiful face on all your covers from here on out.   Look at those eyes!  You can’t go wrong with those eyes.

With all due respect, get your act together, People!  Your readers are depending on you!

Thanks for your consideration!

Sincerely,

A Very Disappointed Reader

:(

I squealed when I saw this last night because I was like ten feet away from them when they were shooting this!!  So neat!

That is so cool about that photo, I missed that post of yours. And what a neat shot of them! Gosh I love that show…

And honestly I’ve NEVER thought JD is that hot. So yeah, I don’t get that choice AT ALL. Whatever.

I have to agree – it just isn’t fair to all the sexy out there to keep running the same man.

I love me some Glee boys but I have to be honest, I really don’t think Finn is that cute. I do think that it’s completely ridiculous for Quinn to be lying to him about the baby.

I concur!!! Spread the sexy out for one… and also, add me to the camp who just doesn;t get the appeal of JD. I am happy that I see the OTHER Ryan in a teeny tiny photo on the cover. Just hope they do not mention his wifey since I try to pretend they are not actually married (b/c unlike Rachel, I do NOT love her and feel OK about them being together) I would be all for a RG sexiest man title though. I second your nomination.

Here, here! My thoughts, exactly, when I discovered People had “announced the 2009 sexiest man alive.” I actually ran down to the store and waited for the first print of the mag to hit stands, fully anticipating the sight of RG’s beautiful face–the eyes you can lose yourself in–gracing the cover…. alas… I saw Johnny… Decent, yes. Sexiest Man Alive? AGAIN? No. No, no, no.

Put me on the committee to vote for 2010’s sexiest man alive. Balloting should take no time at all.

I can’t believe they chose a shot where Finn looks completely dumbfounded, Puck looks distracted, and the teach. looks like he’s going to eat you. I’ve seen way better Glee photos! … Like yours! (Ever consider freelancing?)

I am writing to strongly object to an article in this issue which identified the sexiest men in specific age categories: men in their 20’s, 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s, ending with Gabriel Byrne at age 59. I turned the page to find the sexiest men in their 60’s and beyond and found that the drop-off of sexy men seems to stop at 59.

This is one of the most startling examples of ageism in print that I have come across.
There are many men over the age of 59 that are sexy, but apparently not to People Magazine.

What possible excuse can you offer for such a blatant ageist blunder?
