Back to School Giveaway

I remember the week before the first day of school vividly. I would drag my mom to the mall to shop for the “perfect” outfit. There would usually be plenty of fighting and tears. The clothes that I finally purchased would be brought home and tried on about fifty times and modeled in front of the mirror. Of course, there was the call to the best friend to find out what she was wearing to make sure that we were on the same page.

I know I’m making it out to sound so stressful, but it was actually a lot of fun. I loved fashion. I still do.

This is why I was so excited to be contacted about Marshalls new back to school promotion.

Marshalls is teaming up with celebrity stylist, Art Conn, one of the stylists from American Idol, to help re-create some of the hottest celebrity looks for teens.

Take a lo0k:

First, we have the “Grunge” look (unofficially inspired by Twilight):

marshalls b and g grunge

marshalls grunge

marshalls grunge boy2

Next, we have the “Rocker” look (unofficially inspired by American Idol):

marshalls rocker

marshalls boy rocker

And finally, we have the “Preppy” look (unofficially inspired by Gossip Girl):

marshalls boy preppy

marshalls preppy

These looks were re-created with discounted designer merchandise from Marshalls, to show that anyone can get that celeb look–without spending celeb prices.

Conn says:

“I’ve been fortunate enough to work with some of the most sought-after fashion icons. One of my favorite things is to show how easy it is to take inspiration from their looks and re-create your own without sacrificing high-end style at prices that fit within your budget,. Every time I shop at Marshalls I am always amazed by the great designer looks and trends I find at such low prices. It’s not about big budgets or living in a fashion capitol, you can still get the top trends that you see your favorite celebrities wearing for a lot less at Marshall.”

I’ve got a $25 Marshalls gift card up for grabs so you can have the the opportunity to do some Back to School shopping of your own.

  • If you’d like to win the gift card, please leave me a comment telling me who or what inspired your fashion choices in high school? Or feel free to let me know which look featured above is your favorite.

I have the fondest memories of back to school shopping and the excitement of wearing your new clothes.

I’m still so sad that we were in the midst of 90’s grunge when I was in high school. I wore Men’s XL button downs and called that style. *sob* And I had a really nice rack, so I just ended up looking fat when I was actually pretty darn tiny. What a waste.

I was mostly influenced by my family and peers, not so much TV or movies. Although I would also say that the store circulars influenced me too!

While I was in high school that show Laguna Beach was all the rage and even though we are literally on the other side of Southern California. We all dressed like surfers…big time!

In high school I was all about trendy labels. This is really dating myself but, I didn’t care what I wore as long as my sweatshirt said “bum” or “enuf” and I had a swatch on my wrist. :)

Of the styled, I think I liked something from each of them…

I was all about the cheapest options. I didn’t ever really get into clothes until College. And even then, I’m all about frugalness. I got made fun of a lot, especially for my pants, since I could never find them long enough….it was annoying. But I survived.

What is with those shoes? The full boots with the toes cut out? Uggg…some things, I swear….

my back-to- school clothes came out of donated sacks and were almost always too big. i was sooooo jealous of the kids that got new wardrobes every fall.

Sadly my wardrobe centered around what type of boy I liked that year. I went through grunge, hick, preppy and a slight hippy look. I thought I looked good, so I guess that was all that mattered.

Look, I can’t lie to you. My kids wear uniforms to school so guess what I would do with that gift card? I would RUN to my Marshalls and put it towards a new comforter for my bed. I WOULD. Isn’t that terribly selfish of me???
    God, I love Marshalls.

I’m embarrased to say that I entered high school when 90210 was big. It kind of inspired my look. Baby doll dresses, bodysuits with colored jeans, hippie, grunge. All worn at some point.

When I first started high school I was inspired by a lot of bands but then i just started to go with whatever was most comfortable and never really focused on what was in style of fashionable.

I’m not going to lie, those styles up there are scaring the crap outta me. Seriously vests are back?? and tight roll jeans?? I thought I would never see the day twice in one lifetime. Anyhow our styles in h.s were pretty simple. I wore blk pants alot, khaki’s, grey dress pants, big chunky shoes, nice dress shirts. Nothing too crazy. Thanks for the chance.

I shared clothes with my mom. We couldn’t afford much so most of the time it was just basic tees, though I remember once my step-grandma took me to Macy’s and told me to pick out any shirt I wanted and my love for Asia got me a nylon No theater inspired shirt and I wore that far, far too much.

I wore tee-shirt and sweats in highschool. I have noticed the sweats are comming back in style. They are even making them short so you don’t have to roll them up like we did in the 80’s.

When I was in school I was inspired by the hard rock look, tight jeans and band shirts, feathered hair and large earrings.

I have come a long way since then ;0)

When I was in high school it was all about the Preppy look, Izod and Ralph Lauren polo shirts were a big deal.

When I was in high school, I was definitely the Preppy one. Polo shirts, jeans and penny loafers. I actually had 2 pairs of penny loafers, black and brown. Prep-city. However, there were those times that I “borrowed” my big brothers surf shirts…So, I guess, maybe prep-surf – is that a category?

Thanks for the chance to win.

Hmm…in Highschool it was always about getting the most clothing I could for the least amount of money. I usually went to Tj Maxx, Old Navy, and thrift stores. Clearence racks and sales usually made my wardrobe…..I really don’t think that I ever bought anything that was full price. If I liked it and it was on sale…I got it.!!! Thanks for the chance!

Who knows what my style was in high school– I always felt like the social misfit!! :) I would say the last girl pic is most like my style– a bit colorful and yet comfy. Thanks for the giveaway!

I wanted to dress just like one of my best friends. It drove my parents nuts because this particular girl was obsessed with name brands!

Of all of the looks pictured, I’d say I’m mostly preppy (but not to that extreme).
