Close Encounters of the Celebrity Kind: Day 1

It’s celebrity encounter week at Daily Mish Mash!!!

If you’ve ever met a celebrity leave the link to your post in the comments and also with  Mr. Linky.  It doesn’t have to be a new post.  Feel free to link back to an older post.  The only thing that I ask is that you leave just link to the specific post and not your main blog url.  I can’t wait to read about everyone’s celebrity encounters!

I thought I’d kick off the week with my most recent of celeb meetings and I am dismayed to learn that it isn’t very recent at all.  It has been over 2 years!!  I’m really slacking on my stalker skills as of late.

Anyway, it was a rainy morning in April of 2007.  My husband (my celeb stalking partner in crime) called me to tell me that one of my favorite Idol contestants of all time, Ace Young, was in town and doing a meet and greet.

Please tell me you remember Ace.  If not, let me remind you:

Ok, so clearly I liked him for reasons other than his singing voice.  I thought he was really talented in the vocal department as well as being very easy on the eyes.

I know everyone was so shocked when Chris Daughtry got voted off Season 5 of Idol but I have to say I was more upset when Ace got the boot.  I really thought he had a chance to go all the way.  It was a travesty that he only made it to seventh place.  I really expected people to take to the streets in the same fashion as the Iranian protesters, but sadly there was no show of solidarity.

When my husband called me to tell me that Ace was going to be at a nearby grocery store promoting something or another, it only took me about 2 seconds to decide that I was definitely going to be there.  I jumped in my car, took my preschooler to my mom’s house and headed over to the store to see him.

When I got to the event, there were about 50 other people in line.  Now, I say people, but in all honesty it was mainly girls.  And when I say girls I really do mean grown women like myself who haven’t lost their inner fangirl.

As I approached the table,  I started to feel really nervous.  I had nothing relevant to say to the guy and I felt a little silly for being there by myself.  The lady in front of me was talking about how she had met him once before and he was really nice.   I watched him sign autographs and take photos and he really did seem genuinely appreciative of all the fans that showed up for him, but I still felt really awkward.

When it was finally my turn to meet him, the only words that I could manage to string together in a semi-coherent sentence was , “Um, wow, you are much taller in person.”

I’m 5 foot 6 so you can see that he really is pretty tall in the photo that they took of us:

He was really nice and I’m glad that I went to meet him.  I also left with a nifty autographed photo that I have framed and hanging over my mantle. (Not true at all because I do not have a mantle.)  ace2

(Of course if Ace is reading this, it is actually on my nightstand so I can kiss him every night before going to bed.)

Now it is your turn. If you have a celeb encounter story to share, link up below and feel free to leave your link in the comments as well.

Oh Jen, how I loved Ace on AI! He’s definitely one of my top 5 faves over the last few years. I’m super jealous of your personalized nightstand pic! :-) And I think I linked up my River Phoenix post correctly. If not, here it is again.
