Just Call Me Grim
Life lesson #689: When your sinister friend who clearly has no conscience whatsoever tries to recruit you into her “just for fun” Celebrity Death Pool league–JUST SAY NO!!
Otherwise, you may end up feeling like the Grim Reaper before all is said and done.
I made the mistake of getting talked into this horrible, morbid game despite the fact that it went against my better judgement and general moral code.
In my defense, I figured that it would be an easy win since I’m pretty good at all things pop culture.
Well, it turns out that I was right. I am killing (and I mean this both literally and figuratively) everyone else in the league with my picks.
What I didn’t realize is that I would feel HORRIBLE every time I got the news that a new celeb from my list died. I also didn’t think that so many of them would be going. Who knew that 2009 was going to be such an unlucky year to be famous?
Just about everyone had Patrick Swayze on their list. It is not a shock that he lost his battle with cancer. It is still so very sad to hear of his passing. He seemed like a genuinely good man who shouldn’t have died so young.
My heart goes out to his family, but especially his wife because everything I’ve ever read about them made them sound like a great couple.
Did you know they met when he was only 19 and she was 15? I love that. And I love this photo of them together because it reminds me of the The Notebook. So sweet.
I teared up when I read this quote from Barbara Walters:
“The way he looked at her, the way he held on to her, the way she smiled, I can’t really imagine one without the other. That marriage is extraordinary.“
What was your favorite Patrick Swayze movie?

Got something to say?

I bet those last 5 are shaking in their boots.
Wonderful post about Patrick. I believe he was a genuine person who loved his family, his craft and his life.
It’s so hard to pick a favorite. “The Outsiders” or “Ghost” or “Dirty Dancing” are all great. But then so was “Red Dawn” and “Point Break”…. I can’t just pick one so, I’m gonna have a movie marathon, pop popcorn and eat twizzlers.
RIP Patrick, you will be missed.

I’m so sad, now that I’ve gotten over the shock. I loved him. “Dirty Dancing” was easily my favorite, followed by “Ghost.”
RIP, Patrick.

So sad to hear of his passing. My favorite are certainly Dirty Dancing and Ghost.

First movie I ever saw with him was Dirty Dancing (which I watched last night, btw) but I really loved Uncommon Valor too. He was really young in that film. And being the dork that I am, I loved Road House too.

Ok, that quote totally made me cry!!! Those pictures said so much about their love. That is so rare to see anymore.
I loved Dirty Dancing when I was a little girl.
I watched Point Break a gazillion times b/c I was crushing on Keanu, but Patrick Swayze was in that as well.

You should probably warn the surviving people on your list…
I honestly was surprised. People really do survive cancer on occasion and it seemed like the reports fluctuated between “great”and “horrible”, for him, often enough that it was a possibility. I was incredibly sad to hear the news…

My fav movie of Patrick Swayze is Dirty Dancing. I remember watching that movie all thetime when I was a teenager and me and my girlfirends would always pretend like we could dance like them!!!!!

Um, did I see THE President on your list?? Just checking….
I would have to say it’s a tie between the two “biggies” of his for me – Ghost & Dirty Dancing. I love them both for different reasons.
And I find it kind of interesting that Red Dawn just came today via Netflix. How odd.

Yes, sadly I did include the President on my list. It isn’t a list of people I want to die, just people I think might die this year. I think the chances are pretty good that some crazy redneck will assassinate him. Hopefully not, but sadly it could happen.

So, so, sad. My faves are Dirty Dancing and The Outsiders.
Oh, and I’m a little afraid for the people remaining on your list.
