Letterman Tries To Crack The Joaquin Phoenix Code
I blogged about Joaquin Phoenix’s departure from acting and transition into a career as a rapper a few months back. Since then, there have been lots of rumors circulating that it is all a hoax. Phoenix denied the rumors and says he is totally serious about hip hop.
I guess by serious, he means falling off a stage at his debut concert.
Well, leave it to David Letterman to call Joaquin Phoenix out on his very strange behavior. He tries his best to get to the bottom of all this nonsense, but fails miserably.
This is probably one of the most uncomfortable, hilarious and just plain weird five minutes of late night I’ve seen in a long time:
So, what do you think? Drug addict? Depressed? Insane? Or is it all an act?

Got something to say?

OOOooo! ROFLOL! That was the best laugh! I am stumped as to what Joaquin’s trip is. It seems like nooobodies home. Maybe its a midlife crises?! Whatever, I that interview was FUUNNYY!

It HAS to be an act. Please. PLEASE let it be an act.
I really like Joaquin as an actor. Maybe (crossing my fingers) this is one big act..
But whatever the case, David Letterman is stinking hilarious. I love how he called him out on the gum.

I really cannot figure out his deal. My mind says depression, or just lack of… contentment… I don’t know. I don’t think it’s drugs, or at least, I don’t think it’s just drugs. I suppose it could be an act?

I knew you would have this on your blog- I can always count on you to be just as obsessed with pop culture stuff as me- I think he’s on drugs- I have heard the guess that it was a stunt to attract attention for his ‘new career’ but he has NO talent musically, so I just think he’s wasted!

I gave you an award today.

I saw the interview last night and had to put it on mute a few times, it was so painful to watch. I think he was putting on a weird act; for what reason I can’t say, but I think Dave was playing along. The Phoenix’s are wierd, though, that’s for sure.

I love when dave is in these situations but that was particularly painful. I think he’s definitely on crack.

I read a comment somewhere that said he is trying to be like Andy Kaufman and live through some sort of alter-ego. I think that makes sense. He seems like he is really trying to escape from reality. Although I feel sorry for him, I still find the whole thing comical. I guess I just can’t believe that it is for real. I keep thinking that Ashton is going to come out and say we were all punk’d. At least that is what I’m hoping.

I’m going with ACT. It’s ALL an act. Knowing how much Joaqin hates the media and the whole show business act, I’m really starting to think that he’s seeing how far he can push the boundaries and how much everyone, Hollywood and fans alike, will take. If you watch this with that in mind, not only is it funny to watch (and not uncomfortable and WEIRD) but you can see moments where he seems to relax in his “act” a little and other times when he’s pushing it to the max.
Course, it could equally be any of the reasons you’ve listed… I just choose ACT because it’s the easiest pill to swallow.
That, and I love his movie characters and think he’s a great actor. Don’t want to seem him fall off the deep end like he did that stage!

I sure hope this is all an act. I’ve always thought that he’s an amazing actor.
Letterman was on top of his game with this interview. H.I.L.A.R.I.O.U.S.

OMG OMG OMG I SAW THIS ON YOUTUBE LAST NIGHT OMG. I could not believe it! Talk about uncomfortable for sure. He had to have been on something. Seriously.

Joaquin likes to take roles as the odd man out, but that works for him as an actor so this interview with Letterman might complement his career

i think it’s drugs. I feel like anytime people wear sunglasses and they don’t need to (indoors, late at night, etc)., it’s either drugs , drinking… etc.

This makes me want to cry…maybe what Joaquin needs is a little loving from me?
Yeah, that’s it!!!! I could be his cure and then he could get back into reality and make beauftiful movies with his gorgeous and intelligent self once again.
Sigh.
It is really sad, whatever it is.

[...] up, it seems we have another celebrity turned actor in our midst. Joaquin started the trend, but I have to say that I think Corey Haim is the better gangsta. What do you guys [...]
