Post-Anniversary Wrap-up
Thank you all for the anniversary wishes (and for joining me in bashing Jon Gosselin because that is the best present you could ever give me. He is such a slimeball!!).
We ended up going to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner. While I love that place for the food I’m not a big fan of how they pack people in. Maybe it is just a Maryland CF thing but I always feel like our table is on top of the people next to us, and while they seemed like perfectly nice people, it didn’t make for a very romantic evening. But I guess I can’t complain since I chose to go to the Cheesecake Factory for my anniversary dinner. Who does that anyway?
The people next to us had the sweetest kids. The little boy (looked about 8 or 9) gave the waitress a hug before leaving the restaurant. A hug!?!?!?! My kids would never do something like that. Should I feel like a failure as a parent that my kids aren’t overly affectionate with the waitstaff or should I consider it a parenting win? I mean do I really want my 9 year old son hugging waitresses anyway. I can’t decide, but really it doesn’t matter because it would never, ever happen.
We went outside our comfort zone and tried a new dessert. We normally get the Factory Mud Pie, which is not actually Cheesecake, but just a giant slice of chocolate cake, ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate chips. I mean who goes to the Cheesecake Factory and doesn’t actually order a cheesecake? Us. It has been a staple in our Cheesecake Factory experience for many years, but it seemed like it was time for change. So we ordered this:

The Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake…..mmmmmmm.
If heaven could fit on a plate it would be this dessert. It was seriously DIVINE!
After dinner, we went to see The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.

I went into it knowing that it was going to be total fluff and there were a couple of really funny parts, but I have to say that I didn’t love the movie. I feel like I’m becoming really picky about romantic comedies lately. I guess I keep waiting for the next Serendipity or Only You or Sleepless/You’ve Got Mail and every single time I am left disappointed.
I found myself being annoyed with the way that Ryan’s character was treating Sandra’s character most of the movie. I know that was sort of the point, but it made for very little chemistry between them. Sandra was great at her role and Ryan is slowly growing on me, but I really didn’t care that much if they ended up together at the end or not. And to me that is not a good thing when you are talking about a romantic comedy. I think it is definitely worth the watch (for the Betty White parts and Oscar from the Office too), but I’d wait for it on dvd.
If you’ve noticed my absence lately in the comment department, it is because I am in full vacation planning mode. I tend to become a bit obsessive (huge understatement) when I plan a trip. My kids barely get fed and laundry piles up to the ceiling. Yet another one of the many traits my husband loves about me.
We FINALLY made a decision about where we wanted to go and I secured airfare yesterday.

The Florida Keys!!
We’ve never been to the Keys so it should be a new and exciting adventure. I’m a little nervous about the drive down on that narrow bridge but I guess it will be fine.
If you’ve ever been to the Keys, let me know of any can’t miss places to see, do, eat, stay, etc…

I just got all tingly with excitement when I read that!!!!!!!! I want to drive down and meet you guys there!!! It’s so much fun, you’ll love it. And by fun, I mean the only thing you have to do is lay by a pool and order drinks. Maybe snorkel if you are feeling all wild and crazy. I love how laid-back it is….don’t pack anything other than flip flops. That’s about as dressy as you need to be!
There is a little bar on Card Sound Road called Alabama Jack’s…..it’s a dive and it’s awesome! Grab a Red Stripe and the conch fritters…yum! It’s one of Kathie Lee Gifford’s fav places to stop on her way down to her house in the Keys. Also? You gotta try a Key Lime martini..the rim of the glass is encrusted with graham cracker crumbs….so delish! There is a place to stop (maybe near Islamorada?) where you can feed the Tarpon. Now I know what you are thinking….who CARES about feeding fish? Gross! NO BUT I SWEAR IT IS SO MUCH FUN! You’ve never seen so many fish!!! Right there by the dock! It’s amazing! I’ll get the name of the place for you from my husband….I forgot the name.
Email me if there are any questions I can answer for you/help you with!! Happy Anniversary!!

Also, I just re-read my rambling comment above and I made it seem like you can get a key lime martini at Alabama Jacks….that’s not what I meant. I just meant order one at the hotel if they have them. I think Alabama Jack’s is just beer and wine….

Okay, first you definitely have to have some key lime pie. The actual pie. It’s delish!
Secondly, if you’re a beer drinker, you need to try Yuengling beer. I’m not exactly sure where you live, but it’s brewed in Pennsylvania and only distributed along the east coast down into Florida. Living in Wisconsin, we’re deprived.
Have a great trip!

that will be a super fun trip! I become obsessive when it comes to planning too! be it a trip, a party or even a paint color.
It’s bad…
I love the coconut cheesecake from there, though otherwise- it’s one of my least favorite restaurants. (their pumpkin cheesecake is fabulous too!) the Godiva one is too rich!

As a Florida resident I feel it is my sworn duty to tell you about the little known tourist secrets of the Keys. Driving down the narrow road isn’t that bad, entering Key Largo (the first key) well actually a couple of miles in there is going to be a restaurant to your right called Hobo’s; it is divine and very charming. In Isla Morada (the second key) you will find two great spots; Theater of the sea and Braza Lena. Theater of the sea is like an aquarium that’s based on sea mammals, it’s very nice and fun for the kiddies and not very expensive. Braza Lena is a meat and salad buffet where the waiters come up to you with big sticks of meat and carve it right to your plate, it’s about $ 45 per person but it’s super chic and great for a date night. I have a million more suggestions of great little places to stop along the way or to visit while you’re there. If you’d like I’d be more than happy to e-mail them to you. Have Fun!!

I’ve never been to Cheesecake Factory, but ever since they talk about it so much on The Big Bang Theory, I kind of want to eat there, even though I hate cheesecake.
I’ve liked Ryan Reynolds as an actor since his days on 2 Guys, a Girl and a Pizza Place, but I think with all the movies he is set to appear in lately, just comic book movies alone, I might get a little sick of seeing him, though the Proposal I want to see because in an interview Betty White said she tried to do a nude scene but they wouldn’t let her LOL. I am beginning to think she is more like Rose Nylan than she wants to admit.

That cheesecake looks to die for. Think I will go have another piece of husband’s b-day cake and pretend it’s that. ; )
I didn’t feel the chemistry in The Proposal between the 2 of them AT. ALL. I did however enjoy watching Ryan. He’s hot.
That vacation is going to be amazing. I wanna go….

It cracks me up you were annoyed by Ryan Reynolds’ character because I was annoyed by hers! She was so rude to his family at first & everything! I would at least be polite & fake it! I don’t know, but it was a good movie I thought!
That cheesecake looks fantastic… glad you had a great date!

1. That cheesecake looks AWESOME!
2. I was a little disappointed by The Proposal too. My favorite part was Kevin, the puppy.
3. Hubby and I considered the keys too, but finally decided on the Bahamas. Hope you have a great time!
