So Behind
On Sunday night while I was watching the Golden Globes, I started feeling a little weird. As the night went on, I kept feeling worse and worse, but I did my best to fight it off because there was no way I was stepping away from the tv. It was Golden Globes night and I didn’t want to miss one minute of it. I love the Golden Globes. LOVE them! And this one was probably my absolute favorite one yet because it was a giant Kate and Leo SPECTACULAR!!

While I managed to not get sick during the broadcast, my luck ran out the rest of the night and all day Monday.
Since I hadn’t completely gotten myself caught up from being on vacation last week, now I am feeling totally behind on life. Laundry, kids school papers, work…the list goes on and on.
I had plans of doing a big Golden Globes recap, but that just isn’t going to happen, so instead I’ll just direct you to Katelin’s blog for hers since she pretty much took the words write out of my mouth.
As I was laying on my death bed, I did manage to watch the second episode of The Bachelor. Who’s watching? There is a girl on there that cracks me up because she is such a stalker. I think her name is Shannon. She came onto the show knowing everything about Jason (even his brother’s birthday–now that is weird. I don’t even know Mandi Gosling’s birthday). I’m somewhat interested in this Bachelor because even though he isn’t drop-dead gorgeous, he is pretty darn cute:

However, I’m a little grossed out by how many girls he has already kissed. I think it was about four in that one episode. YUCK! It made me remember why I stopped watching the show in the first place. Now I’m on the fence about whether or not to watch. Will you watch?
In between trying not to die, I did manage to finish Breaking Dawn. So, 2560 pages later and I am officially finished with the Twilight saga. There is a part of me that is sad, but there is also a part of me that is a little relieved. These books are so intense and I feel like whenever I pick one up I get so wrapped up with the characters and am compelled to keep reading until it is completely finished. I need a little break from Edward and Bella. I feel bad saying that but it is the truth. I am pretty happy with the way Stephenie Meyers ended the series. I know there were a lot of different paths she could have taken but I think the one she picked was the right one. Did you like the way it ended?
Next up is Midwives. I’m nervous. Every book I’ve tried to read in between the Twilight books has been disappointing. I’m hoping to find something that I like just as much as I enjoyed these books, but it is doubtful. Have you read any books since that have kept your attention the way the Twilight books have?
Speaking of Twilight, there have been a couple of Twilight-related blogs popping up. These bloggers feel badly about boring their readers with Twilight stuff so they started separate blogs for their obsession. I don’t feel this way at all so I will continue to bore you with news as it comes out, but in the meantime check them out:
Peanut Butter and Bella’s Lullaby
Inappropriate Twilight Obsession
I Tivo’d American Idol so I am off to watch that. I swear that Idol and LOST are about the only things that get me through the long winter.
I did hear that that they were going to do less bad auditions and try to focus more on the contestants that actually make it to Hollywood so that is a good change, but I just don’t know how I feel about this fourth judge. What do you think? Do you even watch Idol?
That about wraps up this completely idiotic post. Between Christmas, getting sick and the cruise, I’m completely off my blogging game. Hopefully I can get back on track soon. I have a New Year’s resolution post that I drafted, but it seems a bit late. Should I post it anyway?

Got something to say?

I wondered where you were, Kate and Leo were beautiful weren’t they. I missed most of it but the are replaying on Bravo.

I know what you mean about feeling sad but relieved about being finished with Twilight…I didn’t feel that way about those books, but I’ve definitely felt that way before. I’ve heard Midwives is really good, but I don’t think it will be a Twilight replacement!
I watched some of Idol, but I get really into it later when we’ve narrowed things down. Just one more week til LOST thank God!

Oh I hope you are feeling better!
I LOVE Kate and Leo..their friendship is really adorable! I can’t help but gush whenever I see them together!
And YAY! Another Idol fan!!

I really hope you are feeling better or feel better soon - this stomach bug sucks big time.
I watched the first episode of the Bachelor because nothing else was on, but decided that How I Met Your Mother was just way more worth watching so I’ve moved on - he is a cutie, but the whole being a dad thing and hearing about all his major lip locking, I’m glad I’m not watching it, the whole thing seems ridiculous to me.
I’ve read a lot in between the Twilight series and since - but I think my favorites have been Libba Bray’s series that begins with A Great & Terrible Beauty, The Mysterious Benedict Society & Anna Godbersen’s Luxe series - her new book Envy comes out this month but if you haven’t read The Luxe or Rumors yet make sure you read them first. Oh some other good ones are Jasper Fforde’s Thursday Next series - the first in that is The Eyre Affair AND The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz. Okay I’m done.
Oh and I did watch Idol last night and I think they actually have done a pretty good job on putting a bit more real talent than normal, I was able to sit through an hour of the first episode without wanting to gouge my eyes out and that’s saying something - in years past I wouldn’t watch any episodes until the initial tryouts were over.

I think we finished BD about the same time. I feel relieved but sad that it’s over. I’m glad it didn’t end exactly how I expected. It to end. If a guy were reading the last book he’d probably really be disappointed that it didn’t end with some awesome action. Perfect girly ending. I’m just wondering how they’ll do the movie and if they’ll change things up a bit.

I hope you feel better soon. It sucks being sick our house just got over it, I pray.
I don’t know what it is about the Twilight stuff, but I just can’t stop thinking about it. I will check out those blogs you mentioned. I saw the movie and just finished the first book. I want to slow down to make it last, but like you said I have a hard time putting the books down.
Have you had any other books that excited you like these???

Yes! Terry Pratchett’s Discworld series. Here’s a quote from the one I’m reading right now, “it fell like custard over the roly-poly pudding of the soul.”

I want to see your new years resolution blog….it’s only the 14th of January! Let me know if you find any other good books. I am ready the Shack because a billion people told me to. I’m half way through and hoping it gets better. So far I’ve had to convince myself to read it instead of convince myself to put it down. And that’s not really fun at all!

For me, it was more relief that Twilight was over. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVED them all, but I was just glad to get back to normal and be done with obsessive-compulsive reading.
As for the way it ended, I wrote an entire post about it complete with ranting and gushing, as needed. Check it out if you have time - I’m sure it will make you smile.

I have never ever been able to get into the Bachelor just because it kind of creeps me out. They dudes make out with all those girls and I just don’t ever come away feeling like anything deep and meaningful develops. OK maybe in the case of Trista and Ryan I could be proven wrong…but I still hate watching it.
As far as Twilight…I have mixed feelings on the ending. I want to know what Nessi’s life is going to be like. As far as Breaking Dawn itself. Well, this is a rather pathetic confession but when I first read it, I got ten chapters in and then skipped to the last five. I got bored. Seriously bored. BUT that’s mostly because, whilst the plot itself is riveting (in most of the books), Meyer is not the greatest writer and I got tired of Bella dealing the pregnancy and being whiny and all the other associated crap. Meyer could have written that so much better.
Then I saw the movie and sat down afterward and really read the book. From start to finish. I’m still not as thrilled as I was with the other books, and having seen the movie 5 times now (3 times in a theatre and 2 online), I’m even less enamoured of it. And I hate to admit this, but I’m not looking forward to New Moon’s theatrical release. Hardwicke isn’t directing it and last I heard they were getting a new guy to play Jacob. So maybe I’ll just wait for the verdict from everyone else before I risk a panic attack to see it in the theatres next year.
Wow…sorry for the novel!
Hope you’re feeling better Jen!

GO ahead and post your New Year’s post, why not?
Kate & Leo are gorgeous together - it was SO fun tweeting about it all that night! : )
I can’t take the bachelor this season. For some reason I am already disgusted with it. And aren’t they bringing back that one girl that got snubbed and then was the bachelorette recently too? I just can’t take all the stupid drama. Ugh.
Now Idol on the other hand, I am ALL about that! I love me some Simon. New judge seems awfully… well… judgemental so far! HA!
Hope you are feeling better!!!

Sorry you’re feeling under the weather — I hope it passes for you soon!
I was relieved when I finished Twilight too! Finally, I could go back to being a wife and mother again! But, like you, I had the hardest time finding a book after Twilight. I don’t think I read much for about 6 weeks. I couldn’t find anything that would hold my attention. Now I’m reading A Thousand Splendid Suns (by the author of The Kite Runner). It’s fantastic. I’d also recommend Water for Elephants and The Thirteenth Tale.

I’m going with Jen (aka MommaBlogsAlot) and saying that the Luxe series is absolutely fantastic! http://www.theluxebooks.com/

Glad you are feeling better!
I think the Twilight saga ended well. There was definite closure, yet there is still room for a fifth book if she’s ever inclined to continue.
I just finished the Southern Vampire Mysteries (aka Sookie Stackhouse novels) by Charlaine Harris. I’m trying to finish a post on my blog about it, but like you, I’m a little behind on life right now. There were some books I liked better than others in the series, but the series captivated me well enough to keep me reading from beginning to end. They’re not as innocent as the Twilight books; in fact, some chapters are very much rated R.
If you want a non-vampire-related read, I second A Thousand Splendid Suns. I also recently read In the Time of the Butterflies and really liked it, though I wasn’t sure I would at first.
And I cannot WAIT for LOST to return next week!

I have to admit this time around i watched Idol, i thought it was pretty good, they still had some funny ones on there. i probably can’t commit b/c i work some nites but maybe i will switch it on from time to time . definitely won’t DVR it , i just have SO many other tv shows, i feel that all weekend i watch them to catch up ha ha. This is fine now that it’s winter and i don’t want to go out in the cold but once summer hits, this may become too much of a tv addiction
and i will try to watch the bachelor, i heard people talking about it .

Oooooooh, so mcuh to say Jen! First, yes you can link that post if you please.
Ok - now I am a sucker for The Bachelor, but kind of skimmed that part because I’ve yet to get caught up on espidode #2, I was at a lecture that night and missed it, abc.com is my new BFF!
Ok and yes, I was also a little sad after reading Breaking Dawn a few months ago, but since then I’ve started re-reading the books - I’m already half way through round #2 of New Moon! Somebody help me! And I had to see Twilight twice, once with my husband and once with my son - to whom I’d promised I’d take him to see it if he finished the book, which he did!
Midwives was such a moving book. I hope the movie is even half as good, hopefully they got an excellent script writer for it!
And, I can’t wait to read the book from Edwards’ point of view, I can’t get enough of him. Like I said, I need help. At least I didn’t join that Twilight Mom’s group online, then I’d know I was really going off the deep end! LOL!

I love Leo and Kate too, can’t wait to see the movie.
Missed the bachelor, will have to catch up with this weekend on abc.com
Love Idol, getting ready to watch again tonite.

Hi - my first post here, introduced to you by Jen @ mommablogsalot .
I, too, was sad when I finished Breaking Dawn and drew it out as long as possible so I could stay in my fantasy land. I got *nothing* done in the house while I was reading the books, and if I started another book in between the series I was so not interested in it. It’s not that Stephenie Meyer is a particularly eloquent writer, but I was so engrossed in the characters she developed I fell in love with the books.
I also just found your post: http://dailymishmash.com/2008/is-this-a-good-or-bad-thing/ and found it hilarious! If I can’t keep a house clean while reading the series, how can Obama run a country?

Have you read Midnight Sun yet? It’s Twilight from Edward’s perspective - 264 more pages to read.

I love The Bachelor, although every season, I vow NOT to watch the next season. And the I do. In fact, a few friends and I are going to have Bachelor night watch parties, so we can talk trash about everyone- awesome!
And yes yes yes to American Idol. I actually LOVE the fourth judge. I think she brings a nice dynamic to the show.
I haven’t read the Twilight series so I have no idea what I am missing. I loved Midwives though!
