Spreading Some Love
I’m submitting this post as part of Halftime Lessons’ Tuesday Tribute. Check it out here. if you’d like to join in on the fun.

I always feel kind of silly talking about blog awards. It isn’t that I’m not appreciative when I receive them because it is always nice to hear that someone enjoys your blog. They really do mean a lot to me. It is just that I’m uncomfortable with the whole “Hey look at my new blog award” post. I don’t like to toot my own horn. I also hate picking favorites from the blogs that I read. It stresses me out to know that I might be leaving someone out.
So, I do what I do best when something is uncomfortable to me. I procrastinate.
And procrastinate.
And procrastinate some more.
Then months go by and I still haven’t taken the time to thank the following bloggers for their sweet awards.
Thank you guys so much! It really does mean so much to know that you enjoy my blog. Please click over and visit these ladies because they all rock!!
Now, it is my turn to pass along some of my own bloggy love. I have a different kind of award today. It is called the star commenter award.

I made it up myself and I invite you all to take it and hand it out to your own star commenters.
It has been said time and time again on blogs how much commenting means to bloggers. I’m sure for those of you that don’t have blogs, it can be a bit annoying and it probably makes us sound pathetic and needy.
It is hard to describe to someone who doesn’t blog how important the feedback is on something you wrote. There is a certain kind of thrill that I get each time I see the little alert in my inbox that someone has left a new comment. I read and enjoy every single one of them and they really do brighten my day more than you know.
I don’t care if you tell me you hate Ryan Gosling and think Twilight is the worst book ever written. It doesn’t matter. It still makes my day to hear from my readers even if they don’t have good taste. Just kidding.
That being said there are some bIoggers that go above and beyond with their comment love. I see their names pop up on just about every post I have written this month and I just want to give them special recognition and let the world know how much I appreciate the time and effort it takes to visit almost daily. Here they are my star commenters in no particular order:
Shannon @ Welcome to the Nuthouse
Susan @ Life in the Psych Ward
Elaine @ The Miss Elaine~ous Life
Jenn(ifer) @ Adventures in Raising Boys
Katelin @ Gorgeous Footprints in the Sand
Carol @ Siswick Construction Zone
There are more but these are probably the most frequent. I hope I didn’t leave anyone out. I always worry when I do a post like this that I did.
Making the rounds and commenting on blogs is definitely time consuming. I used to make it a point to visit all of the bloggers that left comments on my blog but that got to be a bit overwhelming. So, I stopped.
I’m thinking of going back to doing this but if I don’t stop by every day, it doesn’t mean that I don’t want to read your blog, It just means there are only so many hours in one day and I just didn’t have the time today.
While we are on the subject, I would love to hear your thoughts on commenting. Do you try to visit every person’s blog that comments on your site? Do you reply to your comments with an email? Do you like when people reply to your blog comments that you leave with emails? What is your general commenting philosophy?

Got something to say?

What a wonderful idea for honoring your comment givers!

I reply to some of the people via email, some in my blog comment section. I LOVE LOVE LOVE me some comments!! I follow everyone who follows me! It feels like giving something back. Of course I have also found some other low bloggy loves by visiting blogs listed on other people’s blogs. I try to comment on most, but am guilty of not feeling like I comment enough. =(

Thanks for the awesome award! I do try to comment if people comment on my blog but it does get exhausting sometimes – I do frequently reply to my comments with an email but only if I have something worth saying in response. I love when other bloggers do the same but don’t mind when they don’t, obviously.

Well….thank ya thank ya thank ya! I do love reading your blog
I do get that same “woohoo” feeling everytime I see a new message in my inbox from blogger. I love receiving feedback & I’m open to anything anyone has to say. I do try to comment on the blogs I vist…but lately I have had a hard time with some people’s word verifications so I can’t leave the comment. Grr!

I visit everyone who leaves me a comment, if I don’t already read their blog regularly. Although I don’t always leave a comment on my regular reads (such as yours) I always do read every post.

Well…. first of all thank you so much for the award! You were one of the first blogs I happened upon and read many times before I started mine… and I never left comments and now I feel like we’ve really bonded by leaving comments on each others blogs…. And now when I talk about something to my “real” friends and I mention something on my friend Jen’s blog, they just look at me like I’m crazy, but they just don’t get it! I love comments…. and I love leaving them…. and then sometimes I get so overwhelmed at all the blogs I need to read that I forget!
And I try to stop by peoples blogs that leave comments… that’s how I’ve stumbled upon some of my favorite blogs!

I appreciate the above honors, and I visit here and comment because I enjoy your blog and sometimes feel like we’re having a conversation….
I do know exactly what you mean about blog reading being a time-suck. I have certain ones I visit more frequently and I try to read everyone at least once a week.

I try to add repeat commenters to my reader. That’s not saying much b/c my google reader is perpetually at 1000+ unread. Then, I try to leave comments on at least 10 blogs a day. Sounds silly, but I tend to read and forget to comment, so if I set a goal it helps!
[Reply]
Amy–I don’t think that sounds silly at all. As far as the reader, I try to do the same thing with adding the repeat commenters, but I find that my reader is now getting completely out of control.

Thanks- I feel the same way about awards- totally grateful, but corny writing a post about it- like who wants to hear it?
I try to comment if I think I have something to add or am moved to do so- I get VERY wordy on your comments- your celeb gossip just gets me going! I’m not good at writing about celebs, but am still obsessed with them, so you get the brunt of that, I guess. Here I go again! Anyway, thanks for the award and being a good bloggy friend!

I think one should always respond to one’s commenters with an email, unless there is some compelling reason why not. It seems to me that all the smaller bloggers do, and the big ones don’t, which is why I tend to stick with smaller blogs. I feel like otherwise I’m a little fish in a big sea, easily ignored, and I hate that!
Great award, I’m going to use it, thanks!

thank you so much! i always appreciate you coming by my blog as well.
as for commenting… wow, what a timely post. you know, I try, I really do. when I first got really active, I made it a point to visit every single commenter, every day. and then life happened, and i got behind. and then i couldn’t catch up. so i decided what the heck, life happens, I’ll just start over. I really do try to get to every person’s blog who comments but sometimes it takes a few days – and now I don’t beat myself up about how long it takes me.
i work full time and can’t blog at work. so when I come home there is a house to be cleaned, dinner to be made, blog posts to be written… there just aren’t enough hours in a day. i try to catch up on weekends but even then there are things to do.
it’s a hard balance for sure.

Thanks for this cool award
I know what you mean about trying to explain blogging to people who don’t have one… the thrill of comments… it’s just something that has to be experienced, I guess, LOL!
I try to comment on those that visit my blog. Especially if they are new to my site. And I LOVE being able to reply to someone’s comment via email. I wish everyone had their email linked… it’s just so much easier to reply to a comment with an email!

Thank you so much! I’m really excited to pass this on!
I don’t use a reader but I TRY to visit AND comment on the blogs on my sidebar daily. But it is HARD (there are a lot!) And then I get distracted on those blogs and find another one to visit! I comment the majority of the time but sometimes I think “I’m just not sure what to say” and I’m not going to comment just to say, “hey, I was here!”
I do not always visit everyone that comments on my blog and I usually only respond to a comment if a question is asked or if I feel compelled for another reason, such as they say “hey, like your blog” or “I’m here for the first time!” I like to let them know that I’d love to have them come back and visit again.
Ok, I think I’m done babbling… : )

Yay ME!!
Thanks for the love Jen.
To answer your question, I have people in my reader that are pretty much guaranteed a comment (you are on that list) When it gets a little overwhelming I find it easy to bypass the more popular bloggers that will get 50 comments weather I comment or not, and visit the people that leave me comments.

[...] every post I write (and that is an accomplishment in a half). So I was super excited when Jen @ Daily Mish Mash awared me with the Star Commenter award, not only because it’s fun winning awards and being [...]
I try to email people when the comment is of a more personal level, otherwise I leave comments in response to comments. Most of my commenters are already on my blogroll or google reader, but I’ll definately visit webpages of new commenters. I try to comment as often as possible and don’t read more than say 50 new posts at a time because after that I find my commenting dropping down to nothing because it’s just page after page of blog posts.

I do visit each and every one of my commenters. But, then again, I don’t usually post every day to my blog, so I have an extra day to catch up. I actually enjoy reading and commenting on OTHERS’ blogs way more than writing my own!
I do try and reply to all my comments by email – if they link their address. If not, then I’ll leave a comment on their blog for sure, especially if they’re a new visitor! And I reciprocate following, too!

Thank you for the great award!!! You totally made my week (not that that was hard – but STILL!) and I’m honoured. I wouldn’t comment so much if it weren’t such a fabulous blog, with variety and interesting topics . . . and FANTASTIC photos to look at

Why thank you!
