This Hat Is Your Hat

When I am older and I think back to yesterday’s inauguration, I probably won’t remember all the details of the day.  I may not even remember the speech President Obama made, as eloquent, heartfelt and inspiring as it was.

What I do think that I will have no problem remembering is this hat:

The hat seems to be making its rounds on the internet and here are just a few of my favorite images:

Even one of my very favorite bloggers, ThreeBoys1Mommy is rockin’ the Aretha hat:

If you can’t get enough of this hat, click here.

In all seriousness, I think the image that will most stick out in my mind that captures the day perfectly is this one:

The news reporters kept referring to the millions that gathered in Washington DC as “the sea of humanity”.  Each time I got a glimpse of the number of people or heard the chants from the crowd, I couldn’t help but get choked up.

To me, this picture represents our country.  A new, unified country.

I’m not trying to be naive.  I realize that America faces a lot of problems right now, and things may not change for a very long time, but it felt good to see so many people getting behind our new president.

There was a real sense of patriotism and pride that I haven’t seen or felt for a very long time.

And you know what?  It felt great!

I think this part of President Obama’s speech sums it up way better than I ever could:

Today I say to you that the challenges we face are real. They are serious and they are many. They will not be met easily or in a short span of time. But know this, America — they will be met.

On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord.

So what was your favorite part of the inauguration?   What will you remember most from the day?  Are you feeling hopeful for change?  What did you think of Michele’s outfit?  Tell me your impressions of everything Inauguration Day in the comments.

Oh the Hat. The Hat. My three year old asked who was on the TV and when I told him, he said ‘Brock Onanna?’ in the cutest voice in the whole world.

Only Aretha could pull off a hat like that and she rocked it. I on the other hand would look have looked odd wearing that hat.
Michelle’s dress was a gold color but it looked like yellowish green on my laptop. I thought it was very retro. I wasn’t to sure about it at first but throughout the day it grew on me. When I saw her in the dress itself and not with the coat, I liked it even more.

Those hat pictures are pretty great – I love Aretha, but that is really funny! :)

I really liked Michelle’s outfit, maybe I’m the only one?

His whole speech was wonderful and I had a hard time finding one specific quote that might be my favorite, but I did blog about like 7 or 8 quotes that I liked – haha – I was never very good at choosing.

His speech was amazing. I won’t soon forget it and the part you mentioned stood out to me too. As did that enormous bow/hat thingy. I mean… Woah.

I also REALLY enjoyed when Yo Yo Ma and Itzak (sp?) Perlman played that musical piece by John Williams. So moving. Oh and the poem… Ok, I watched all day, what can I say?

More than the hat, I will always remember the way she sang “God Bless America”. I will also never forget the images on so many African Americans watching with such joy in their eyes, tears streaming down their faces and white and black people sitting together, standing together united as Americans.

The hat was definitely memorable. Loved Michelle’s outfits. However, probably what I’ll remember most is Brian Williams saying on NBC after Obama left the luncheon, “I bet he’s jonesing for a piece of Nicorette right now…”

The hat the hat the hat. I know it was supposed to be such a moving occasion, but I was so distracted by the fashion! And as far as Aretha’s concerned, I had to repeat to myself: “RESPECT!”

I linked to this post! Hope you don’t mind. :)

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to see the inauguration, I was busy with other things. But after seeing your blog, frankly, it doesn’t matter what Obama said. I need that hat.

Supermommy is pretty darn cute in that hat, but the bears cracked me up.

How did I miss the hat?!? In all the inauguration coverage, I never caught the hat! OMG, I almost snorted my coffee out through my nose — especially when I saw the bears!

    Oh! The hat was DEFINITELY…ah….hmm….

For me, what I loved was just the unity. I’m not an American but to see it happening on the other side of the world? It’s beautiful
