Weekend Report Card

This weekend was just the right amount of action and relaxation.  I love weekends like that.

On Friday, I went out with my friends from high school that haven’t really spoken in over seven years.  I was worried that it might be a little bit awkward, but it really wasn’t.  We had a fun time at Chili’s and then went to a bar afterward to dance.

Overall, I give the night a B+.

However, I give the DJ a big fat F.  As in FAIL!!!

Now, I’m really not much of a dancer.  It has to be a song that I really love to get me out on the dance floor and let me just tell you, this dj was no Ryan Gosling.

Now, I don’t really know for a fact that Ryan is a good dj because I haven’t actually been to Bardot to hear him “spin” but I’m just guessing that he is a million times better than the dj at the bar we went to on Friday.

How do I know this?

It was 80’s/90’s night.  Sounds fun, right?  Wrong!  He would start playing some good music and then mess things up by playing really bad songs.  I think the worst was The Bird, a song that should have been put on a rocket and launched into outer space never to be heard from again.

Press play on this video if you dare:

Any dj that chooses to play this travesty must now be known as THE WORST DJ IN THE HISTORY OF DJs. I kept saying to my friend, “I know Ryan would play better songs than this.”  She may have rolled her eyes.  It was pretty dark so I can’t say for sure.

Ryan, if you are reading this, please don’t ever, EVER play The Bird.  Ever.

On a strange note, I found out my friend had her nipple pierced.  I did not see the piercing with my own eyes (because that would scar me for life), so I just took her word for it.   I asked her what in the world possessed her to do it and she said she thought it was erotic.   I really didn’t even know how to reply to that so I just smiled and pretended not to be freaked out.

On Saturday, we spent most of the day just hanging out at home trying to stay warm since it barely got out of the teens all day.  Then we went out to dinner at Bonefish Grill (currently my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE RESTAURANT ON EARTH) with my husband’s best friend and his wife while the kids stayed with their aunt and uncle.

I give the dinner an A++++!

I had what I always have:

Bang Bang Shrimp

Grilled Mahi Mahi with Mango Salsa-YUM!  And I had enough to bring home for lunch the next day.  BONUS!!

Do you tend to order the same thing every time you go to a restaurant if you know it is good?  I do.  I figure why mess with a good thing?

When we went to pick the kids up at my brother-in-law’s we got to try out the Wii Fit (they managed to snag one after Christmas).

From what I saw, I think I’m sold on it and my kids really liked it too.  They want to use their Walmart gift cards that they got for Christmas on it so we would pay for half and they pay for half and we all get fit! Hopefully.

Do you have a Wii Fit?  Has it actually helped you with your weight loss/ exercise goals?

Sunday was a pretty lazy day.  I spent most of it reading Midwives.

I’m about halfway done and I can’t say that I’m really enjoying it.  It is very well-written and a compelling story but I’m not thrilled with how it jumps around.

So far, I’m giving it a C+ but I’m hopeful that it will improve as the story progresses.

Later that night, we watched the Ravens lose to the Steelers.  I even wore purple and tried to pay attention to the game this time and everything.  I tried to ask lots of questions to show that I was interested but I don’t think my husband liked that very much.  I think I am now banned from ever rooting for the Ravens again.  That works for me.

Oh, I almost forgot, we tried to see Slumdog Millionaire after dinner on Saturday but for some unknown reason it isn’t playing at any theaters near my house.  That was a big disappointment, but we settled for watching Burn After Reading on dvd:

The friends that we went to dinner with said they HATED it, so we went in with pretty low expectations.  I actually liked it.  It is definitely an off-beat comedy with only a few parts that actually made me laugh out loud, but the story was definitely entertaining.  The best part was seeing George Clooney and Brad Pitt in roles that were very different from the roles they normally play.

I give the movie a solid B.

Have you seen it?  What did you think?

Well, that about wraps up this weekend in review.  How would you rate your weekend?

I really want to try / buy a Wii Fit – it’s definitely on my To Snag list, just not sure when I’ll get around to it – and that movie looks good – it’s got a good cast and whatnot – I’m hoping to rent it soonish.

Everytime I think about The Bird, I pretty much just think about the Family Guy episode where Peter wouldn’t stop singing it and it was really annoying and made me want to turn the tv off. The end. I’m sure Ryan would never play The Bird.

at any rate, just looking at Ryan gosling would make him a far superior dj. right?

um- I actually saw it for work, and hated it. really hated it. They acted well, and parts of it were funny. (i.e. chad…) but i really didn’t like it at all.

Bone Fish ALWAYS gets an A+++ from my family. Bang Bang shrimp is a must at every meal, as is the scallop potato side dish. Plus they are EXCELLENT when it comes to dealing with food allergies – so YEAH for Bone Fish. :)

It’s been a while since I went to a bar with a DJ. Coincidentally, yesterday, we watched our Eagles at a bar in Philly with a DJ. I made a comment about how that job has changed. They used to have to carry in all that vinyl and stereo equipment. Now it’s a little laptop. Sounds like a great way to make some bucks. He played a little Beyonce and Fergie and Jackson 5 during the game breaks so everyone was pretty happy except for our heartbreaking loss.

My college roommate’s daughter had her nipple pierced when she was 16, I think. What mom condones that? She thought it was harmless. Her daughter wanted to be the first. I’m sure she was. First at a lot of things. What 16 year old is comfortable baring her breasts???? What was I supposed to say to that??

Bonefish is our FAVORITE local restaurant, 4 minutes away. We went with my sister and BIL and we had scallops in bacon with that amazing mango salsa. First time I ever had it. YUMMY!!! We always get the house salad and my husband and I split the Fontina Cheese Pork Chop . He’s not a fish guy.
We usually split the entree and the kitchen is super cool with it, very generous.
Then we went back to our house and played Guitar Hero World Tour and Shawn White snowboarding on Wii Fit. with the two young teens who were home. Great night!

I really liked Buffalo Soldier by Chris Bohjalian but couldn’t really get into any of his other stuff.

So I had a pretty similar weekend and thought it was really fun, too!

PS. Ellie Krieger has an amazing crabmeat recipe with mango and cilantro that tastes just like the Bonefish salsa. Very easy to make. http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/ellie-krieger/crab-salad-in-crisp-wonton-cups-recipe/index.html

I am wanting the Wii fit, too- I figure- it can’t hurt at this point!

I ALWAYS order the same thing when I go to a restaurant- I have the exact same reasoning! My husband criticizes that and tries new things and only likes his meals about 75% of the time- how does that make sense?

Burn After Reading in my opinoin was AWESOME!!! We rented it over the New Year weekend and I was crying I was laughing so hard! My husband enjoyed it just as much. The funniest part of the movie by far was when Brad & Frances were in her apt. and they called John M. on the phone to ask him if “his sh*t was secure”. My husband and I are re-living that scene and I’m crying again b/c I’m laughing so much! I really have to question your friends and what they find funny :-p

I almost bought “Midwives” the other day and I wondered if it was any good. Guess not so much!!

No Wii Fit yet but I’m hoping to get one for my birthday in Feb :-) We’ll see! I really want one and could totally use it during this insane winter weather.

I wasn’t brave enough to press play but if thats Jungle Love Or-e-or-e-o I love it! I did see Slumdog and I adored it, I hope you find it close to home and go watch it. It’s definitely a big screen movie because of all the color and the energy, I give it an A + :)

Love this idea to rate your weekend… I know you’ve done this before but I just caught on lol woops! Anyway, you should make this a weekly thing and we can all link up & rate our own weekends! :)
I have a Wii Fit at home, and although I’m not home anymore, I really liked it when i did use it at home (which really wasn’t much). But I think its a lot like going to the gym: you have to make yourself do it! That’s the hard part for me.
Anyway enough rambling glad you had a good weekend :)

I LOVE THE BANG BANG SHRIMP !!! although two times ago i had a bad bonefish experience. The bang bang was great as always , but for some reason, my entree , the chilean sea bass and veggies, tasted like someone had accidentally dropped a whole bag of salt on it. And i’m a person who likes salt, it was bag. No we didn’t complain i just wanted to get out of there and end the horrid experience. I’ve already been back , this time i got the crabcake, it was odd b/c it had some spicy sauce or remoulade but then i got used to it, it was yummy.
