Close Encounters of the Celebrity Kind: Surprise Vegas Edition
I enjoy celebrity stalking as much as the next person, but I think the best kinds of celeb encounters are the ones that aren’t planned and that take you by surprise. This happened one other time in my life and it was so exciting.
I like to use the Bengal Tiger metaphor. If you saw one at the zoo, it would be neat but not as thrilling as if you happened to see one walking down the street. When we were in Vegas a few weekends ago, we were lucky enough to have such an experience! (Celeb sighting, not tiger in case my metaphor was confusing as I’m not really great at metaphors.)
We came out of our hotel and began walking down the strip. We were on our way to the casino next door to our hotel because they had $5 blackjack tables (without skanky pole dancers). As I’ve explained before, I am not much of a “high roller” so we had to actively seek out the bargain (and skank-free) tables. Just as we left the hotel, we noticed a van parked on the little side street and a bunch of people with cameras setting something up.
Of course, my celebrity radar went off. I’ve been on enough stalking expeditions to know the signs of a potential sighting. We slowed down and tried to get a look at who was there and what they were filming.
Brad asked, “Hey, doesn’t that guy look familiar?”
I agreed. He did look familiar and even if he wasn’t famous, he was cute. So we stuck around a little longer to try to figure out who this mystery guy was.
We noticed he was standing with two other guys wearing the same disheveled looking suits. We couldn’t get a good look:
Then the guy with the curly hair turned around and we immediately knew who it was!
It was the cast from Glee!!!
Actually not the whole cast because it appeared that just the guys were there. This was fine by me.
Note: I actually do really wish the female cast members were there because I adore Jane Lych-who is also on the show Two and a Half Men and played in Role Models. I would have loved to have met her and tell her that she is HILARIOUS, but it just wasn’t meant to be.)
Confession Time: I hate to admit this, but I’ve only seen one full episode of Glee (the premiere last spring) because it comes on Thursday nights. I really liked it, but my tivo is already about to explode from everything that it has to record on Thursdays. I just didn’t think that I could add another show. I am sensitive to my tivo’s needs and realize that the tivo-owner relationship is a delicate one so I never want to do anything to upset it. I am clearly an idiot because everyone but me seems to watch and LOVE this show!! All I ever read is Glee, Glee, Glee and how awesome it it is. I feel so out of the loop.
It didn’t matter that I had no idea what the character names, or even better, the actor names were. I still couldn’t pass up the opportunity to sneak over and ask for a picture when the guys weren’t busy with the photoshoot.
First I went over to the main teacher guy. After a quick imdb search, I know that this is Matthew Morrison (who plays Mr. Shuester). He was incredibly nice and seemed happy to oblige me with a photo. I asked the guy that was standing with him to take the photo because Brad was off hiding around the corner. He didn’t want to participate in this stalking endeavor. Anyway, it turns out that the guy that I asked was the photographer for the shoot so he made a joke about the fact that a professional was taking our photo. He was quite charming.
Please don’t look too closely at me. I was pretty much up the entire night before so I’m looking very rough in this shot. Instead, look at this adorable creature standing next to me. OMG–I’m totally crushing on Matthew now!! I just love guys with curly hair and that whole messy tie look is just so sexy!!
I didn’t say much to him other than “Hi, do you mind taking a quick picture with me,” because I was scared that he might start quizzing me on his name, the show or some other information that I didn’t know. Look people, I can only be obsessive about so many things and with Ryan Gosling and Twilight, I’ve already got a lot on my plate. So, I just said “thanks” and got the hell out of there as quickly as I could.
I then approached the tall, cute guy we originally noticed at the beginning of this adventure. His name is apparently Cory Monteith and he plays Finn on the show (once again, thank you imdb). He wasn’t as friendly as Matthew. He actually seemed a little shy. Who cares? He’s tall and cute!!
Unfortunately, I was not able to get a photo with Mark Salling (plays Puck on the show). I know, I know…tragic!
I tried, but he had this girl with him that kept shooing away all the female fans. I don’t know who she was but I immediately HATED her with every fiber of my being!!! She was preventing me from getting close to this:
How adorable is he!?!?!?!
[Rant Alert (sorry but it has to be said): I'm still a little annoyed by the fact that he didn't seem to want to be approached by fans. I try to keep in mind that he may have just been having a terrible day and wasn't in the mood. And of course if that is the case, I totally respect that and believe that he has the right to not feel like taking pictures, doing autographs, etc.. However, I can't help but think that maybe he just didn't want to be bothered by it and that is UNACCEPTABLE to me. Because if Ryan FREAKING Gosling can sign autographs and take pictures with fans for almost an hour after his show, I think you can suck it up and do the same thing. Because even if Glee is a good show , it is NOT The Notebook!!! End Rant.]
I can’t wait to see the photos they took outside the hotel! If anyone comes across them, please send them to me. They will look something like this (but way less dorky):
Do you watch Glee? Who is your favorite guy on the show???
Dead Man’s Bones Concert: Part 2
In case you missed it, you can click here to read all about my first Dead Man’s Bones concert experience.
There are times when I’m glad to have a blog and this is one of those times.
I feel like I need to get all these details recorded properly so when I’m 95 years old and possibly unable to chew my food or recall my own name, I will still be able to ask someone to read this back to me so I can remember the feeling of pure unadulterated bliss that I experienced that one cold October weekend in 2009.
The evening in DC started off on the same crazy note as it did in Philly. We arrived at the concert venue (this time a Synagogue) and had another unexpected Gos-sighting.
We were walking to get a place in line and my friend glanced through these two double doors and said, “Oh my God, there he is!!!“ I backed up to peek in, and lo and behold, THERE HE WAS!!!!!! I squealed and ran away like I was about eight years old. Scratch that. My eight year old daughter wouldn’t have even reacted like that big of a lunatic. Clearly, I need professional help.
We took our place in line (much closer to the front–thank goodness) and waited in the pouring down, freezing rain for the doors to open. It was painfully cold. By the time I got inside, my feet were so numb I thought there was a very good possibility that they might actually fall off.
Something funny happened as we waited. The security guard came out to tell us that there was only five more minutes and he said, “Ladies and gentle–oops, I guess I should just say ladies. Wow, there are sure are a lot of you ladies here tonight.”
I guess to an outsider it would seem a little funny to see so many grown women waiting in the pouring rain for hours to see some random band. Little did he know that it would take a combination of the biggest blizzard/tornado/tsunami/hurricane the world has ever seen to even make us think about getting out of that line. Surely, a little rain and cold wasn’t going to stop us.
Once we got into the Synagogue, we made our way to the front and were seated about 3 rows from the stage. I was ecstatic to see how close we had gotten!
Once again, Dead Man’s Bones put on an incredible show! I loved being so close. I could really see all the cute expressions that Ryan made while he was singing. There were a few times that I had to remind myself to breathe. By the time the concert ended, I actually felt dizzy.
Several other times I had to grip my friend’s leg. I’m not really sure why I did this. Maybe it was so that I could stop myself from passing out. Either that or I thought at any given moment I might actually run up on stage and rip Ryan’s clothes right off. I just felt compelled to brace myself multiple times during the concert. (Kate, if you have bruises on your leg from my death grips, I am so sorry.)
Honestly, can you really blame me? Look at these photos that someone with a better camera than me snapped last night:
Can you really say for sure that you wouldn’t have been just as crazed as me if this is what was standing about ten feet in front of you?
There was one part in particular that just about did me in. Ryan was singing a song (I forget which one) and he started breathing heavily into the microphone. Seriously, the word hot doesn’t even begin to describe how it sounded. Um, yeah. I’ll just leave it at that because this is a PG rated blog and I don’t think it would be proper to elaborate. Just trust me, it was HOT!!!
Another favorite part was when they performed one of the new songs that isn’t on the cd. Ryan sung it almost “a capella” and let me tell you that it had to be one of the most romantic songs I’ve ever heard in my entire life. The way he sung it was just beautiful. He had his eyes closed for most of the song and his voice was so vulnerable and tender. My friend Kate looked over at me and at the same time we both whispered to each other that we wondered who he was thinking about when he sung this song. Of course, you all know who I hoped he was thinking about.
I bought a t-shirt after the show (which I of course I had to wear to bed last night) and then we went back outside to wait for Ryan and Zach to come out. It was still raining so I was starting to get worried that they wouldn’t be signing autographs or taking pictures. There was also a much larger group of girls waiting this time which also concerned me. I wondered if this might scare them away. To me, it looked almost like a mob of crazy stalkers just waiting to attack. They frightened me so I can only imagine what Ryan and Zach must have been thinking. (Don’t you just love how I talk about them as if I wasn’t a part of the madness.)
To pass the time, my friend Kate and I discussed our strategy. Yes, this time I was on a mission and I wasn’t going to let my nerves take over and ruin everything again. I had 3 goals tonight:
- I wanted Zach and Ryan to sign my cd case.
- I wanted to actually talk to Ryan instead of just standing there looking like a zombie.
- I wanted to get close enough to smell him.
We devised a foolproof plan to achieve all 3 of these goals. Now that the plan was set, it was time to put it into action.
First up, Zach came out. I approached him hesitantly because my friend Kate said, “Girl, I wonder if he is going to recognize you from last night.“ Ugh, the pressure. I wondered the same thing, but felt like with all the girls they meet that he probably wouldn’t.
He took the cd case and looked up and said, “Heyyyy, I remember you.” He asked me how I thought the show compared to last night and we chatted a bit. Once again, I was totally blown away by his amazing personality. I gushed about him a lot in the last post, so I won’t repeat the same stuff but just know that he is still cute as ever and everything I said still applies.
Here is a pic of him signing:
And here is a close-up of his autograph:
[Sidenote: I think my husband has a bit of a man-crush on Zach. Both he and my friend's husband couldn't stop talking about the impression that he made on them on the ride home in the car. It isn't like I blame them, but it was actually pretty funny to hear them gush about him.]
We had a few more minutes to wait until Ryan came out. I tried to center myself so that I would not make the same mistakes that I made the previous night. I took deep cleansing breaths. I practiced my lines in my head. I was determined to get this right!
Here is how it all went down:
When it was our turn, I approached Ryan and asked him to sign my cd case. I was shaking like a leaf but I managed to get the words out. While he was signing, I worked up enough nerve to ask him my question. As the words left my mouth, I kept thinking to myself that my voice sounded so weird. Has that ever happened to you? I don’t know how to explain it. It just sounded like I was talking in slow motion or something. It sounded like this to me:
“Heyyy, IIII waaaassss wonddeeerrrinnngg abbbbouttt thhhhee nnneewwwww songgggsss yoooouuu sunnnggg tonnniggghttt. Doooo youuu thinnnnkkk yooouuu willlll reelleeeasse themmmmm?”
Ugh.
Luckily, he was able to understand the complex language of Fan-Girl, but in case you weren’t able to I will translate for you. I asked him about the new songs they performed at the concert. I told him that I loved them (which I did!!) and wanted to know if they had any plans to release them. He thanked me and said that they were planning to release them but didn’t like the way they came out when they recorded them for this album. He said they needed to redo them and he hoped they would release them down the road. This isn’t a word for word transcript of the conversation but I’m pretty sure that is what he said. Let me remind you that my brain was still pretty much mush at this point.
[Looking at that photo, I wonder if I could retrieve the DNA from that pen and cd case for cloning purposes. If anyone reading this has directions on how to accomplish this, please email me privately.]
Close up of Ryan’s autograph:
I will cherish that cd case forever and ever.
After he finished signing, it was time to put phase two of the plan into action.
My friend Kate said, “Hey Ryan, we are here celebrating her birthday. Do you think that she could get a birthday hug.”
There was a split second where I worried that he might say no, but he responded in the sweetest voice I think I’ve ever heard in my whole life, “Oh no, you missed it. We just sung Happy Birthday a few minutes ago. You should have been here.“ Then he opened his arms up for the hug. I felt like I was about to melt but I pulled myself together and nearly leapt into his arms.
I made sure to take a deep breath to take it all in this time.
Now, at this point in the story, you may think that I’m crazy (Ha! I say this as if you weren’t already thinking that). I am now going to try to put into words what he smelled like because I know that if I was reading this that is exactly what I would be wondering. I feel it is my duty to give you the multi-sensory report. Bottom line: he smelled really good!! Very clean and definitely sexy (despite the fact that he had just finished performing and was on day 3 of this sweater.) I have been racking my brain all day trying to pinpoint the smell because it seemed kind of familiar to me and I think I may have figured it out. It reminded me of Old Spice. Now don’t quote me on this because I could be totally off, but I had an old boyfriend that wore it and the scent was definitely in that same family.
Ok, so back to the hug. As he was hugging me he said, “Happy Birthday” and of course like a complete doofus I said Happy Birthday back to him. I quickly corrected myself and said, “Thank you,” but the damage had already been done. I had practiced all my lines but he caught me off guard with the “Happy Birthday” and I couldn’t think on my feet fast enought to come up with an appropriate response. Damn it! I’m so not a smooth operator.
The hug was quick and after it was over (oh how I wished it would never end…) my friend Kate snapped another picture of us together and I really like this one because you can really see how tall he is in it.
As I type this recap, I’m still feeling high on Gosling. I can’t even put into words how exciting this weekend was. I feel like I’m floating on a cloud and I never want to come down.
Unfortunately, I have to get back to real life. Life that involves the carpool lines, endless loads of laundry, and cleaning up cat puke. Life that doesn’t involve hugging Ryan Gosling. Sigh.
Thanks for following me on this crazy endeavor. I’ve really enjoyed sharing it with you all.
Close Encounters of the Celebrity Kind: The All-Nighter Edition
On Friday, I mentioned that there was a movie filming in DC and that we might be going to try to catch a glimpse and photo with the stars. I also made a vision board with Paul Rudd’s photo on it so that I would increase my chances of meeting him.
I am here to tell you that I am now a firm believer in the power of the vision board. It totally works!!
Let me tell you how the night unfolded. It was long and crazy, but in the end we had a really fun time.
After dropping the kids off at my mom’s, we set out to go stalking the movie set around 7pm. We drove through torrential downpours and hail and finally got down to DC about 8ish. When we arrived on set we found out that they wouldn’t be filming until 1am.
Now most sane people would turn around and drive home. We did debate a little about whether or not to stick around. I mean even if we did watch the filming there was no guarantee we were going to get up close and personal with the stars. As I’ve learned from past experience, filming is a long and tedious process. It takes hours to set up for a scene that is only a few minutes long and then they film that same scene over and over and over again. We decided to eat dinner and then do some investigating to see whether or not it would be worth it to stick around.
After eating dinner, we stopped in a Starbuck’s right down the street from where they were going to be filming to kind of just hang out for a bit. While we were in there, I asked if anyone had heard anything about who would be filming tonight and the guy working there pointed to these two very official looking ladies carrying very official looking clipboards and said, “This is who you want to talk to.” So I asked and they said that it would be Jack Nicholson and Paul Rudd filming a scene. Then the other lady chimed in that Reese Witherspoon and Owen Wilson would also be there. Once I heard that they would all be there I knew we had to stay.
We sat outside of the Starbuck’s and started chatting with these two girls sitting next to us. Well, it ended up that the one girl was the girl that I had been talking to on Twitter earlier that day. She was the one who had given me the information about the location for filming. There were so many people there to see the stars that I thought it was so strange that we ended up meeting. It is such a small world! By the end of the night we had all become great friends.
We met so many interesting people that night. There was a girl there who had went to high school with Reese. Then we met another girl who was madly in love with Paul Rudd and had been dragging her husband around all day to stalk him (and let me just say he didn’t seem very excited to be there). The cast and crew were so friendly, as were the bodyguards to the stars. There were some real freaks out too, but overall everyone was so warm and friendly.
We decided to walk around a bit to see if we could find the “base camp” with the trailers. We found two trailers, but we had no idea who they belonged to. We asked a guy outside the trailer who looked like a bodyguard and apparently the one belonged to the director and the other one was Jack Nicholson’s. It became our mission to hang out near Jack’s trailer to catch a glimpse. Unfortunately, when the bodyguards got word that he would be coming out they made us leave so we didn’t get a good opportunity to ask him for a pic.
As the night went on we saw Paul Rudd. He appeared a lot shorter and smaller in stature than I would have thought he would be. I know that a lot of Hollywood is small but it caught me off-guard. He did look cute but just not how I expected.
After Paul and Jack finished filming their scene, Jack walked by and waved to everyone. He was guarded by three security guys so there was no way we were going to get a pic but he looked really cool. He was wearing his signature shades (at night) and he did this two handed wave that just looked very….well… Jack-like if you know what I mean.
Reese finally came on the set and we did get a great glimpse of her as she was walking to her car to leave. Now I know we all have seen her in movies and it is common knowledge that she is very pretty, but she is actually even more beautiful in person. I mean she looked absolutely STUNNING. It was exactly how you would expect a movie star to look but even better. She was wearing this bright red dress and her hair was all done up and blowing in the wind. I couldn’t believe how breathtaking she was.
Supposedly, Jake Gyllenhaal was on the set the night before to watch Reese filming, but he never showed up on Friday. That was a bit of a bummer. Unfortunately, we also didn’t get a good glimpse of Owen either.
As the night wore on, it was becoming more and more obvious that we may not meet any stars. We once again debated about whether or not to leave. In the end we stayed all night which was kind of crazy, but also really fun. We stayed for two reasons. One, we ended up sitting at a table that was in the background of the background actors, so we were hoping that we might be in the scene. For whatever reason this made my husband happy, so I agreed to stay. We also had so much fun talking and laughing with our new friends (the girls from Twitter) that we didn’t really want to leave.
Then we got word from one of the crew that Paul would be leaving and getting into a car that was parked right where we were sitting so we kept waiting and waiting for him. Well, he ended up filming another scene so by the time he left it was dawn. We were so exhausted but the end result was that we did get to meet him and take a picture (notice the sun coming up in the background):

He was really tired from filming all night so we were so grateful that he took the time to come over and meet us. He seemed like a very down to earth guy and all of the crew that we spoke with said that he was so easy-going and nice to them.
It was a really long night. After we left we went down to the White House which was a few blocks away and took some photos in front of it.
Here’s a little known fact…at 6:30 in the morning there is no one in front of the White House taking pictures so you can have the whole place to yourself. You could moonwalk up and down Pennsylvania Ave and no one would blink an eye at you. We were way too tired to moonwalk but we got a few photos before heading home.
Me and my celebrity stalker partner in crime….

My new celebrity stalker buddies from Twitter…

It is law that you must end all long and crazy nights with a trip to Denny’s so that is exactly what we did.
I’m so excited to have a new photo to add to my collection. I wonder who we will meet next. Hopefully the vision board will make all of my celebrity stalking dreams come true!
Friday Eye Candy: The Wish List
I’ve enjoyed looking back at my own past celebrity encounters, as well as reading your stories. Thanks to everyone who shared their links.
As most of you know, I’m a big believer in The Secret so I thought I’d create a little vision board of the celebs that I most want to meet.
What is a vision board you ask? Well, it is a visualization tool (kind of like a collage) where you post pictures to help you attract what you are most wanting to bring into your life.
I’ve never made one before so I can’t say whether or not it works, but I figure I’ve got nothing to lose so I’ll give it a try.
Jen’s Most Wanted Celebrity Encounter Vision Board
Ryan Gosling (well, duh…you knew he was going to be #1)

James McAvoy

Rachel McAdams (Preferably with the aforementioned Gosling)

Leonardo DiCaprio

Kate Winslet

Robert Pattinson

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson (my current favorite celeb couple)

Paul Rudd

Now Paul Rudd is a recent addition. I’ve added him because he is filming a movie in DC (with Reese Witherspoon and Owen Wilson) and I am planning to do a little stalking this weekend. Hopefully, I will come back with a new photo to add to my collection.

- If you had the opportunity to have a dinner party and invite 3 famous people (living or dead) who would be your guests?
And because I really want to do something to pay tribute to Michael Jackson, I’d love to know–
- What is your favorite MJ song or memory?

Close Encounters of the Celebrity Kind: Day #4
My favorite celebrity encounter happened at the premiere for the movie Ladder 49.

I originally went because I wanted to see John Travolta. It wasn’t like I was a huge fan (Note: I prefer Grease 2 to the original anyday) but I thought why not? He’s a celebrity. I’m a celebrity stalker. It seemed like the thing to do.
Unlike the Matt Damon premiere, it was a total mob scene at the theater. It was a warm summer evening and the event must have been highly publicized because everybody and their brother was trying to catch a glimpse of the stars.
I show you this photo for two reasons. 1.) I think my butt looks good in those jeans and 2.) I want give a proper illustration of the crowd I had to fight through to see the stars.

Sadly, this was as close as I got to John Travolta:

He did not stop to sign autographs or pose for pictures with the fans. Pretty lame, don’t you think?
Now before going on with the story, I really must digress for a minute and tell you just how strange I thought John Travolta looked in person. The best way I could describe it was that he looked like a walking corpse. I mean his face was a weird shade of green/gray but it looked like someone tried to hide it by caking on a bunch of makeup. It was so odd and actually a bit frightening, which could explain why he didn’t want to get up close and personal with the fans.
Well, after Zombie Travolta made his way into the building, another car pulled up and the celebrity who got out was….

Joaquin Phoenix!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Now this was pre-crazy lumberjack rapper Joaquin that we have all come to know and not love. I contemplated putting a picture of the new and unimproved Joaquin, but I just can’t bring myself to do it. I’d much rather remember him this way, before he went off the deep end.
As he made his way down the red carpet, I looked for a good spot to stand so that I’d be close enough to get a photo. I pushed my way through the crowd but it was packed and there were so many people yelling his name at one time that I was beginning to lose hope of getting my chance with him. I decided that I would just get my husband to take this picture to document the occasion.

Right after this photo was taken, I tried one more time to get his attention and JACKPOT!! He looked up and acknowledged me. I asked if he would pose for a photo and he said, “Sure, as soon as I’m done signing this.”
Now this is where the story gets good.
Right before my husband was about to snap the photo of us together Joaquin said, “Hold on a second.” Out of nowhere, he reached over and put his hand up on to my face and said, “Do you mind? I just want to get this eyelash off your nose.”
HOLY CRAP!!! Did Joaquin Phoenix just pick an eyelash off my face?!?!?!? I was stunned. Do I look stunned in this photo? Because trust me, I was totally ready to PASS OUT!!

Now, I do realize that this is a horrendous picture. My face is cut off, my hair looks atrocious, and Joaquin isn’t even smiling but I really don’t care. I love it!
I left that premiere on cloud nine!
Thank you Joaquin for this really unique celebrity encounter. I will never forget it. (I really do hope that you get over this whole rapping phase and go back to making movies, though.)
There is still time to add your story. If you’ve ever had a brush with fame, write a post and link up below.
Close Encounters of the Celebrity Kind: Day #3
When I heard that Matt Damon would be in Baltimore for the premiere of his 2003 movie, Stuck on You, I knew that I was definitely going to be there.
I mean we’re talking about MATT DAMON for crying out loud!!!

When the day of the premiere arrived, it was bitter cold and it had recently snowed so the roads were a mess. I wasn’t going to let that stop me from this stalking expedition. I put on my goose down jacket and parked myself outside the theater. My husband went with me this time, but it took a lot of begging since there was a football game on tv.
I expected there to be tons of people waiting outside, but I guess the weather and the game on that day kept people away. But seriously, people, it is Matt FREAKIN’ Damon. I don’t care if they were predicting tornadoes, hail, or giant balls of fire to rain from the sky, there was nothing that was keeping me from this premiere!!
When Matt’s car pulled up, they let him off in a spot that he had to climb over snow drifts to get to the red carpet which I thought was kind of rude. He didn’t seem to mind though.

When he reached the small group of fans gathered outside the theater, he gladly signed autographs and posed for pictures. He was so friendly and down to earth. He kept saying how he couldn’t believe that we had waited outside in the cold for him. He seemed genuinely appreciative of us being there.

Here is the photo that we took together:

Ahhh, Matt Damon… I would happily stand outside in the freezing cold for you anytime. (And that says a lot because I really can’t stand being cold.)

Close Encounters of the Celebrity Kind: Day #2

Thanks to everyone who has posted a link. I’m having so much fun reading them.
You don’t want to miss out on these great celebrity encounter stories:
- Katelin met Pacey (Joshua Jackson). I swear this girl has a celebrity magnet attached to her! She also met Ryan Gosling, in case you missed it. Lucky duck!
- Angie met one of my other crushes, River Phoenix.
- Julie met Cam Giganget and some other members of the Twilight cast.
- Shannon didn’t exactly meet Justin Timberlake but she has an awesome story about how he followed her on Twitter. MUST READ!!
- Shannon got up close and personal with the guys from NKOTB.
- Keely possesses an anti-celebrity aura. Her story of NOT meeting David Duchovny is probably funnier than if she actually had met him.
Hopefully more people will join in on the fun. If you’ve got a story to share, make sure you post your link below.
——————————————————————————————————————
Today’s celeb encounter is one of my favorites. The celebrity in question isn’t the biggest star on the planet but it was really exciting to see him for two reasons.
First of all, it was a chance encounter. For once, I wasn’t hunting down my famous prey. This time he came to me. Well, not exactly, but he was staying at the same hotel we were staying in and I didn’t even know it when I booked it.
We were in New York for the weekend in the fall of 2003. We were doing a self-guided tour of all the sights in the movie Serendipity (yes, I know I’m a huge dork). We hit the Waldorf Astoria, Central Park and of course the restaurant itself.

I thought for sure we were going to run into either Kate Beckinsale, or better yet John Cusack. Alas, we had a totally unrelated sighting that weekend.
We had just checked into our hotel and were walking through the lobby when we noticed a very familiar face walk up to the front desk.
It was none other than Rudy/Goonie/Hobbit boy himself: Sean Astin!!! I had a little crush on him way back in the day and I thought he was absolutely HILARIOUS in 50 First Dates.
Of course I started freaking out because it was a completely unexpected sighting. I was almost hyperventilating I was so excited. Luckily, my friend Kate was more calm, cool and collected. I’m guessing she probably said something like, “Girl, get it together.” I don’t remember the specifics, but the important thing is that she went up to him and asked if he would mind taking a picture with me.
He was really sweet from what I remember. There wasn’t a ton of conversation but I ended up with this photo that I will always cherish:

I thought I’d kick off the week with my most recent of celeb meetings and I am dismayed to learn that it isn’t very recent at all. It has been over 2 years!! I’m really slacking on my stalker skills as of late.
Anyway, it was a rainy morning in April of 2007. My husband (my celeb stalking partner in crime) called me to tell me that one of my favorite Idol contestants of all time, Ace Young, was in town and doing a meet and greet.
Please tell me you remember Ace. If not, let me remind you:

Ok, so clearly I liked him for reasons other than his singing voice. I thought he was really talented in the vocal department as well as being very easy on the eyes.
I know everyone was so shocked when Chris Daughtry got voted off Season 5 of Idol but I have to say I was more upset when Ace got the boot. I really thought he had a chance to go all the way. It was a travesty that he only made it to seventh place. I really expected people to take to the streets in the same fashion as the Iranian protesters, but sadly there was no show of solidarity.
When my husband called me to tell me that Ace was going to be at a nearby grocery store promoting something or another, it only took me about 2 seconds to decide that I was definitely going to be there. I jumped in my car, took my preschooler to my mom’s house and headed over to the store to see him.
When I got to the event, there were about 50 other people in line. Now, I say people, but in all honesty it was mainly girls. And when I say girls I really do mean grown women like myself who haven’t lost their inner fangirl.
As I approached the table, I started to feel really nervous. I had nothing relevant to say to the guy and I felt a little silly for being there by myself. The lady in front of me was talking about how she had met him once before and he was really nice. I watched him sign autographs and take photos and he really did seem genuinely appreciative of all the fans that showed up for him, but I still felt really awkward.
When it was finally my turn to meet him, the only words that I could manage to string together in a semi-coherent sentence was , “Um, wow, you are much taller in person.”
I’m 5 foot 6 so you can see that he really is pretty tall in the photo that they took of us:

He was really nice and I’m glad that I went to meet him. I also left with a nifty autographed photo that I have framed and hanging over my mantle. (Not true at all because I do not have a mantle.)
(Of course if Ace is reading this, it is actually on my nightstand so I can kiss him every night before going to bed.)
Now it is your turn. If you have a celeb encounter story to share, link up below and feel free to leave your link in the comments as well.
Katelin’s Close Encounter of the Celebrity Kind
School ends in a few days so I should get back to some more regular posting.
In the meantime, I have a guest poster for you. It is Katelin from Gorgeous Footsteps in the Sand.
I came across Katelin’s blog while stalking Ryan Gosling. I kept seeing posts show up in my Gos-Google Alerts talking about how she kept almost seeing him every day at work when he would walk by her office building. Finally, as luck would have it, she was able to meet him.
I’m so glad that she posted about her Gos-Encounter because if not I may have never found her blog and it is a lot of fun.
I asked her if I could share the post with you guys and she kindly obliged.
Here it is:
I finally met Ryan Gosling!!!!
So how did it finally happen you ask? Well let me tell you….
I was sitting at my desk, working away (per usual) with my headphones on and my coworker goes “Kate! Kate! He just walked by!” I, as expected, darted from my desk to the door to double check this and oh! He was right, I saw Ryan walking away with dog and a friend in tow. So I dash back to my desk, grab my purse and head down the street behind Ryan with plans to go to the coffee house down the street. I really had no idea what I was going to do or say, but I just wanted to meet him. My other coworker came out the door behind me and we walked (a little faster than normal, haha) down the street when to my surprise Ryan stopped because his cute lil mohawked dog, George, had to do his business*, haha.
So basically my coworker and I walked up to where he was as he was trying to calm his dog, haha. I sort of walked by but then stopped to pet the dog (even though I’m highly allergic to most furry creatures, haha) and started making small talk. Eventually my coworker and I introduced ourselves…well she said her name and I don’t know what I said the first time because he had to ask and then I was like “Oh right, I’m Katelin.” I couldn’t help it, I was flustered, I was talking to Noah! After I told him I was a big fan and that his dog was cute and I was surprised I wasn’t sneezing, I finally mustered up the courage to ask for a picture with him. And he was more than nice about it and suggested we move away from where his dog had pooped and then peed, haha. So we moved to the sidewalk some more and my coworker took a picture, holla. Afterwards we both told him it was nice to meet him, he said the same, and then we kept on walking to the coffee house. Well I sort of skipped, but not too much, haha. So yes Ryan is just as cute in person as you would expect, he is incredibly nice, has a super cute and very active dog, and is so down to earth it just makes him awesome. He definitely gets super cool celeb points for all of that.
Oh and here is the oh so awesome picture that I can’t wait to add to my celebrity collection, haha, woo Ryan:
le swooooon.
Oh and to add to the goodness, after my lunch I walked to the front of my office to walk back in and who was getting into his car with his friends? Yes. Ryan. Again. Two sightings in one day. Hark. Thank you celebrity gods, thank you.
*And yes for all you pet owners out there, Ryan did pick up the dog poop, just did it after we walked away, haha, such a good pet owner.
