This and That
A few things running through my mind and if your tivo didn’t record LOST or Idol last night, you may want to skip this post because there are spoilers ahead…
- I was shocked by last night’s Idol. I really thought it was going to be a Danny vs Adam finale.

I’m not saying that I think Kris is less talented or doesn’t deserve his spot because we voted for the guy a ton of times over the past few months. He’s definitely the favorite in our house, but I just thought that Danny had a huge fan base (like Adam). Now that Danny is out, I have to wonder if Kris might have real potential to actually win the whole thing. Logic says that most of Danny’s voters will be more into Kris’ style than Adam. It should be an exciting finale next week.
Who do you want to win American Idol?
- LOST is always a mindtrip, but last night’s episode totally took the cake. My favorite part-and I think maybe one of my favorite scenes ever on the show-was when they showed Bernard and Rose living a happy retired life in the jungle. I just loved how annoyed they were to see Kate, Juliet, and Sawyer show up. Then Rose has this awesome line–
“It’s always something with you people. … We traveled back 30 years in time and you’re still trying to find ways to shoot each other?
Then there was the whole unveiling of the Jacob character. I don’t know about you but I expected him to look a whole lot creepier than he did. I mean with his scary cabin in the woods and the way Ben feared him, I just expected more of a freak factor. (I’m thinking Twin Peaks or Children of the Corn freaky, not the Little House on the Prairie/Touch by an Angel/Waltons looking guy they chose.) Unless, of course he is supposed to represent God or an angel, but then why the creepy cabin in the woods? I’m so confused.

What did you think of LOST’s season finale?
- I just read the Martin Scorcese will direct “Sinatra,” a film telling Frank Sinatra’s life story. The internet is speculating that Leonardo DiCaprio will get the role and I think that would be an excellent choice (except for the fact that I’ve never heard Leo sing). I’ve also read a few plugs for Harry Connick Jr. and James Franco.

Who do you think could pull off this roll?
Idol Top 8 Highlights
In case your Tivo got cut off before the last song like ours did, I am posting Adam Lambert’s Top 8 performance (“Mad World”) here:
I’ll give Adam this-I always look forward to seeing him perform every week. He definitely knows how to work the stage and he always chooses unique songs. I know the guy is super talented, but he just isn’t one of my favorites.
Honestly, I thought the best performance of the night by far was from Matt Giraud. I don’t even like the song “Part-time Lover”, but I absolutely adored this version. Fantastic!! He better not be in the bottom three again tomorrow night. I’m voting for him as soon as I hit publish on this post.
I think Anoop, Danny and Allison all had solid performances.
Now let’s talk about Kris Allen. Before we talk about Kris, let’s just reflect on the cuteness of this Idol:

Kris is one of my favorites, so it pains me to say this. I thought “All She Wants To Do Is Dance” was a horrible song choice. What the heck was he thinking with that one? Does anyone even like that song? Why Kris, why!?!?!?!
I’m still voting for him because I think that he has proven himself in the past, and he is one of the few contestants that I would consider seeing in concert. I just love him!!
I think ‘Lil and Scott should definitely be in the bottom two. It is really hard to say who should join them at this point. I guess my choice would be Adam but I know his fans won’t let that happen.
What did you think of tonight’s Idol?
A Letter to American Idol
Dear American Idol,
Last week you announced your top 36 contestants.

I’ve just about forgiven you for leaving Jamar Rogers off this list. I’m really not sure where your head was with that one, but I guess there is still a chance we may see him on the wild card show. I hope.

Alright, let’s talk about the girls. I have to tell you that I am not thrilled with any of them. I think you wasted way too much time on Bikini Girl and the other drama queens and I just don’t really have a good sense of who the talented females are in the group.
After tonight’s performance I’m wondering if there even are talented females in the group. So Tatiana is not as awful as we thought she was, and Alexis Grace (aside from her hideous hair, makeup and outfit) did well, but otherwise I wasn’t impressed at all. I won’t even begin to discuss the trainwreck that is Casey Carlson. Let’s just say that I had to cover my eyes during much of the performance to stop her from winking at me.
But what I’m really having a difficult time with is the fact that you threw in a contestant that we never got a chance to get to know in earlier auditions and Hollywood week. Or at least I don’t remember seeing him. Because I know that I would have remembered this guy if I heard him sing.

Who is this Ricky Braddy and where did he come from? I have no idea what he sung in previous rounds because I swear this is the first time I’ve ever heard him. Why did you guys hide him from us? I really don’t understand your reasoning on this. Why waste so much time on the people who didn’t make it? It just confuses us and doesn’t let us get to know people like Ricky who really are talented.
I do have another bone to pick with you, Idol. What is the deal with the new elimination rules? Why are you only letting the top female, top male and next highest vote getter advance to the next round? Isn’t this a bit extreme? Why put so many people through if you are just going to cut them all so quickly?
There are definitely three really great male singers that performed tonight. Danny blew me away with that Mariah Carey song. I just love his raspy voice. So sexy! I have been a fan of Anoop’s since the beginning and even though he didn’t totally bring it tonight with “Angel of Mine” I still want to see him again in future rounds. Then of course we have Ricky, who we’ve already talked about. I’d really like to have the chance to get to know him a little better, but because of your new elimination rules, I may not get the chance. One of these guys isn’t going to make it and that just doesn’t seem fair.
I understand the effort to try to mix things up a bit and keep the show current, but when you lose really great people in the process it is kind of defeating the purpose.
I’d just like to ask the producers to put down Paula’s the drugs you’ve been smoking and get your head in the game again.
Thanks,
A Frustrated Fan
PS Please put Neil Patrick Harris in your audience every single night. LOVE him!!!
Idol Recap~Final 2

I’m feeling lazy tonight in the mood for a list, so I give you my Top 10 Observations from the American Idol Finals:
1. Randy thinks its 2007. Did anyone else catch that?
2. Wow! Hello, David Cook!! He looks really hot with that beard. Has he had that beard all season? If so, why am I just noticing this? Good move stylists!
3. My husband is a HUGE fan of U2 so we were on pins and needles during David C.’s Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For performance. We both thought he did the song justice. I’m sure it made Bono proud.
4. Paula needs to eat. She’s looking really skinny tonight. Too skinny.
5. The whole fighter theme just irks me. Why do they need to ruin the finale with this cheese?
6. I can’t look at Andrew Lloyd Webber anymore without thinking of the words Glamour-puss. It’s automatic word association for me now.
7. Do they keep Constantine Morales chained up in the Idol basement? WHY IS HE ALWAYS THERE???
8. David A. is trying waaayyyy too hard to keep his eyes open. I almost wish he would just close them. Its kind of creeping me out. So are all the waving hands. Make them stop!
9. David A. repeatedly looks as if he is going to pass out. He can’t even put words together to form a coherent sentence when Ryan asks him if he is ok? Even Ryan is concerned. Someone get this kid an oxygen mask.
10. As much as I like David C., I definitely think that David A. was better tonight. He made the brilliant choice to end the night with Imagine. Even if you aren’t an Archie fan, how could you not love that performance?!! HOWEVER, I do think that David C. is the better performer and should win the competition. It really could go either way.

E is for Excellent and W is for Wordpress Makes Me Drink Lots and Lots of Wine
If you tried to visit my site today and came across some Funkytown error message, I apologize. I attempted to fool around with something on my own ( Oh dear Lord would someone please cut off my hands if I ever even mention that I may be doing this again). Well, I utterly and completely WRECKED my entire blog. I swear Wordpress is out to get me. Or drive me to drink. Or both.
For the most part, it is back up and running again, but the categories section is still a mess. (Click at your own risk but be forewarned that, as of this writing, you will wind up in 404 error hell.) If anyone is a Wordpress Wizard and could advise me on how to fix this, I’d be forever and ever grateful to you. You can even have some of the wine I’m drinking tonight, but you have to act quickly because it is going fast.
Ok, on to more positive things. Last night I opened up my comments to see that Amy from Permission to Peruse had given me an award. Not just any award. It’s the highly coveted “E Is For Excellent” blogger award.
To be completely honest, I hadn’t heard of it before yesterday, but who the heck cares. It is an award and it’s MINE ALL MINE. Oh, it’s not really all mine? I’m supposed to share it? That makes it even better! I’m all about sharing the love. Well, I’ll get to that in a second.
While I’m excited to receive this, I’m still asking myself why anyone would want to give little ole me a blog award for the absolutely absurd and irrelevant things that I post. (Case in point–I’m sure the world just about stopped spinning before I posted about Jason Castro and how he would look without dreads–these are important topics, ya know). Plus now I’m feeling all kinds of pressure to say something important. Or witty. Or at least not completely dumb. Oh yeah, I’m feeling all kinds of pressure. Is this normal? (no) Am I paranoid? (yes) Anyway, I don’t want to sound ungrateful, so thank you, thank you, thank you Amy!!
Now on to the fun part. I’m supposed to pay it forward and give the award to some other deserving bloggers. Oh, this is hard. All of the blogs I read on a daily basis would be considered “excellent”. Why else would I read them? Duh!
Alright, since I can’t pick them all, here is who I’m giving the award to:
Beth at I Should Be Folding Laundry–She’s probably my favorite of my favorites. I’ve been reading her for awhile now and I have to say that I always look forward to her posts because sometimes they crack me up and sometimes they make me cry (this isn’t a bad thing, really), but they always make me smile. She’s been through a lot this year but still manages to try to keep a really positive attitude about things. I find that inspiring and uplifting. I’ll read her for as long as she decides to keep blogging.
**On a side note: Beth also just started her own blog design business that just launched TODAY!! Check it out here (there is a special sale of 50% off of all blog makeover orders received by THIS Thursday, May 15th). Because I blog with the evil, evil, EVIL Wordpress, I’m not eligible. They are only doing Blogger and Typepress for now. Damn you, Wordpress again for ruining my day!!
Amy at My Friend Amy’s Blog–Amy’s posts are always thought-provoking and well-written. She blogs about a lot of different topics, but one of her main areas of focus is on books. She is doing a Read One Book Challenge which I’m thinking that even a total slacker like me might just be able to do.
Carrie at Stop Screaming I’m Driving–I just discovered this blog and I’m really enjoying it. Carrie has a way of storytelling that is so entertaining. Definitely, check her out! Check ‘em all out. Go, on get out of here.
Wait, one more thing…while we are on the topic of awards (and because I’m way too tired to post a full Idol recap), I give the best of the night award to David Archuletta. I really thought David Cook would blow everyone away, but it just wasn’t meant to be. I really liked David A. doing My Boo. I know it wasn’t perfect and he doesn’t have the sexy edge that Chris Brown has, but I still thought he pulled it off. He’ll definitely get the teen girl vote. In the end, I’d bet my life that it is going to be an all David finale. Poor Syesha. Girl, what were you thinking with the penguin song? And if you are going to sing a penguin song, at least don’t wear black and white.
What did you think of the final three? Did you vote?

Jason Castro Without His Dreadlocks
Ever wonder what ex-Idol Jason Castro would look like without his dreads? Now you don’t have to wonder anymore. Check out these pics:

And here is one more:

So, which look do you prefer on Jason? Short hair, Medium Hair or Dreads? Leave a comment and let me know.
P.S. I kind of like the dreads, but I think he looks really good with the medium length hair.
Idol Recap–Top 5

Simon called tonight the strangest show they’ve ever done. I think I’m going to have to agree. We haven’t really had too many Paula “moments” this season, but tonight made up for the dry spell. Hearing her commentary on Jason’s second song that he hadn’t yet song was completely priceless. It was all Ryan’s fault though. He totally rocked her world when he decided to switch things up on her.
It was Neil Diamond night and I’m not a fan of his music, so my expectations were pretty low. Thank goodness, because I wasn’t jumping up and down for anyone.
Jason–I love Jason. That said, both songs were just ok. Really nothing special. The judges thought that he wasn’t trying to wow us and I have to agree.
David C.–His first song was pretty forgettable, but I really loved the second one. Paula said that she felt like she was already looking at the American Idol and I agree.
Brooke–Her first song was “I’m a Believer”. I didn’t know that Neil Diamond had anything to do with this song. I love this song! I did not love Brooke doing this song. She really should try not to move when she sings. The poor girl has no rhythm at all. I’m going to have to agree with Simon that it was a complete nightmare. What was she thinking? Thankfully, she totally redeemed herself with the second song even with the cheesy “Arizona” line. I thought she looked really pretty tonight.
David A.–Well you have to give the guy credit for attempting the two most popular of Neil Diamond’s songs. I preferred “Comin to America” over “Sweet Caroline” , but I really didn’t love either performance. I think I may be over him.
Syesha– Alright, enough already with the bare feet. What is the purpose of that? Her second song was way better than the first, but I still feel like her problem is that she oversells the song. She doesn’t need to be so theatrical all the time.
The two that didn’t completely annoy me were Jason and David C. My guess is that Brooke or Syesha will go home. I’d be happy saying goodbye to either one of them.

American Idol Recap-Final 6
Tonight is Andrew Lloyd Weber night. Is he a Sir? I think he is. So it is Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber night. That means songs from his musicals. I’m going to start out by saying that I’m not a huge fan of this genre. It could be because the closest thing I have actually seen to a Broadway musical were the plays from high school (and as good as they seemed back then, I’m sure that they weren’t really all that good).
Here is my take on tonight’s performances:
Syesha–One Rock and Roll Too Many–She looks really pretty, but I’m just not down with the bare feet. My husband said it was because she didn’t want to wipe out coming down from the platform. I think that would have added to the performance. Not that I’d want to see any blood or anything, but I’m just not a huge fan. The judges seemed to like it, but I wasn’t overly wowed.
Jason–Memories Have I mentioned that he’s my favorite? He picked probably the most well known song of all from the musical Cats. I love when he said that he didn’t know a cat sung the song. He cracks me up! It definitely wasn’t his strongest performance, but he just has a way of singing any song that makes my heart melt. Uh oh, the judges didn’t like him. Guess I better get voting so he stays another week.
Brooke-You Must Love Me–Yikes! She started the song, messed up and had to start over again. Not good. Didn’t she do that earlier in the season and the judges liked it? They better really rip into her this time. What??!! Only Paula gave her a little slap on the wrist and Simon/Randy defended her. You’ve got to be kidding me! Poor Paula. For once she tries to be mean and no one backs her up. I think Brooke will probably be in the bottom three tomorrow.
David A–Think of Me–Wow, that kid can sing!! I don’t know the song and I didn’t really love the song (I kind of agree with Simon that it was forgettable), but he really did well with it. I loved it!! I love him!
Carly-Jesus Christ Superstar–I actually forgot she was still in the competition. That’s a bad thing, right? Well, she started off with a different song, but Sir Andrew cut her off and told her to do her second choice-Jesus Christ Superstar. I don’t like the song. (Please note–I do like Jesus, just not the song) I really didn’t like this performance. It just sounded shrieky to me. The t-shirt at the end was cute and may actually get her some votes. I doubt she’ll go home tomorrow. Oh and I’m glad she wore sleeves. Sleeves are good.
David C.-The Music of the Night–This was probably my favorite performance of the night. It wasn’t his best performance to date, but it was quite good for what it was. It kind of shocked me that he did so well with this fluff, since he is a serious rocker and all. But he really pulled off. I think he is the one to beat in this competition.
I think that Brooke, Syesha and Carly will be in the bottom three. I am a little worried that it could be Jason, but I voted 10 times for him, so that should keep him safe. I think it will be Brooke that goes home. That will mean we’ll have to see a montage of her and that weird thing she does with her lips. It is really starting to pluck my nerves, so I hope that it is her that goes home.
Overall, the night was just eh. I’m still not a big fan of musical songs. Sorry (insert snotty English accent here for the full effect).
Head on over to Boomama’s to see what everyone else thought of tonight’s Idol.
American Idol Recap
Tonight’s Idol was all Mariah Carey songs. I like some of her songs, but I haven’t been a big fan of her ever since she and her husband split up and she started dressing like a prostitute. I mean what was the deal with her outfit??!! I’m not sure that would be flattering on anyone. Anyway, let’s get to it. Here’s my take on the night:
1. David A– I didn’t recognize the song, but as usual he sounded fantastic. The beginning was a little rough, but it really was a super ending. I could totally see him bringing Christian/Inspirational music to mainstream.
2. Carly–First off, she looked so pretty tonight. Gosh, I totally sound like Paula. Now for the bad news. I just didn’t care for this performance. It is almost as if her singing makes me feel tired. Her songs are always so over the top. She has a lot of talent, but I just don’t think she has quite found herself yet as an artist.
3. Syesha–I did like her performance, but I didn’t love it. There is just something about her that screams fake to me. I wish she could just be a little more down to earth.
4. Brooke–Like Carly, Brooke looked very pretty tonight. But also like Carly, she didn’t completely impress me tonight. It was just ayight (sp?) to me.
5. Kristy–I have to admit that I kind of wanted to see her mess up a little. Well, she once again was able to pull it off and I must say that she did a really good job tonight. I’m not a big fan of country, but I like what she does with the songs.
6. David C.–This was a risky move, but it completely paid off. He was unbelievable! I love that song and his version was so unique and interesting. I totally thought the same thing as Paula about the movie soundtrack thing.
7. Jason–As usual, he was my favorite of the night. Again, this was totally original and it had a such a great sound. My husband actually compared it to George Michael’s ”Careless Whisper”. I would actually buy his music and I’m not sure that I can say the same for the other contestants. How cute was the part when Mariah gave him a melody suggestion and he said “I loved it.” Such a cutie! Oh and the comment about the luau–I agree with Paula–I’d LOVE to be at that luau listening to him all night long too.
Edited to add: I think it will be Syesha, Carly and Brooke in the bottom 3 tomorrow. I’m thinking Carly will go home, but it may be Brooke. I’m just hoping it isn’t another shocker like last week.
