Monday Mentions: Becks Edition
I was so excited that one of my favorite bloggers–Carol from Siswick Construction Zone–decided to resurrect her blog for 2010. I’ve always enjoyed her posts and am glad to see she is back.
I am pretty sure that I’m not the only one who is glad to see that Carol is back to blogging. I’m thinking that David Beckham is also a loyal reader. Yet, he may have been a little distressed about one of her recent posts about him.
Carol wrote this clever post about how Becks is purposely trying to repel women with his hideous new haircut and beard (and you know I’m a fan of the beard, but yuck) and he must have read it, because he retaliated BIG TIME.
Check out these delicious photos of him taking his shirt and pants off in the middle of the soccer game:
50,000,000 points for Beckham!!!
The only thing that is a bit distracting about this picture is the Jesus tattoo. I like a little less Son of God when I’m fantasizing about licking his rock hard abs. It sort of ruins the mood for me.
Monday Mentions (with retro GosWatch)
Hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas!
I’ve been trying to stay off the computer as much as possible this week so I don’t have much to share in the way of links.
Luckily my good friend and a fellow Gos-lover sent me a gem of a clip that is a total blast from Ryan’s past and I couldn’t resist posting it on here. It is from Ryan’s days on the cheesy teen drama Breaker High. The clip is only about one minute long–just push play and it will cue up to the right part (about 3:15).
WARNING: You may want to sit down and get out some crackers to snack on while you are watching this because there is a plethora of cheese in this clip.
Ok, so let’s discuss.
I find myself on the fence. I’m having this internal debate with myself. Part of me is completely in awe of his sexy dance moves and confidence. This part of me wishes he would snap his finger at me and slide his way into my bedroom wearing that pimp hat. Then the other part wants to scrape my eyeballs to try and erase this dreadful image of Ryan from my mind.
Where do you stand on this controversial issue? Young, slick, dancing Ryan–hot or not?

I’ve never been more glad to have it be Monday in my entire life. Our heat broke on Saturday morning and the part we needed to fix it wasn’t available until today. I’ve spent the weekend alternating between finishing up my last school project of the semester (PRAISE THE LORD) and trying not to freeze to death.
So, I’m going to make this quick and then go hibernate back underneath the covers (these are the days that I wish I hadn’t laughed at the Snuggie…I would be so much more productive if I had one of those nifty things right about now).
- You know how everyone is making those Best of 2009 year-end lists. Well this one is by far my favorite!!
- One of my favorite blogs is You Just Made My List…He’s grumpy and says a lot of 4-letter words but he cracks me up regularly. Maybe I was just in a giddy mood (due to lack of heat) but this post made me laugh until I cried.
- It’s official. Hollywood is completely out of fresh ideas. I just read that they are once again remaking a classic tv show. Enough already!!
- Finally, in case you may have been up all night tossing and turning, wondering and worrying, let me reassure you….Ryan Gosling is still hot.
If you have any Monday Mentions to share, leave them in the comments.
And real quick before I get back to my own personal hell of grad school work and freezing to death, guess who my friend Kate and I saw while out shopping last week? Let me give you a hint…
Michael Phelps!!! Although I’m not sure why I’m adding the exclamation points as it wasn’t all that exciting. We were in Starbucks and he was there wearing a hoodie, trying not to be noticed. Honestly, doesn’t that draw more attention to you? Anyway, we tried to snap a photo with Kate’s camera phone but it didn’t work, so you’ll just have to take my word for it. Or just stare at the picture above instead because that is way better anyway.

- My husband just introduced me to Straight No Chaser and I am totally LOVING their Christmas music. They are an A cappella group that has completely knocked my socks off! They seriously sound like angels to me. They are well worth checking out if you haven’t heard them yet!
- While we are on the topic of music, this is pretty amazing too! Just make sure you read the “more info” blurb to learn the story behind this score. If this is totally old and I am the last person on the internet to see this then I apologize.
- This New Moon parody made me laugh. The worst part is that it is so funny because it is SO TRUE!!
- Speaking of the truth, if you read one post about Tiger Woods and his indiscretions this is the one you should read.
- Finally, I am hosting a book giveaway this week that you don’t want to miss! Go here to enter to win!
As always, I invite you to leave a link to your Monday Mentions post in the comment. I love seeing all the cool things you all have to share.

- If you need a good laugh (and who doesn’t, right?) then you absolutely have to check out Yahoo! Answer Fail blog. I was laughing so hard that my kids came into the room and asked me what was so funny. Unfortunately, most of the subject matter is not exactly appropriate for a younger audience, but you have to check out the absurdity of these questions and answers. This is one of my favorites. I have a theory–I’m thinking that the People of Walmart are the same people that write in to ask these questions. Good stuff!
- Speaking of absurdity….oh Fox News, you really need to get someone to check your pie charts before putting them on the air. I may not be a math whiz, but I’m pretty there is something a little off about this graph .
- GosWatch–Ryan has been keeping a pretty low profile since his birthday extravaganza at Disneyland. I’ve been going through some serious withdrawals wondering what he has been up to, who he is spending his time with (please, oh please let it be Rachel) and missing his beautiful face. Luckily, this past weekend I got a quick fix in the way of some new photos and a diary entry from his days at the Dead Man’s Bones puppet show. You really need to see the pictures that accompanies this post. If you don’t click, you will be so sorry. Seven words: RYAN GOSLING PAINTING IN A TANK TOP!!
- I love the photos that got leaked of Katie Couric getting down at a party. I know this is a bit out of character for a serious news anchor, but good for her for getting her groove on.
- Speaking of serious journalists, this interview with Taylor Lautner cracked me up! I’m quite certain that if someone gave me a microphone, camera and told me to ask cute boys questions I would have just as hard of a time staying professional.
- Ok, this next mention will not be for everyone so proceed with an open mind or just skip this one. A few weeks ago, I had an angel card reading done by Sassy Pants Freckle Face. This is similar to a tarot card reading but she used a set of cards that bring only messages of love, peace and hope. I’ve never heard of this type of reading before so I was curious and open to hear what she had to say. Well, she totally blew me away with her words of wisdom and encouragement. I was shocked by some of the details that she was able to give me about things going on in my life that I haven’t yet written about on this blog or even told some of my closest friends. I went into it pretty open, but I have to admit that there was some skepticism. I left the experience a complete believer. I wish I could say more but I can’t just yet. It was a really neat experience. If this sounds like something you might be interested in, please contact Sassy.
- This little tidbit totally made my weekend! Jeff and Jordan (from last season’s Big Brother) are still dating and rumored to be competing on the next season of The Amazing Race. This is brilliant casting on CBS’s part. The two of them were adorable on Big Brother this summer. This got me thinking about my favorite Amazing Race /Reality show couple of all time– Rob and Amber. I started wondering what they were up to and found out they had a baby (this is old news as it happened this past summer) and that Rob is rumored to be in Survivor 20: Heroes vs Villains. Now, I haven’t watched Survivor for like 10 seasons but I would definitely tune in for this. Check out the complete rumored cast list here.
- Finally, I just wanted to pass along this great opportunity to get involved in World Aids Day. On Tuesday, December 1st, Starbucks will donate five (5) cents for every hand-crafted beverage sold at participating stores in the U.S. and Canada to the Global Fund to help fight the AIDS epidemic in Africa. If you aren’t able to make it to Starbucks on WAD, you can still be a part of the fight against AIDS by visiting www.starbucksloveproject.com. Check it out!

I’ve been working on a grad school project all this week so my web-surfing time has been severely limited.
I did manage to catch Joseph Gordon Levitt on SNL this past week and I just had to share my my favorite skit–the Say Anything parody:
Now it is your turn. What did you find this week that was worth mentioning? Leave a comment with your link.

- If you are not already reading Michael Ian Black’s blog, check out this post. It cracked me up!
- I loved this post from McMommy on the two best baby shower gifts ever. I really do think that expecting thank you notes from new moms should be outlawed forever.
- Speaking of things that should be illegal…check out Stop Making That Duckface. Who determined that this look was attractive? (Thanks to my friend Shelie for sending me the link to this site.)
- If you are a mom of an older baby/toddler still in a crib, you should read Shannon’s brilliant idea for how to get a few extra zzzzz’s in the morning.
- You really should check out this AMAZING post from Jen on the topic of real beauty. It is a must read and definitely some food for thought on the topic.
- Who’s excited about James Franco’s General Hospital guest appearance??? Me!!!!! He starts this Friday. Here’s the totally cheesetastic teaser promo. I have a theory that he must have been high on something when he agreed to take this part, but I’m glad that he did! (I am actually even more excited to see that Jonathan Jackson has reprised his role of Lucky Spencer on the show!! I pretty much lost interest in the show when he “died” in that fire. None of the other Luckys that they cast had ever come close to his level of AWESOME!! )
- New Moon is just days away people!!! Do you believe it!?!?! If you are a Twilight fan, you most definitely will want to read about Katelin’s encounter with the cast of New Moon. I’m so jealous but also incredibly happy for her!!
- Speaking of New Moon, I’m planning a special New Moon Movie Madness party this weekend (similar to the one I had for Twilight last year.) Basically, just see the movie and then come back here to discuss it. You can also link up with your own review and then mingle around to the different blogs to meet fellow Twi-fans. Sound fun? Good, hope to see you back here on Friday. In the meantime, help me to spread the word:

Here’s something sure to make you feel really old…the movie Say Anything is celebrating its 20 year anniversary.
Want to feel even older? Three Men and a Baby stars are reuniting for a new movie…wait for it… Three Men and a Bride.
I just hope that creepy ghost doesn’t make an appearance again.
(If you missed out on the coming of age experience of renting this video tape just to catch a glimpse of this ghost, then you must go here to watch it (look a the window around 0:34 seconds) and then go here to read the explanation.)
I was on the fence about getting the H1N1 vaccine but then I read this article and my decision is made up. We are taking our chances and skipping it.
If I’m not dead from Swine flu by this Friday, I know exactly what I will be doing. Watching Stephenie Meyer talk about Twilight on Oprah. Set your Tivos!!
Remember this post where I shamefully admitted that I liked the Miley song “Party in the USA”. Yeah, well check this out…she admits in this video that she has never heard a Jay-Z song. WTF?? Then she says she doesn’t like pop music. Again, WTF??? Does she not realize that she sings pop music?!?! Here’s the problem…even after knowing what an idiot she is, I can’t help but still love that damn song. It is just so catchy!!
Disney has now opened up booking for their newest ship, the Dream, online. I may have to physically restrain myself from making a reservation for our family. It looks AMAZING!! Check out the Aqua Duck, the very first water coaster at sea.
Did you see the news that a new ocean may be forming in the most unlikely of places: the Ethiopian desert. I got really excited until I read that it would take anywhere from 100,000 to a half a million years to appear. This news also made me remember one of my favorite comedy bits of all time–Sam Kinison on World Hunger.
Since I’m feeling a little bad for laughing at that last link, I’ve decided to bring back Make a Difference Monday this week to ease some of my guilt. I think this is a fabulous idea and I am going to go through my coats today:
Lands’ End has joined forces with the National Coalition for the Homeless for the Big Warm-up. The Big Warm-up provides an opportunity for people across the nation to donate a gently used coat that will then go on to warm one of more than 3.5 million homeless women, men and children in the United States right now – each facing a cold winter.
Beginning October 29 until November 30, Lands’ End is hosting Big Warm-up coat donation sites at its 252 Lands’ End Shops at Sears and 13 Lands’ End Inlets®. Donated coats will be distributed via the National Coalition for the Homeless in communities nearby. To further encourage donations, Lands’ End is giving 20 percent off the purchase of a new coat for each one donated.
Visit WWW.BIGWARMUP.COM to see how each coat can warm a heart, track donations, find donation sites, watch an inspiring video and spread the word.

- I’m loving The Office this season so far. First, we had the best wedding in the history of TV weddings EVER!!! It was probably one of the sweetest things I’ve ever seen. It is hard to top such greatness, and I can’t say that this latest video could ever do that, but I did get a kick out of this new girl group called Subtle Sexuality (with Kelly Kapoor and Erin Hannon, featuring ‘Nard Dog and introducing Mr. Understood-Ryan). Go and check it out on their website.
- Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s Halloween costumes cracked me up. Of all the costumes, Brad chose to be the DJ guy from Yo Gabba Gabba. How funny!! I’m guessing it is because his kids like the show (at least that is what I’m hoping). Angie got into the Halloween spirit to0 by spraying her hair gray and rubbing fake blood on her face (at least we hope it is fake blood). You have to see it for yourself!
- So I promised my kids that on November 1st I would take out my Dead Man’s Bones cd (sniff, sniff) because they were so tired of me playing it over and over again in the car. Ha–the jokes on them!! I switched it out for the New Moon soundtrack!! So now they get a full month of depressing, teen angsty music so that mommy can get herself ready for the next installment of Edward and Bella’s beautiful love story. I mean seriously, can you believe it??? New Moon is only18 DAYS AWAY!!!! As for the soundtrack, so far I’m really enjoying it so far. It is actually a good transition from Dead Man’s Bones. The sound is actually a little similar in some of the songs. You can listen to it here for free if you haven’t already gotten your copy.
- Speaking of Twilight goodness, before you click on the next link I need you to make sure you are sitting down and have taken a nice deep breath. I am not responsible for any injuries you may sustain when you view this photo. This magazine cover of Robert Pattinson that Sue posted yesterday nearly took my breath away. He is absolutely gorgeous. You can see all the photos here if you can stand it.
