Friday Eye Candy: My Most Anticipated Movies of 2010 (Part 1)
I’m going on record in saying that 2010 is going to be a great year for movies. Do I have any basis for making this prediction? Absolutely not. I’m just super excited about a ton of movies that are due out this year. So without further adieu here is Part 1 of a list of MY most anticipated movies of 2010.
1. Blue Valentine
Ok, let’s just get this over with. You know this one is going to be number one. Ryan has two movies coming out this year (All Good Things and Blue Valentine) but this is the one I’m most looking forward to. It is being described as “an intimate, shattering portrait of a disintegrating marriage” . In other words, this means that I’m going to have to bribe Brad to see it with me because my own marriage will disintegrate if I make him sit through one more depressing, indie G0s-film without the promise of sexual favors.
Seriously though, I will be there on opening night to see this movie for this scene alone:
SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!!!
2. Inception
I know most people are excited about seeing this movie because of the director (blah, blah, blah, Christopher Nolan from The Dark Knight, blah, blah, blah). That’s all fine, well and good, but here are my two reasons for wanting to see this movie:
And as an added bonus, I found this Leo kissing scene. You all may remember that I believe that he is the best kisser in the universe (sorry Ryan, but I’m pretty sure that Leo has you beat in this department).
If you want further proof on Leo’s kissing skills, see this video.
3. Eat, Pray, Love
I loved the book and I know I should prepare myself for the worst. Most of the time they destroy the story when they try to bring it to the screen (ahem…Twilight/New Moon…ahem), but I’m still remaining optimistic about this one.
And if they really ruin it, hopefully the travel eye candy will make up for whatever damage is done. I’m especially looking forward to taking the trip to Italy, India and Indonesia with Elizabeth (Julia Roberts) and seeing the absolutely breathtaking scenery since I’ve yet to travel to any of these places myself.
And it doesn’t hurt that Javier Bardem, Billy Crudup and James Franco are in it either.
Ok, I need to go for now, but stay tuned for part 2 of this list coming soon….
What movies are you looking forward to this year?
My Favorite Movies of the Decade
Ok, before I show you my list of my favorite movies from 2000-2009, I have to tell you about the movie that we just watched last night.
I’m one of those people that goes into any animated film automatically hating it because it is a “cartoon”. Even as a child, I’ve never liked cartoons. I tolerated Bugs Bunny and The Flintstones. I’m not sure what my beef is with animation, but it just isn’t my favorite genre of movie.
That said, I absolutely LOVED the movie Up.
If you haven’t watched it yet, please do yourself a favor and see it. It was a beautiful movie that was surprisingly romantic, pretty funny in parts and visually stunning. Just a warning, make sure you have box of tissues close by. I’m not sure if I was feeling extra emotional or hormonal, but I cried like a baby during this movie.
I’d almost say it was my favorite movie of the year, but since it is animated I just can’t bring myself to do it. I’m pretty stubborn like that.
Here are my favorite movies this decade (i.e. the list that would make the critics cringe):
2000–Meet the Parents
2001–Serendipity
2002–Catch Me if You Can
2003–Love Actually
2004–The Notebook
2005–Walk the Line
2006–Blood Diamond
2007–Lars and the Real Girl
2008–Juno
2009–(500) Days of Summer
And my favorite movie of the decade was……..
drumroll…..
Not that it will come as any surprise to anyone….
The Notebook
What was your favorite movie of the decade? What movie are you most looking forward to in 2010?
Coming soon….stay tuned for my list of most anticipated movies of 2010.
New Moon Review: The Good, The Bad, The Ugly
I’m going to write this review in bullet points because paragraphs seem way too daunting after only getting three hours of sleep. What the hell was I thinking going to a midnight show?!!
SPOILER ALERT!! There will be spoilers in my review so if you’ve never read the books or haven’t seen the movie yet, be sure to skip this post.
The Good:
- K-Stew was slightly less annoying in this movie. She toned down her nervous ticks some and stopped biting her damn lip (still caught a few bites, but no where near as many as Twilight). And she looked so pretty in some scenes. It was definitely more like how I pictured Bella in the book.
- I liked the look of this movie waaayyyyy better than Twilight. The weird bluish/gray/MTV / CW cameras that they used for Twilight drove me insane. I was glad to see that they were gone and they hired a real cinematographer.
- The vampire makeup was less of a distraction in this movie, but I’m still thinking there is room for improvement in this area. The vampires were definitely very pale in NM. I remember thinking at one point that the people in Forks are complete idiots for not realizing that the Cullens are vampires. I mean they looked ghastly at times!!
- I thought they did a pretty good job depicting the October, November, December blank pages. That was one of my favorite parts in the book and I was hoping they would figure out a way to include it somehow. I also teared up a bit when Bella had her nightmares, so good job K-stew, on the screaming.
- I LOVED the music!! Whoever is in charge of choosing the songs for the movie needs to win an award of some sort. It is a great soundtrack and I thought the songs worked very well with the scenes. SPOILER: I especially loved the scene where Bella jumps off the cliff and is under the water with dream Edward. The music was so haunting and perfect for that scene.
- I thought Jacob and Bella had AMAZING chemistry!!! I think I may be a bit Team Jacob after watching this movie!!!
- On that note, I would also like to praise the director for including so many shirtless scenes of Taylor Lautner. God, how many more days until the boy turns 18? This is just so wrong! The girl I went to see the movie with has a 17 year old son so she was horrified at all my “oohs” and “ahs” over Taylor. Sorry, but I’m only human and he is HOT!! And while we are at it, I enjoyed the entire wolf pack–all incredibly cute and likable. Can’t wait for more scenes with them in future movies!!
- All of the werewolf scenes were INCREDIBLE!!! I loved the way they changed from human to wolf. I thought the wolves were totally realistic looking and I enjoyed the facial expressions. Slamdunk on the special effects, New Moon crew!!
- I think my favorite scene was the end with Bella saving Edward at the clocktower. It was exactly how I pictured it in the book (if not better). When she falls into his cold, hard arms and he says “Heaven?” –LOVED it!!
- I thought that they got the Volturi right. I didn’t have a clear picture of them in my mind so I enjoyed seeing their characters come to life on screen. They were creeptasticly AWESOME!! And that scene with the tourists going into the chamber and screaming was chilling!
The Bad:
- I wasn’t feeling Edward in this movie AT ALL!! I can’t put my finger on the exact reason for my lack of enthusiasm. It may have been the new contacts. Honestly, I think I liked his Twilight eyes better. He just didn’t seem as dreamy to me in this movie. Is that what the director was going for since they were trying to build up Jacob? Maybe. I’m also questioning Rob as Edward now. I feel so terrible saying that, but he just didn’t have that same, for the lack of a better word, Edward-ness about him as he did in the first movie. Obviously he doesn’t have as many scenes in this movie, but I didn’t feel like he really captivated me in the scenes that he was in. Please don’t shoot me for criticizing Rob. I love him, but I think he may need some better direction on where to go with this character.
- Not enough Cullen family! Not enough Cullen family!!! I guess this is just a by-product of the book, but that leads me to my next complaint.
- Do they really need to follow the book exactly as it was written? I just felt like (and I felt similar after watching Twilight) that it was just a collection of scenes thrown together without a real cohesive feel to it. It was like they had this checklist of things to include from the book and they worked so hard to get it right that they missed the mark on creating something truly amazing. I mean I LOVED the books, but I think I’d be ok with them adding some things or changing some things if it still made sense and it made the movie BETTER!! For example, I loved the little added touches that they threw into Twilight at the Cullen’s house. Couldn’t they have added a few more Cullen scenes even if they weren’t in the book? Or is Stephenie Meyer that protective of her “baby” and wouldn’t allow it?
- There just wasn’t enough chemistry between Edward and Bella. Again, I know that Edward isn’t in most of the movie, but I just didn’t feel any sparks between Kristen and Rob when they were together. This is a HUGE thing since that is the basis of the entire story. Hopefully, the third time’s a charm and they will get it right in Eclipse. (Please God, let them get it right!!)
The Ugly
- There was just this overall cheesiness that brought the movie down in my opinion. I don’t know if it was the lines they were given that just don’t translate as well on screen as they do in the book, but there were so many parts that I felt embarrassed for everyone involved. I can’t name a scene in particular, but it was just the overall acting, dialogue, and feel of the movie.
I’m going to give the movie a C+. It had a lot going for it, but it once again missed the mark for me. At this point, I’m pretty sure that Eclipse will be more of the same and I’m feeling a bit sad about that since this was probably my favorite book in the saga (after Twilight). Hopefully, I’m wrong and they will BRING IT, but I’m doubtful.
Ok, that is all I can think of for now, but I plan on chiming in on the other New Moon discussion this weekend. So, please be sure to add your two cents over at the New Moon Movie Madness post. Click the button to go there now:
New Moon Movie Madness
It is 3:00 am and I just got back from seeing New Moon. I’ll write up a full review tomorrow because I’m just a tad bit EXHAUSTED!! In the meantime, I just wanted to put this post up so that we would have a central gathering place to share our thoughts on the movie.

- Did you like it better than the book?
- Do you think it was better than the Twilight movie?
- What were your favorite/least favorite parts?
- K-Stew–More or less annoying in this movie?
- R-Pattz–More or less hot in this movie?
- Will you see it again?
- What are your feelings about Jacob and Bella’s chemistry?
- Did you feel as guilty as I did about drooling over a shirtless 17 year old ? (Please say yes!!)
Leave your thoughts in the comments. Even better, if you wrote up your own post, please leave a link to your review in the comments as well.
If you decide to participate, please mention the Movie Madness Carnival in your post and link back this post here at Daily Mish Mash. Feel free to grab the banner for your site if you’d like.
[A little reminder about spoilers…I think it goes without saying that you don’t want to include spoilers in your post. If you must include them, please give fair warning that you are doing so by putting a bold MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS at the beginning of the post.]
That’s about it! I can’t wait to read what everyone thought of New Moon!
GosWatch: The Shirt Off His Back Edition
I interrupt your Saturday with a little weekend GosWatch.
So, you know me and my OGD (Obsessive Gosling Disorder). I like to analyze the photos in question until I can suck every last bit of information I can from them.
Let’s take a look and see what we can learn from this sighting?
Photo #1:

What we can learn from this photo:
Ryan shaved his head again!!!! We learn that buzz cuts are so sexy! What do you think?
Photo #2:

What we can learn from this photo:
The gas container is a huge clue into his life. I’m just not sure what it means.
I’d like to think that Ryan has a lawn mower and cuts his own grass. Let’s just close our eyes and picture that for a moment. Sigh. Was he shirtless in your mind too?
Another possible explanation for the gas container may be a go-cart but that is totally not as sexy. I picture Jon Gosselin riding a go-cart. Yuck. I need to get that image out of my mind as quickly as possible. Quick, we need another photo!
Update: Oops, just read the story on JustJared and found out that he was actually filling up the gas can for a friend who’s car ran out of gas. While this is really nice and everything, I actually liked the lawn boy image that I had in my mind so I will just pretend that I never read that and carry on with my fantasies.
Photo#3

What we can learn from this photo:
Muscles…jeans…pumping…muscles….I don’t know…my brain is mush at this point.
Photo #4:

What we can learn from this photo:
Ryan has a heart of gold and would give the shirt off his back if someone asked for it.
[Note to self: When meeting Ryan, pose as homeless person and ask him for his shirt.]
I kind of wish he would have given the guy his shoes, though. They are getting out of control with their scuffiness.

Did I miss anything? Can we learn anything else from this Gos-sighting? Or is your brain mush too?
Friday Eye Candy: The Wish List
I’ve enjoyed looking back at my own past celebrity encounters, as well as reading your stories. Thanks to everyone who shared their links.
As most of you know, I’m a big believer in The Secret so I thought I’d create a little vision board of the celebs that I most want to meet.
What is a vision board you ask? Well, it is a visualization tool (kind of like a collage) where you post pictures to help you attract what you are most wanting to bring into your life.
I’ve never made one before so I can’t say whether or not it works, but I figure I’ve got nothing to lose so I’ll give it a try.
Jen’s Most Wanted Celebrity Encounter Vision Board
Ryan Gosling (well, duh…you knew he was going to be #1)

James McAvoy

Rachel McAdams (Preferably with the aforementioned Gosling)

Leonardo DiCaprio

Kate Winslet

Robert Pattinson

Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson (my current favorite celeb couple)

Paul Rudd

Now Paul Rudd is a recent addition. I’ve added him because he is filming a movie in DC (with Reese Witherspoon and Owen Wilson) and I am planning to do a little stalking this weekend. Hopefully, I will come back with a new photo to add to my collection.

- If you had the opportunity to have a dinner party and invite 3 famous people (living or dead) who would be your guests?
And because I really want to do something to pay tribute to Michael Jackson, I’d love to know–
- What is your favorite MJ song or memory?

Friday Eye Candy: Hot Wet Gemini Edition
It’s Friday (well, almost as I type this) and since I’m having trouble keeping my head above water with all the end of the school year madness, baseball make-up games and working full-time, I am really ready for my weekly dose of eye candy.
This week I have three themes going on.
- Hot men.
- Hot men who just so happen to be wet.
- Hot, wet men who are also Geminis.
Gemini, the sign of the Twins, is dual-natured, elusive, complex and contradictory. On the one hand it produces the virtue of versatility, and on the other the vices of two-facedness and flightiness. The sign is linked with Mercury, the planet of childhood and youth, and its subjects tend to have the graces and faults of the young. When they are good, they are very attractive; when they are bad they are more the worse for being the charmers they are. Like children they are lively, and happy, if circumstances are right for them, or egocentric, imaginative and restless. They take up new activities enthusiastically but lack application, constantly needing new interests, flitting from project to project as apparently purposelessly as a butterfly dancing from flower to flower. To them life is a game which must always be full of…..
blah, blah, blah….Let’s just get to the WET MEN ALREADY!!
Lenny Kravitz (Born 5/26/64)

Jesse Bradford (born 5/28/79)
(Note: This won’t be the last you see of Jesse on Friday Eye Candy. He needs a post all to himself.)

Colin Farrell (Born 5/31/76)

Mark Wahlberg (Born 6/5/71)

Johnny Depp (Born 6/9/63)

I have no idea what is going on in Depp’s pants, but I’m not complaining.
Shane West (Born 6/10/81)

Shia LaBeouf (Born 6/11/86)

(Courtesy of An Island Life Blog.)
- Who is your favorite wet Gemini?
- Are you planning any summer trips? If so, where are you going?

He’s Just Not That Into You
When I was 13, I was in love with a boy named Rick.
He lived around the corner from me and from the moment I laid eyes on him I was immediately smitten. I devised schemes on how to get him to notice me. I made up a lost cat sign with my phone number and put it in his door. I don’t even think I had a cat at the time. Maybe I did, but it really didn’t matter because it wasn’t lost. These were just the things you did to get a guy to notice you before myspace, facebook and texting.
While I was on his porch I may have stolen a gum wrapper as a souvenir (because I was a crazy, psycho stalker even at a young age).
When the lost cat sign failed to produce results, I tried a new tactic. Every day after school I would poof my bangs to the appropriate late 80’s height and then take my dog for walks around the block just so I could pass his house (highly unusual behavior since I normally just ignored the dog).
Finally, he took notice (thank goodness because I ran out of pets) and we had one solid month where we “went out”. The furthest we went was his backyard. Oh and second base.
Out of nowhere (or when he realized that he wasn’t getting any further), he stopped calling. I didn’t give up on him though. I spent the rest of 8th grade trying to “win” him back. Obviously it didn’t work. When you have to try to make a guy like you, it pretty much means that he just isn’t that into you.
I’m thankful for Rick because he taught me that valuable lesson at a very young age. By the time 9th grade summer rolled around and I stopped getting calls from Greg, it still hurt but I didn’t bother to continue wishing and waiting. (Ok so I may have continued to stalk him when he worked at the mall throughout high school, but I didn’t really stop everything for him.)
Why am I telling you these ridiculously embarrassing stories?
I was lucky enough to score passes to an advanced screening of the movie He’s Just Not That Into You.

I’ll start by saying that I really liked the movie. I took a friend and we both gave it a solid B+.
Without spoiling it for anyone, here are my thoughts in bullet points:
- The movie was perfectly cast. I thought each actor/actress brought a lot to their role and I especially loved the performance of Ginnifer Goodwin, who played the lovable stalker Gigi. She balanced the crazy with the sweet and in the end you just can’t help but root for her.

- Ensemble movies (especially those made up of so many big stars) have the tendency to flop. I am pleased to say that this is not the case with He’s Just Not That Into You. It reminded me a lot of Love Actually, When Harry Met Sally and Sex in the City, and although it did copy a bit from these movies, I thought it had its own unique appeal.
- One of the biggest complaints I had with the movie was the length. At almost two hours and ten minutes, it just felt a bit long at times. There were some scenes in the middle that I think could have probably been cut and it wouldn’t have taken too much away from the character/plot development.
- On a positive note, my aversion to Ben Affleck has diminished a bit. Initially, when his face came on the screen I flinched, gagged and wanted to throw popcorn at the screen. This is my typical Affleck-reaction. I don’t know what it is, but there is something about him that just disturbs me. (I may or may not still be holding a grudge about Bennifer part 1–I know I need to move on). Well, I am pleased to report that he has dug himself out of a hole a bit.

- Drew Barrymore wasn’t in the movie as much as the trailer makes her out to be. I’m not really complaining about this, just stating a fact. Depending on your love of Drew, this may be a good or bad thing. For me, it was the perfect amount of Barrymore.
- I want to state for the record, right here on this blog that I would switch teams for Scarlett Johansson in a heartbeat. She is just sexy. Period.
- This movie is a bit predictable in spots but I wouldn’t say this is necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes it is ok to just give the audience what they want. All movies don’t have to contain shocking, depressing or confusing plot twists (Do you hear me Coen brothers?). I just think it is nice to leave a movie and actually feel good about what you just watched instead of scratching (or wanting to put a bullet through) your head.
- Justin Long is strangely attractive in this movie. I can’t decide if it was just his character or maybe it is him. I will have to ponder this a bit more and get back to you.

- I found myself cursing John Mayer under my breath throughout certain scenes in the movie. Why? Well, I just couldn’t help but think of the real-life on and off again relationship that has unfolded between him and Jennifer Aniston. Jennifer seems like a smart gal. I’m just wondering WHAT THE HECK SHE IS THINKING still dating John Mayer??!!! Yes, he is a talented, sexy musician, but if a guy tells reporters that he ““ended a relationship to be alone, because I don’t want to waste somebody’s time if somethings not right…” then that means that HE IS JUST NOT THAT INTO YOU!!! Obviously, I could be wrong and he may have changed his mind, but it just seems like a clear message to me. Yet, she still wastes her time with him.
Overall, I think this is a great date night or girl’s night out movie. If you go and see it, stop back here and let me know what you think.
Friday Eye Candy: Disney Hotties
We’re back! We had a great time on the cruise and I’ll be posting some pictures and a few highlights this weekend.
Since my brain is still in Disney mode, I thought I’d make this the theme of Friday Eye Candy. Don’t worry, ThreeBoys1Mommy. There will be no pictures of Donald or Goofy in this post.
Here are my picks:
Everyone’s favorite sexy pirate: Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) from Pirates of the Caribbean:

Tarzan (just a random sexy guy playing the part):

Prince Caspian from The Chronicles of Narnia (Played by Ben Barnes)

Prince Philip (David Beckham in an Annie Leibovitz photo shoot) from Sleeping Beauty:
