Friday Eye Candy: My Most Anticipated Movies of 2010 (Part 3)

Uh oh…

leap year review 2

Leap Year isn’t exactly bringing in the rave reviews. This doesn’t really make me want to rush right out and pay $10 to see it.  So it looks like I’ll just be waiting for that one until it comes out on dvd.

Now don’t get me wrong.  I don’t always trust the critics’ opinions.  I mean Serendipity and The Notebook weren’t exactly embraced by the critics either.  This clearly means one of two things–either I have no taste in movies or most critics are heartless fools.  I believe the latter.

Now for the final most anticipated movie of 2010, it is going to have to be:

5.  Valentine’s Day

2010 Valentines_Day

I already have my doubts about this movie for several reasons.  First of all, I feel like they are trying to copy the Love Actually formula.

  • Gather together as many famous actors/actresses as possible…check
  • Put them in various stories about relationships and love…check
  • Revolve the stories around one central holiday theme…check
  • Bonus Points for throwing in a cute kid with a crush too….check

The posters are even eerily similar:

love actually movie postervalentine's day poster

And yet, I still really want to see this movie.   Take a look at the trailer and tell me what you think:

Cute, right?

And did you see all that beautiful eye candy?  That may be worth the $10 admission charge alone:

Ashton Kutcher

valentine's day ashton

Topher Grace

valentine's day topher

(Editor’s Note:  I have a very strange and complex attraction to Topher Grace.  When I see him on “That 70’s Show” I am almost repulsed by him, but when I watch him in movies I find him seriously sexy.  What is wrong with me?)

McDreamy (i.e. Patrick Dempsey)

valentine's day patrick

McSteamy (i.e. Eric Dane)

eric-dane-sexyphoto

Bradley Cooper

valentine's day bradley

So, let’s recap…

My Most Anticipated Movies of 2010 are:

1.  Blue Valentine ( release date: Spring 2010)

2. Inception ( release date:  July 16, 2010)

3. Leap Year (in theaters now)

4.  Eclipse (release date:  June 30, 2010)

5.  Valentine’s Day (release date:   February 12, 2010)

And finally, a few movies that just missed the cut but I’m still looking forward to seeing:

-Sex and the City 2

-Alice in Wonderland

-Letters to Juliet

-Hot Tub Time Machine

Friday Eye Candy: My Most Anticipated Movies of 2010 (Part 2)

If you missed part 1 of this list (Most Anticipated Movies  #1-3),  feel free to go here to catch up.

4.  Leap Year

2010 leap year

This movie has 3 things going for it:

1.  Amy Adams (I ♥ her.)

2.  Beautiful setting (something tells me I will be researching a trip to Ireland after seeing this movie.)

3.  Cute boy with scruffy beard. (See below)

Now, do I think this movie will be predictable?  Yes.  Do I think this movie will be cheesey?  Of course.  Do I still want to see it?  DEFINITELY!!

I’m a huge sucker for romantic comedies and I think 2010 is going to be like a renaissance for this genre (which, in my opinion with the exception of a few gems, has gotten a bit stale lately.)

Now, back to #3–Matthew Goode….Oh my goodness!!  Where has this guy been hiding all my life?  Well, hello there Mr. Goode.  It is VERY nice to meet you!  I look forward to getting to know you more.  :)

4.  Eclipse

2010 Eclipse

I can’t help it.  Despite being incredibly disappointed in the first two installments of the Twilight movie saga (in comparison to the books) I am holding out some hope that they will wow me with the third one.  This is probably my favorite book in the series.  I love the way the Edward-Bella-Jacob love triangle unfolds and I have two words for you:

TENT SCENE!!!!

All I can say is they had better get this scene right!!

And since it is Friday Eye Candy, how about some random Rob pics:

rob pattinson hot 4

rob pattinson hot 3

rob pattinson hot

That last one is my personal favorite Rob pic, I think of ALL TIME!!  He looks so gorgeous here.

I do have one more movie on my list, but it will require its own separate post so stay tuned for Part 3….coming soon!

Post-Anniversary Wrap-up

Thank you all for the anniversary wishes (and for joining me in bashing Jon Gosselin because that is the best present you could ever give me.   He is such a slimeball!!).

We ended up going to the Cheesecake Factory for dinner.  While I love that place for the food I’m not a big fan of how they pack people in.  Maybe it is just a Maryland CF thing but I always feel like our table is on top of the people next to us, and while they seemed like perfectly nice people, it didn’t make for a very romantic evening.  But I guess I can’t complain since I chose to go to the Cheesecake Factory for my anniversary dinner.  Who does that anyway?

The people next to us had the sweetest kids.  The little boy (looked about 8 or 9) gave the waitress a hug before leaving the restaurant.  A hug!?!?!?!   My kids would never do something like that.  Should I feel like a failure as a parent that my kids aren’t overly affectionate with the waitstaff or should I consider it a parenting win?  I mean do I really want my 9 year old son hugging waitresses anyway.  I can’t decide, but really it doesn’t matter because it would never, ever happen.

We went outside our comfort zone and tried a new dessert.   We normally get the Factory Mud Pie, which is not actually Cheesecake, but just a giant slice of chocolate cake, ice cream, whipped cream and chocolate chips.  I mean who goes to the Cheesecake Factory and doesn’t actually order a cheesecake?  Us.  It has been a staple in our Cheesecake Factory experience for many years, but it seemed like it was time for change.  So we ordered this:

menu_cheesecake_godivachocolate

The Godiva Chocolate Cheesecake…..mmmmmmm.

If heaven could fit on a plate it would be this dessert.  It was seriously DIVINE!

After dinner, we went to see The Proposal with Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds.

proposal

I went into it knowing that it was going to be total fluff and there were a couple of really funny parts, but I have to say that I didn’t love the movie.  I feel like I’m becoming really picky about romantic comedies lately.  I guess I keep waiting for the next Serendipity or Only You or Sleepless/You’ve Got Mail and every single time I am left disappointed.

I found myself being annoyed with the way that Ryan’s character was treating Sandra’s character most of the movie.  I know that was sort of the point, but it made for very little chemistry between them.    Sandra was great at her role and Ryan is slowly growing on me, but I really didn’t care that much if they ended up together at the end or not.  And to me that is not a good thing when you are talking about a romantic comedy.  I think it is definitely worth the watch (for the Betty White parts and Oscar from the Office too), but I’d wait for it on dvd.

If you’ve noticed my absence lately in the comment department, it is because I am in full vacation planning mode.  I tend to become a bit obsessive (huge understatement) when I plan a trip.  My kids barely get fed and laundry piles up to the ceiling.  Yet another one of the many traits my husband loves about me.

We FINALLY made a decision about where we wanted to go and I secured airfare yesterday.

florida-keys

The Florida Keys!!

We’ve never been to the Keys so it should be a new and exciting adventure.  I’m a little nervous about the drive down on that narrow bridge but I guess it will be fine.

If you’ve ever been to the Keys, let me know of any can’t miss places to see, do, eat, stay, etc…

Anticipation

There are so many movies coming out this summer/early fall that I am very excited about.

Public Enemies with Johnny Depp looks excellent.  It seems packed full of  romance, action, and sexy guys (other than Johnny there is also Channing Tatum, Billy Crudup, Giovanni Ribisi and Christian Bale)–what more can a girl ask for in a summer flick?!

public-enemies

Shutter Island with Leonardo DiCaprio (due out in October) also looks pretty good. (Thanks for the heads-up on this one Amy! I almost forgot Leo had this movie coming out.)

shutter-island

I know a lot of people will be moaning about another DiCaprio/Scorcese collaboration but my feeling is that The Departed, The Aviator and Gangs of New York were all excellent movies so what is there to complain about.  If it ain’t broke, why try to fix it, right?

IMDB still has Ryan Gosling’s All Good Things release date for July 24th, but I find that hard to believe without any trailers or posters to be found online.

all-good-things

Of course, I already have my calendar marked just in case.

Now I have to ask.  Has anyone seen The Hangover?  I keep hearing how hilarious it is but you all know my feelings about Bachelor parties so I’m wondering if I will enjoy it?  Sometimes, I like raunchy, guy movies (like Wedding Crashers, Something About Mary) but then other times I’m kind of put off by this genre (like American Pie, Old School).   So, I have a little hesitation about running out to see it.  If you’ve seen it let me know what you think.

Out of all the movies coming out this summer, the one that I am MOST excited for, without a doubt, is The Time Traveler’s Wife with Eric Bana and Rachel McAdams.  It opens on August 14th.

I’ve watched the trailer three times and got chills (and tears) on each viewing.  It looks really good.  See for yourself:

I know a lot of people went crazy over the book but I had a hard time with it.  It was just so confusing with all the jumping all over the place.  In the end I did enjoy it, but I think that maybe I should read it again.   I’m thinking it might be better the second time around since I understand the basic concept of their love story.

But wow!  This trailer just makes the movie look spectacular.  I know that it could be misleading but I’m totally psyched!

So, which movies are you excited about this summer/fall?  Did you read Time Traveler’s Wife?  If so, what do you think of the trailer–do you think the movie will hold up to the book?

Best Kiss

I know I’m way too old to be saying this, but I just LOVE the MTV Movie Awards.

Probably my biggest reason for being so smitten with this show is that they have the award to trump all other awards in the history of awarding.

BEST KISS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oscars, Grammy’s,  Pullitzer, Noble Peace Prize….they all pale in comparison to the Best Kiss award.

And this year has some really fantastic nominees.   Actually, so many that I’m having an incredibly hard time deciding on which one to pick.  I’d love for you to help me choose.

I’ve narrowed it down to my top 3 favorites:

#1  James McAvoy and Angelina Jolie in Wanted. I really didn’t love the movie, but this kiss was so HOT!!

#2 Dev Patel and Freida Pinto in Slumdog Millionaire This kiss was so romantic and since they are now together in real life I feel like I want to vote for them so we may have another Epic Moment (see below for an explanation of Epic Moments).

Sorry this wasn’t a full clip.  I had a really hard time finding this kiss on youtube.

#3 Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in Twilight I feel like I should choose this one because…well, it’s Twilight and how can I not choose something Twilight related, right?  I don’t know.  I’m just not feeling it.  (Please don’t kick me out of the club.)  I’d be shocked if it didn’t win though.

I need to watch the kisses a few more times to decide, but I have to say that I’m leaning toward the Wanted kiss because I would give anything to switch places with Angelina Jolie for that moment.  She may be married to Brad Pitt, but I’m actually way more jealous of her getting to lock lips with McAvoy.

Sigh.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

I will now go off on a tangent because this is my blog and I like tangents…

Now, you know I can’t do a post about the MTV Movie Awards and not post this video.  If you haven’t seen this video, you are in for a real treat.  Sit back, relax and prepare to be swept away by the magic.

It was an Epic Moment and one that I’m pretty sure can never be topped.

Ever.

This was the moment that started my Gos-obsession.  I had seen The Notebook and thought that Ryan was a great actor and pretty hot, but I really didn’t give him that much thought.  (Do you believe it??  Yes, it is true.)

I was sitting in my basement just vegging out. I flipped on the MTV Movie Awards and began watching.   Little did I know that my whole world was about to change.

I mean how could it not.

This video is two minutes and twelve seconds of absolute perfection.  I’m not sure what heaven is like but I’m pretty sure it looks something like this video.

From the way he gestures Rachel to lead the way up to the stage, to the way he looks in that tight Darfur tshirt, to the way he points and motions for her to jump into his arms.

Oh and then there is the actual kiss!!!  OMG The Kiss!!!!  Just amazing.

Then he speaks and it is like angels singing….”It was my pleasure”… did you hear that?  Angels!!  Finally, as he is walking off the stage he grabs her jacket and flings it over his shoulder.  OH MY GOD!!

This is porn for women.  Well, at least it is for this woman.

An Epic Moment.  That is the only way I can describe it.

My life hasn’t been the same since.

End tangent now.

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Sorry about that.  If you are still with me,  go and vote for your favorite kiss at the MTV Movie Awards site.  You can see all the nominees and the full length kisses here.  The show will air live on Sunday, May 31st.

Let me know which kiss you voted for in the comments.   You can also feel free to tell me how much you loved the McGosling kiss too if you want.

Weekend Worth

Here’s how our Valentine’s Day added up:

Finding out there was a 3 hour wait at the Cheesecake Factory at 4:30 in the afternoon….$0

Deciding not to wait and getting sushi instead….$17

Candy and a bottle of water purchased beforehand and snuck into the theater….$3

Movie tickets to Slumdog Millionaire….$20

Getting carded for a rated R movie….PRICELESS

I think the ticket booth person must have been blind or on some really hard drugs because there is no way that I look under 17.  I haven’t been carded for a movie since… EVER.

That definitely had to be the highlight of the weekend.

About the movie….Slumdog Millionaire is one of those movies that you just can’t stop thinking about after you leave the theater.  It is very intense and there are some scenes that are really difficult to watch, but I have to say that I am so glad that I went to see it.  It is a beautiful love story that deserves all the awards that it has been receiving.

Speaking of movies, don’t forget to sign up for the Twitter Oscar Red Carpet party!!

Raindrops on Roses

We’ve been having severe thunderstorms all evening.  Of course they miraculously disappeared for about an hour, just in time for the ice cream to make his nightly rounds.  Yes, he comes down our street EVERY  FREAKING NIGHT!

Anyway, the storm gods (who obviously hate me) decided to start their rumbling again right around the time that I was trying to get the kids settled down for the night.  Well, after a few loud crashes, flashes and booms my daughter came running out of her room crying.

I decided to use this moment to re-enact a scene from one of my favorite movies ever–The Sound of Music

I took her back to her room and starting singing “My Favorite Things” .

I either helped her forget her fears with this wonderful song (that I massacred) or my horrendous singing voice frightened her more than the storm.  At any rate, the song worked and I got to be Fraulein Maria for the night.   Everyone’s a winner!  Hooray!

In case you’ve never watched The Sound of Music (Seriously, is there anyone out there who hasn’t seen this masterpiece?), here is the clip:

(After many unsuccessful attempts, I was unable to figure out how to post a Mister Linky on my site.  Clearly, this is something that I should have started working on three months ago because I am completely inept when it comes to these things despite the hours that I spent trying to figure it out today.)

Instead of the Mr. Linky, just leave a comment on this post telling me that you have your post up on your site.  Please also tell me what the subject of your post is (please be more specific than “movies”).   I will then add everyone’s post to this list the list below.  I will be adding the links every couple of hours so don’t fret if yours takes a little bit to show up.  I promise I will try to add everyone as quickly as possible.

Movie Review: Sex and the City

I thought that since I was hosting a Movie Madness carnival on my site that it was my duty to go and see the much anticipated movie Sex and the City.  I told my husband that it was research for the MMC (not Mickey Mouse Club, but Movie Madness Carnival).  At this point he rolled his eyes because that is what he always does when I say the words Blogging Carnival.  He just doesn’t get it.

Alright, back to SATC.

Love.  Forgiveness.  Friendship. Fashion.  These were the overriding themes of the movie.  It is really hard to write a review because pretty much anything more I would say about it would contain spoilers.  I don’t want to be the jerk that does that.

It was enjoyable, although I have to admit that it ran a tad bit too long.  The addition of Jennifer Hudson (Idol-season 3) wasn’t necessary and I think if you cut out all her scenes (Sorry, Jen-I have nothing against you and think you did a fine job in your role but I didn’t see the necessity of your character) it would have made for a better movie.  I thought the first hour was phenomenal and the last 10 minutes were also great, but it lost me a little somewhere in the middle.

With that said, the movie really was a lot of fun.   Let’s start with the main character.  No, not Carrie.

The Fashion.

Oh, how I wish that I had the money personal stylists fashion sense that these girls have.  Instead I sit here in a t-shirt, capris and flip flops feeling oh so very frumpy.

Samantha and Charlotte stole the show with pretty much every scene they were in.  There is a scene with Charlotte and Big toward the end of the movie that was worth the entire cost of admission.  She rocks!!  Miranda annoyed me, as usual, but I did like her hair.

And Carrie.  Oh, I don’t even know what to say about her.  I guess I was just a little distracted the whole time by SJP’s bony arms.  There is one scene in the movie (I hope this isn’t giving anything away. I don’t think it is.) where the girls give Samantha a hard time for gaining weight.  Yes, she is a lot fuller, but I couldn’t help but think the whole time–why aren’t you addressing Carrie being too thin?  I don’t know.  It just kind of annoyed me.

My rating for this movie would be 4/5 stars.  Not the best movie I’ve ever seen, but it was definitely worth the watch.  If you are a huge SATC fan, I’d probably see it in theaters, but otherwise I’d wait until it comes out on dvd.

Now I can cross this movie off my list of movies to see in 2008.  However, I now have a new one to add.  They showed a preview at the beginning for a movie I hadn’t yet heard of.  It was for Nights in Rodanthe.   This is yet another adaptation for a Nicholas Sparks novel.  I think it looks pretty good:

I’m planning to put the post for the movie carnival up tonight before I go to bed.   Don’t forget to come back and link up (if I can get this Mister Linky thing to show up on my site–grrr).  Remember it doesn’t have to be a movie as recent as SATC.  It actually doesn’t have to be a review at all.  The post just needs to have something to do with the theme of the movies.  I can’t wait to read everyone’s posts!  Get your popcorn ready!!

Speaking of popcorn, don’t forget to enter my giveaway!  The deadline to leave a comment is June 4th at 11pm (EST).
