Conveyor Belt of Love: Genius or Atrocious?
I can’t decide. I watched this show last night due to a strange twist of fate of my tivo being broken and being stuck watching regular tv with (gasp) commercials. I regret to say that the end result is that I think I might be hooked on this ridiculous show.
If you didn’t watch it, allow me to introduce you to Conveyor Belt of Love:
The concept is simple.
Five girls sit up on a stage in front of a huge conveyor belt. Then the belt starts moving and out rolls the men one at a time. The guys step off the belt and do their best to try to “woo” the girls. Now this is where the show gets a bit quirky. The people in charge of casting for this show found an eclectic mix of men. They run the gamut from total losers to circus freaks to normal guys to incredibly adorable guys. Just to give you an idea, this one guy recited a poem about taking a bath in a tub of milk. I have no idea why he would think this would be sexy or romantic. The thought of this makes me nauseous. So many times I looked over at Brad and said, “Is this what guys truly think women want?”
But don’t worry, there were plenty of really cute guys too. For example, my personal favorite:
(Note: I may be willing to reconsider my stance on milk baths for him.)
So, after a few minutes of “wooing” and “questioning, the ladies then hold up a sign that says either interested or not interested. If more than one girl chooses the same guy, it is up to the guy to make the choice on which girl he wants to date.
The ladies can replace a guy if a new guy comes rolling out that they like more (which I think is kind of cruel and made me feel very sad, especially when cute sweater boy above left). After the girls have seen all the guys and made their selections, they go on a date with their guy. The final 10 minutes of the show is highlights from the dates where you can see just how well the picks worked out.
This show kind of reminds me a little of Love Connection with Chuck Woolery. God, I loved that show. One summer I was totally obsessed with it and watched it EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. I’d probably still be watching it today if they ever brought it back. (Note to self: Start a petition to bring back Love Connection.)
Ok, so back to CBOL, the funny thing is that the one couple that I really didn’t think were going to hit it off (mouthy Asian chick and speedo dog guy) actually really clicked in the end. It was a match made in reality show heaven. And I loved when she said “I want you to worship me,” after what seemed like maybe five minutes on the date. Good stuff!
I think ABC may have struck reality GOLD with this show!!
Please tell me I’m not the only one to watch (and sorta like) Conveyor Belt of Love. If you watched, what did you think? Will you watch again?
This and That
A few things running through my mind and if your tivo didn’t record LOST or Idol last night, you may want to skip this post because there are spoilers ahead…
- I was shocked by last night’s Idol. I really thought it was going to be a Danny vs Adam finale.

I’m not saying that I think Kris is less talented or doesn’t deserve his spot because we voted for the guy a ton of times over the past few months. He’s definitely the favorite in our house, but I just thought that Danny had a huge fan base (like Adam). Now that Danny is out, I have to wonder if Kris might have real potential to actually win the whole thing. Logic says that most of Danny’s voters will be more into Kris’ style than Adam. It should be an exciting finale next week.
Who do you want to win American Idol?
- LOST is always a mindtrip, but last night’s episode totally took the cake. My favorite part-and I think maybe one of my favorite scenes ever on the show-was when they showed Bernard and Rose living a happy retired life in the jungle. I just loved how annoyed they were to see Kate, Juliet, and Sawyer show up. Then Rose has this awesome line–
“It’s always something with you people. … We traveled back 30 years in time and you’re still trying to find ways to shoot each other?
Then there was the whole unveiling of the Jacob character. I don’t know about you but I expected him to look a whole lot creepier than he did. I mean with his scary cabin in the woods and the way Ben feared him, I just expected more of a freak factor. (I’m thinking Twin Peaks or Children of the Corn freaky, not the Little House on the Prairie/Touch by an Angel/Waltons looking guy they chose.) Unless, of course he is supposed to represent God or an angel, but then why the creepy cabin in the woods? I’m so confused.

What did you think of LOST’s season finale?
- I just read the Martin Scorcese will direct “Sinatra,” a film telling Frank Sinatra’s life story. The internet is speculating that Leonardo DiCaprio will get the role and I think that would be an excellent choice (except for the fact that I’ve never heard Leo sing). I’ve also read a few plugs for Harry Connick Jr. and James Franco.

Who do you think could pull off this roll?
So Behind
On Sunday night while I was watching the Golden Globes, I started feeling a little weird. As the night went on, I kept feeling worse and worse, but I did my best to fight it off because there was no way I was stepping away from the tv. It was Golden Globes night and I didn’t want to miss one minute of it. I love the Golden Globes. LOVE them! And this one was probably my absolute favorite one yet because it was a giant Kate and Leo SPECTACULAR!!

While I managed to not get sick during the broadcast, my luck ran out the rest of the night and all day Monday.
Since I hadn’t completely gotten myself caught up from being on vacation last week, now I am feeling totally behind on life. Laundry, kids school papers, work…the list goes on and on.
I had plans of doing a big Golden Globes recap, but that just isn’t going to happen, so instead I’ll just direct you to Katelin’s blog for hers since she pretty much took the words write out of my mouth.
As I was laying on my death bed, I did manage to watch the second episode of The Bachelor. Who’s watching? There is a girl on there that cracks me up because she is such a stalker. I think her name is Shannon. She came onto the show knowing everything about Jason (even his brother’s birthday–now that is weird. I don’t even know Mandi Gosling’s birthday). I’m somewhat interested in this Bachelor because even though he isn’t drop-dead gorgeous, he is pretty darn cute:

However, I’m a little grossed out by how many girls he has already kissed. I think it was about four in that one episode. YUCK! It made me remember why I stopped watching the show in the first place. Now I’m on the fence about whether or not to watch. Will you watch?
In between trying not to die, I did manage to finish Breaking Dawn. So, 2560 pages later and I am officially finished with the Twilight saga. There is a part of me that is sad, but there is also a part of me that is a little relieved. These books are so intense and I feel like whenever I pick one up I get so wrapped up with the characters and am compelled to keep reading until it is completely finished. I need a little break from Edward and Bella. I feel bad saying that but it is the truth. I am pretty happy with the way Stephenie Meyers ended the series. I know there were a lot of different paths she could have taken but I think the one she picked was the right one. Did you like the way it ended?
Next up is Midwives. I’m nervous. Every book I’ve tried to read in between the Twilight books has been disappointing. I’m hoping to find something that I like just as much as I enjoyed these books, but it is doubtful. Have you read any books since that have kept your attention the way the Twilight books have?
Speaking of Twilight, there have been a couple of Twilight-related blogs popping up. These bloggers feel badly about boring their readers with Twilight stuff so they started separate blogs for their obsession. I don’t feel this way at all so I will continue to bore you with news as it comes out, but in the meantime check them out:
Peanut Butter and Bella’s Lullaby
Inappropriate Twilight Obsession
I Tivo’d American Idol so I am off to watch that. I swear that Idol and LOST are about the only things that get me through the long winter.
I did hear that that they were going to do less bad auditions and try to focus more on the contestants that actually make it to Hollywood so that is a good change, but I just don’t know how I feel about this fourth judge. What do you think? Do you even watch Idol?
That about wraps up this completely idiotic post. Between Christmas, getting sick and the cruise, I’m completely off my blogging game. Hopefully I can get back on track soon. I have a New Year’s resolution post that I drafted, but it seems a bit late. Should I post it anyway?
13 Things That Make Me Smile

I tuned into President Bush’s speech on the financial crisis last night. I have to give him credit for helping me to understand the whole thing a little better, but I kind of got the impression that this was something that I should have already been worried about. Well as much as I try, I can’t seem to will myself to be overly concerned. Am I being ignorant or naive? Are you worried about it? Should I be worried about it? Make me worry, damn it.
Ok, enough of that. With all the doom and gloom surrounding us, I thought I would make a list of the things that I’m happy about right now. I thought I’d share my list since it may be helpful to others to take their minds off the proverbial falling sky.
Disclaimer: My friends and family do make me happy, but since I don’t post many personal pictures, I thought I would share some universal things that we can all relate to and improve our moods.
1. This blogger met Ryan Gosling. While I wish it was me instead of her, I’m glad to read that he was super nice. I left this comment on her post:
Can I just tell you how happy I am for you (ok and a little jealous too). I think more than that I’m just really glad to hear that Ryan is a nice guy. It is hard to continue to have sexual fantasies about a jerk, so thanks for keeping the dream alive.
2. My friend just gave me New Moon (the second book in the Twilight saga). I just love knowing that it is in my possession and that in a few short days I will be reading it. There is a sense of calm that I can’t explain knowing that Edward Cullen is on my nightstand right now. For the last time, I do realize that he is a vampire. That doesn’t take away from his perfection.
3. I received an email with a bunch of funny pictures. While I usually hate forwards there were a couple that made me smile. First there was this one:
4. And then this one:
Can you just imagine driving down the street and seeing either of these things?
5. Have you heard the Gavin Rossdale song “Love Remains the Same”? I just love it! Apparently, this is not a new song but my awful local pop music radio station has just discovered it. Therefore, I’m just now discovering it since I’m a slave to what the djs decide I must listen to. I’m so not a musical hipster.
For some reason this song reminds me of Twilight and Edward Cullen. Not sure why.
6. It’s almost October. I love October. How can you not love October? The weather is perfect, the leaves are changing colors (well, at least it is here, not sure about where you live).
It is also my birthday month, and yes I do celebrate (or at least try to celebrate) the entire month. I call it the Month-long Birthday Extravaganza. It drives my husband crazy. Plus, all the fall decorations, mums, and pumpkins. I think October is God’s way of making the transition into winter bearable. Have I mentioned my absolute disdain for winter yet? Oh, don’t worry. I’m sure you will hear all about it in the upcoming months.
Ok, I’m getting off track from my positive post. The last reason October is so wonderful is that my neighborhood goes all out for Halloween. Now, normally I’m not a huge fan of my neighborhood, but Halloween makes up for it. These people are Halloween freaks, which is kind of fun. There are all sorts of decorations, smoke machines, and kids line the streets trick or treating. It is a HUGE deal here. (While your religious beliefs may not support this “evil” holiday, you must at least concur that any excuse for the consumption of chocolate is never a bad thing). October rocks!
7. Fall tv is BACK!! That means new episodes of 30 Rock!

8. And Grey’s Anatomy which means lots of McSteamy and McDreamy:

(Note to Shonda Rhimes–Please just let Meredith and Derek be happy for a few episodes before finding yet another way to destroy their love. If I have to watch one more mopey Meredith episode, I’m going to try to drown myself too.)
9. And the last (but definitely not least) show that I’m super excited about is THE OFFICE. It is BACK!!!!!! TONIGHT!!!! Alleluia! Oh how I’ve missed my Office.

10. Another thing that made me smile recently is this blog award from My Friend Amy.
While I love any award, I was especially excited to be getting this one from Amy. I love Amy and her blog, as I’ve mentioned before. Also, this award is super cute. It reminds me of my binder from middle/high school with the I love so and so, crossed out, so and so, crossed out, so and so. I was very fickle with my declarations of love.
11. Since I don’t want to seem greedy by keeping this award all to myself, I’d like to pass it on to a few blogs that I love and always brighten my mood. While there are many really great blogs that I could give this to, but I want to pick a few out of my blogroll that aren’t as well known.
The first is Three Boys One Mommy. She calls herself the Super Commenter and I have to say that she is right. They all crack me up. Her blog is a riot too. You should definitely check it out!
12. I’ve recently discovered Even the Nice Ones. Have you ever had the experience of clicking on a blog and just reading a few paragraphs it was like love at first site/sight. This is exactly what happened with this blog. The fact that she calls her husband “Not Matt Damon” is just icing on the cake.
13. Lastly, I have been reading Memarie Lane for awhile now. I have to say that I always take something from her posts (whether it is something funny or thought-provoking.) She is a fantastic writer! For example, if you want more reasons to smile about our impending doom, click here.
What has been making you smile lately? Did I manage to take your mind off the financial crisis for a little bit? Is your mind even on the crisis?

In The Air Tonight
I can feel it coming in the air tonight. Remember that creepy song? What was he even talking about anyway? Actually while I’m on the subject of mysterious Phil Collins songs, what the heck is a Sussudio? I’ve always wanted to know.
Either way, I love you Phil, and your depressing love songs:

So what is it that I’m feeling in the air tonight?
Fall. Autumn. It doesn’t matter what you call it because it all means the same thing. Summer is almost over and that makes me want to cry.
Everywhere I look there are back to school ads. It is unavoidable. Trust me, I’ve tried not to see them, but they just won’t go away.
This chilly weather is pretty much all I needed to push me over the edge into a dark pit of depression. (Guess who didn’t get in touch with her doctor for some happy pills?)
Just when I think things can’t get any worse, I tune into the Olympics Opening Ceremonies to find out that my favorite fish (Michael Phelps) is too busy resting for his early morning event to be there. What kind of lame excuse is that?
I almost turned the tv off right there and then but it was such an amazing spectacle that I couldn’t do it. You know what? I’m glad I didn’t turn it off because hidden in the middle of one of the commercial breaks was a reason to go on living.
What was this reason?
Oh just a little promo video for the best show ever– The Office. Did anyone else catch that? Oh how I love my Jim and Dwight and their tumultuous relationship.
Knowing that there are new episodes of The Office coming makes the end of summer just a little bit easier to bear.
I couldn’t find the commercial so I’m putting up this Jim vs Dwight video for all The Office fans out there that may need a fix:
A Whole Lot of Random
This post is really going to live up to my blog name of mish mash. I just have all these random thoughts floating around in my head that aren’t really worthy of an entire post, so I’m throwing them all together here. Please don’t look for any purpose or cohesive theme, because you will find none.

I was unloading the dishwasher when my daughter walked through the kitchen. She slipped on a little bit of the water that had dripped off a bowl I had just taken out.
After she regained her composure, she looks at me with a flabberghasted expression and sighed loudly.
Then she proceeds to say to me in her most agitated voice, “Mom, you really need write up a wet floor sign and post it when you have the time.”
I don’t know why but this just struck me as funny. I guess I pictured myself getting out the markers and construction paper and drawing that funny looking guy in the triangle. Sure, I’ll pencil it in right after folding the laundry, cooking dinner and the myriad of other endless tasks I have on my to-do list.

You know I didn’t really think that much of the Miley Cyrus bare back pictures when everyone was making such a fuss about them. Yes, they were a bit unnecessarily sexy for her age, but nothing too shocking.
At the time, everyone was blaming the photographer for taking advantage of a young, innocent girl.
Well, I wonder if people are still singing the same tune after seeing the latest provocative pictures .(Note: Not the one to the right. I refuse to post such filth on my blog. The only wet t-shirt pictures that you will see here will be of guys on Friday Eye Candy–never, ever Disney teen stars turned tramps. Why? Because it is my blog and I make all the rules, so there!)
We always hear how mortified and shocked she is when her private photos are hacked and making their rounds online, but I just can’t feel that sorry for her. Stop taking them or if you did it in the past and are regretful, then just DELETE all traces of them. I mean I’m almost wondering if this is some sort of crazy publicity stunt. If so, HELLO?? Did you not see what happened to Britney Spears??!! Taking your clothes off is not the answer, Miley. Show some class and cover up.
—————————————————————–
Last night for dinner we had pork chops, beans, noodles and apple sauce.
I love this meal for one main reason. I get to tell my kids and husband that we are having “Pork Chopppss and Aaaaple shauce (in my best Peter Brady/Bogart voice).
It was the highlight of my day if that tells you anything.

Do you think it is really possible to be possessed by a demon? I found myself wondering this yesterday a few times after watching my son and his hellish behavior. I think we need to move on from time outs to getting a priest over here to do an exorcism if things don’t improve. (I was going to post a picture of that girl from The Exorcist, but she is surprisingly scary if you actually look at her closely. I thought I’d spare you the trauma.)

Did anyone see the homerun derby? Grady Sizemore and Chase Utley were in it and looking fine. Very fine, indeed. They didn’t win though.
While we are on the subject of my cute baseball player list, I got a few comments that the Nick Markakis picture I posted really didn’t do him justice. Natalie (no link/no website) was kind enough to email me a few more to share with you. There were many but I think this was my favorite:

My Tivo didn’t record Big Brother for us on Sunday when we were at the concert. We forgot to set it to record the new season but were hoping that it would be smart enough to know that we always watch Big Brother.
Either Tivo isn’t as smart as I give Him credit to be or else He is trying to send me a message that I shouldn’t bother with it this year.
Every summer since it first premiered we have wasted countless hours on this completely mind-numbing and useless show. Sure, it has provided a few entertaining moments (especially the seasons with Dr. Will Kirby) but for the most part I think I’m outgrowing this midsummer tradition.
Did anyone watch on Sunday? Should I tune in or should I leave my fate in the hands of the almighty Tivo?

Speaking of wasting time on things, I don’t have a lot of praise for The Thirteenth Tale. It got a lot of great reviews, but I just couldn’t seem to get into the story or the characters.
The story had a lot to do with twins and the “twin bond”. Since I’m not a twin I just felt like I couldn’t get the connection the author kept referring to over and over and over again.
I only continued to push through because my book club loved it so much. Well, now I’m not only annoyed with the book, but also my book club for recommending it so highly.
This book has been compared to Jane Eyre and it was mentioned many times in the book, so my book club thought we should read this one next. I’m currently on page 80 and already enjoying it far more than The Thirteenth Tale, so I am hopeful that it will be a better read. I’m guessing it will be since it is a classic and all, but now I’m skeptical.
Has anyone read either of these books? What did you think of them?
________________________________________
Speaking of twins, what do you think of the names that Brangelina (that was for you Non-Soccer Mom) gave to their new twins?
Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline
I still haven’t made up my mind about them. What’s a Knox? Why must celebrity parents give their children such odd names. I think Angelina has a thing with the letter “x”. First Maddox, then Pax and now Knox. I just see that getting confusing since they all kind of sound the same.
I don’t know about you but I just can’t wait to see the whole brood trying to get from here to there. I know there will be nannies and bodyguards and arms full of babies. It will be such a fun spectacle to see!
That’s it for now. Was that enough random for you for one day? Do you believe I went a whole post without mentioning Ryan Gosling? Oops, I guess I didn’t really. Oh well.
Jason Castro Without His Dreadlocks
Ever wonder what ex-Idol Jason Castro would look like without his dreads? Now you don’t have to wonder anymore. Check out these pics:

And here is one more:

So, which look do you prefer on Jason? Short hair, Medium Hair or Dreads? Leave a comment and let me know.
P.S. I kind of like the dreads, but I think he looks really good with the medium length hair.
American Idol Recap-Final 6
Tonight is Andrew Lloyd Weber night. Is he a Sir? I think he is. So it is Sir Andrew Lloyd Weber night. That means songs from his musicals. I’m going to start out by saying that I’m not a huge fan of this genre. It could be because the closest thing I have actually seen to a Broadway musical were the plays from high school (and as good as they seemed back then, I’m sure that they weren’t really all that good).
Here is my take on tonight’s performances:
Syesha–One Rock and Roll Too Many–She looks really pretty, but I’m just not down with the bare feet. My husband said it was because she didn’t want to wipe out coming down from the platform. I think that would have added to the performance. Not that I’d want to see any blood or anything, but I’m just not a huge fan. The judges seemed to like it, but I wasn’t overly wowed.
Jason–Memories Have I mentioned that he’s my favorite? He picked probably the most well known song of all from the musical Cats. I love when he said that he didn’t know a cat sung the song. He cracks me up! It definitely wasn’t his strongest performance, but he just has a way of singing any song that makes my heart melt. Uh oh, the judges didn’t like him. Guess I better get voting so he stays another week.
Brooke-You Must Love Me–Yikes! She started the song, messed up and had to start over again. Not good. Didn’t she do that earlier in the season and the judges liked it? They better really rip into her this time. What??!! Only Paula gave her a little slap on the wrist and Simon/Randy defended her. You’ve got to be kidding me! Poor Paula. For once she tries to be mean and no one backs her up. I think Brooke will probably be in the bottom three tomorrow.
David A–Think of Me–Wow, that kid can sing!! I don’t know the song and I didn’t really love the song (I kind of agree with Simon that it was forgettable), but he really did well with it. I loved it!! I love him!
Carly-Jesus Christ Superstar–I actually forgot she was still in the competition. That’s a bad thing, right? Well, she started off with a different song, but Sir Andrew cut her off and told her to do her second choice-Jesus Christ Superstar. I don’t like the song. (Please note–I do like Jesus, just not the song) I really didn’t like this performance. It just sounded shrieky to me. The t-shirt at the end was cute and may actually get her some votes. I doubt she’ll go home tomorrow. Oh and I’m glad she wore sleeves. Sleeves are good.
David C.-The Music of the Night–This was probably my favorite performance of the night. It wasn’t his best performance to date, but it was quite good for what it was. It kind of shocked me that he did so well with this fluff, since he is a serious rocker and all. But he really pulled off. I think he is the one to beat in this competition.
I think that Brooke, Syesha and Carly will be in the bottom three. I am a little worried that it could be Jason, but I voted 10 times for him, so that should keep him safe. I think it will be Brooke that goes home. That will mean we’ll have to see a montage of her and that weird thing she does with her lips. It is really starting to pluck my nerves, so I hope that it is her that goes home.
Overall, the night was just eh. I’m still not a big fan of musical songs. Sorry (insert snotty English accent here for the full effect).
Head on over to Boomama’s to see what everyone else thought of tonight’s Idol.
Like Finding A Twenty Dollar Bill Left In Your Pocket
You know the feeling. After a long summer, you put your jacket on for the first time and reach into your pocket. Jackpot!! You pull out the folded up bill and your heart begins to flutter with excitement. Or when the alarm clock goes off on the weekend and you realize you don’t have to get up for anything. Well, this morning as I was driving home from running some errands I had a similar experience. Not just once, but two times!!
I was driving along and felt my stomach start to growl and I looked at the clock. It was 10:13am–darn it, 2 more hours until lunchtime. (Yes, I do count down the minutes until my next meal because I’m pathetic like that.) Then it hit me that I had forgotten to eat breakfast this morning. Jackpot!! I felt like I just hit the lottery. I began dreaming of all the ways I would spend my winnings–should I have oatmeal, cereal, bagel, waffles–oh the possibilities are endless. For the record, I love food that much.
My thoughts then turned to what was on my agenda for the day and I realized it was Thursday. Jackpot! New episodes of The Office and 30 Rock!! Oh yes, I am that addicted to tv and now its out there for all the world to see. Well, I’d like to think that at least I’ll make someone else feel better today because after reading this they’ll realize that someone else’s life is indeed more boring then theirs. I’ve done my good deed for the day.
By this time I’m loving life and feeling totally upbeat. This was really starting out to be a great day. I think I may even exercise today. Now that would be something different. That’s how good I was feeling. Then, without warning, the low fuel gage started beeping and I realized I would have to dump nearly $60 to just get home. I think I’ll exercise tomorrow.
