If you are in hurry, you may just want to skip this post because it is a doozy.

Ever since I got back on Monday from the vacation I’ve been feeling out of it.  I haven’t been wanting to do much of anything.  Everything and everyone is driving me crazy.  I’ve been on edge and I just can’t take it anymore.

Today I was doing one of those paid online surveys.  They are usually pretty quick and easy, plus you get a few extra bucks for completing them.  Well, I guess I’ve never done one when I’ve been in full blown PMS mode because I thought I was going smash my laptop to pieces if they asked me one more stupid question.  How many different ways can you describe a bottle of shampoo?

I know what you are thinking.  Why didn’t you just close the survey down and not do it if it was so frustrating.   Well I kept thinking, oh I’ve gone this far I may as well just finish the damn thing now.  Every time I thought it would end it just kept going on and on and on.  I was shaking and having a hard time catching my breath by the end because I was so mad.

I went into the bathroom and closed the door and cried.  I just felt like I wanted to jump out of my own skin.  Have you ever felt that way?

I calmed down and then went and got the phone.  I called my wonderful GYN doctor to beg him to write me a prescription for some sort of medication to get me through this time of the month.  We had talked about it before, but I was always like, “Oh it isn’t that bad.  I can get through it.”

You know what?  I can’t get through it anymore.  I’m at my wit’s end and I need to not feel this way anymore.  I had to leave a message with the nurse (who most likely thought I was crazy) and he will call tomorrow.   And hopefully I will never have to feel this way again.

Needless to say, I haven’t been around to many of your blogs lately.  I just don’t feel up to it and I hope that you understand.  Once I am heavily a little medicated I will probably once again feel like socializing.  Until then, I’m sorry.

Let’s move right along to the winners of the giveaways.

Giveaway #1:  Starbuck’s Gift Card

Thank you all so much for taking the time to do a little shower curtain shopping for me.  There were so many great suggestions that I hadn’t even considered.  I have started narrowing them down, but I haven’t decided on one yet.  Once I do,  I promise that I will let you all know and announce the winner.

Giveaway #2:  Disney Gift Card

I read through the Disney entries yesterday and was blown away by all the great little stories you all shared with me about  Disney World.  It really is such a magical place.  On days like today, all I need to do is put on my Magic Kingdom park music cd and it makes me feel at least a little better.

Anyway, thank you to everyone who entered and I really appreciate those of you that blogged about the contest and signed up for my newsletter.

The winner of the Disney Gift Card goes to WaWa (no blog).  Congratulations–I’ll be in touch to get your mailing address so I can send you out your card.

Giveaway #3:  Barnes and Nobles Gift Card

Surprisingly, there were only a couple of people who guessed the truth to the Fact or Fiction game.  I drew names from a hat and the winner of those lucky guessers was Jennifer (again, no blog).  Congratulations!  I’ll email you to get your mailing address.

Before I reveal the truth, let me also thank you for the great book recommendations.  I’m really looking forward to reading a few of those.

Here are the answers to the game:

FACT OR FICTION?

1. One of my favorite fruits is the cantaloupe and one of my least favorites is the pear.

Not true.  I think cantaloupes are pretty much disgusting.  I do like pears, though.

2. My favorite show is General Hospital. I tivo it and watch it almost every night before going to bed.

I did watch General Hospital back in 90’s when Sonny/Brenda/Jax were having their love triangle.  Every once in awhile I will turn it on just to see what is going on with the characters and not much has changed from the last time I watched it.  The same is true for Days of Our Lives.  The acting is pretty bad for the most part and the storylines are not as entertaining as I remember.  So, no this one is not true.

3. If I was given the choice to live in the middle of the city or the middle of the country, I would choose the country.

False.  The idea of having a lot of land to take care of just intimidates me.  Plus, although I’m not overly friendly with my neighbors, I like knowing that they are there.  It is like a security blanket to me.

4. My least favorite household chore is unloading the dishwasher.

Do I love doing it?  No, but I can think of about ten other chores that I dislike doing more.  The fact is that unloading the dishwasher only takes a few minutes each day to do.  Plus, I’m just so thankful to have this wonderful invention at my disposal.  The person who invented the dishwasher deserves a Nobel Peace Prize.  Brilliant!!

5. If I were to win the lottery, the first place I would go would be England.

Nope.  First stop would be New York City to go on a shopping spree.  Then we would hop on a plane to Hawaii for a very long vacation.

6. I had open heart surgery as a child.

Total lie! I did have a procedure done to my heart in my twenties, but it was definitely NOT open heart surgery.

7. I have seen every Ryan Gosling movie ever made.

This is where I lose all credibility as being Ryan’s number one stalker.  I have to admit that I have missed a couple of his films.  I know, isn’t that crazy?!!  There are a few really old movie on his imdb page that I haven’t seen yet plus I haven’t watched Slaughter Rule (I just can’t stand football).  I feel like I’m letting you guys down by admitting this but it is the truth.

8. I got pregnant with my son on a trip to Vegas.

TRUTH!!!!  We were on our last vacation before having kids.  It was actually our first time trying to get pregnant.  I never thought it would happen so fast, but it did.

9. Jack Johnson is my favorite singer.

Hello!  This was an easy one.  Anyone who read this post knows it is John Mayer!

10. I wake up everyday around 6:30am. Mornings are my favorite time of the day.

This is such a lie I thought my keyboard was going to catch on fire when I typed it.  Just saying I’m not a morning person seems like the understatement of the year.  I hate it. Hate it.  Hate it.

_______________________________________________________________

This concludes the bloggy giveaway festivities (and the longest post EVER!!). I hope you won a few things.

Speaking of winning, I am the winner of a new blog design from Ruby and Roja Design.  I am so excited, but also clueless about what I want.  I mean, hello?!!!   I can’t even pick out a shower curtain.  How am I ever going to decide on something as important as a blog design.  Clearly,  I need serious help.

Fact or Fiction?

**Please note: This giveaway is now closed to new entries.

Another giveaway.  Can you stand it?  Are you sick of free stuff yet?  Can you ever be sick of free stuff?

I was debating about whether or not to do this, but after reading this wonderful news I decided that I needed to do something to celebrate.  You will need to do two things to be eligible to win.

(You know my giveaways can never be easy.  I always make you work for your entry and I can already hear you cussing me out under your breath.  At least I’m giving you fair warning.)

  • First, I thought it would be fun to play a little game of Fact or Fiction.  Below you will find 10 statements that may or may not describe me.  All of them are lies except for one.  It is your job to try to figure out which one is the truth.

  • In addition to giving your answer to the game, please leave me the title of the best book you’ve ever read (Fiction or Non-Fiction).  I’m always looking for some good recommendations so I thought why not ask you all for some good picks.

I will do a random drawing and if the person is correct with their guesses to the game, they will win the prize.

Oh, did I forget to mention the prize?  I guess that is kind of an important little piece of information.

It is a $10 gift card from Barnes and Nobles.

Here is an example of what your comment should look like:

I think #1 is true.  (This is not necessarily the right answer, just an example.)

The Lovely Bones is my favorite book.

This contest will be open until Monday, August 4th at 10pm EST.  You do not need a blog to enter, but I am disqualifying all of my family and real-life friends from this contest.  You all know me too well, so it won’t be fair.  Sorry.

FACT OR FICTION?

       1.  One of my favorite fruits is the cantaloupe and one of my least favorites is the pear.

2.  My favorite show is General Hospital.  I tivo it and watch it almost every night before going to bed.

3.  If I was given the choice to live in the middle of the city or the middle of the country, I would choose the country.

4.  My least favorite household chore is unloading the dishwasher.

5.  If I were to win the lottery, the first place I would go would be England.

6.  I had open heart surgery as a child.

7.  I have seen every Ryan Gosling movie ever made.

8.  I got pregnant with my son on a trip to Vegas.

9.   Jack Johnson is my favorite singer.

10.  I wake up everyday around 6:30am.  Mornings are my favorite time of the day.

Remember there is only 1 true statement in the bunch.  If you think you know what it is, leave me a comment with the number and also the title of the best book you’ve ever read (Fiction or Non-Fiction).  Come back next Monday night to find out the truth and who our winner is.  Good luck!

Disney Giveaway

**Please note:  This giveaway is now closed to new entries.

I’m feeling extra generous today, so I am going to offer another giveaway.  This one has two purposes.

1. I am a comment junkie and love to hear from my readers (Did you see the cute little sunflower I just added to try to encourage more comments?)

2. I like to talk about myself.

When I’m not giving my kids reasons they will need therapy and stalking Ryan Gosling online, I am a professional travel planner.

I have been doing this for over 2 years and I absolutely LOVE it.

While I have experience with planning honeymoons, all-inclusive getaways, cruises and more, I spend most of my time helping families with their vacation plans.  My specialty and absolute first love is Walt Disney World.

(The photo below is of me receiving my diploma at the Disney College of Knowledge Graduation Ceremony in January of this past year.  Can you tell how excited I am?!)

It is such a great job because planning vacations is almost as much fun as taking them.  I can help my clients with choosing their hotel, activities, dining reservations and itinerary.  It is like I am vicariously planning my own vacation and it doesn’t get much better than that!!  Plus, I get to stay home with my kids which is an added bonus.

Most of my travel clients are local and I try to provide them with the absolute highest level of service.  I’ll meet with them to give them tips and tricks to make sure that their vacation will be one they remember forever.

I guess that is why I’m still a little leery of marketing my business online to strangers (although many of you I now consider new friends).  I’m not sure how this personalized service that I am used to giving would translate to the internet, but I guess I can figure that out as I go along.

This is my passion (behind my family, friends and Ryan Gosling, of course).

If you are in the market for a vacation or think you may be in the next couple of years, please consider bookmarking my website and utilizing my services.   The best part is that it is totally FREE to work with a travel agent.  I charge no fees because I am paid directly from the supplier (Disney, Apple, Carnival, etc…)

What on earth does all of this have to do with a giveaway?  Well, I have decided to offer an amazing prize to you today.

A $50 Disney gift card

I use the word amazing because to me anything related to Disney is amazing, but I’m biased since they pay me.  This really is a pretty cool card because you have your choice of so many places to use it–the Disney Store at the mall, the Disney theme parks, the Disney cruiseline and Disney Shopping online.

Here is what you need to do to enter to win:

1. Leave me a comment telling me your favorite ride or other attraction at Disney World or why you love the place as much as me (if you have never been to Disney World, just leave me a comment telling me your favorite Disney character).

2.  For a second chance at winning, leave me a comment letting me know that you would like to be signed up for my travel newsletter.  Please only ask to be signed up if you are interested in receiving occasional special offer emails.  I send them out usually about once a month, but absolutely no more than once a week.  ****Please leave me another comment letting me know so you will be entered a second time

3. For those of you with a blog, you can earn another entry by posting about this contest on your blog.  Just make sure you leave me another comment with a link to your post so I know that did this and you will be entered again.

This contest is open to anyone (non-bloggers too) and the last entry must be received no later than Monday, August 4th at 10pm EST.   I will pick only one winner for the gift card.

Good luck!

Project ADD and a Contest

Edited to add:  This contest is now closed to new entries. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.

Do you remember the bathroom redo project that I blogged about a few weeks ago.  Well, I didn’t get too far with it.

I searched high and low (that means the big 3–Target, Linens n Things, and Bed, Bath and Beyond plus some other random stores) for a shower curtain and just couldn’t find anything that I loved.  I know that I shouldn’t be this picky but I just wanted to see something that I instantly knew that I couldn’t live another day until it was hanging in my bathroom.

My husband says I’m crazy when it comes to stuff like this.  “It’s just a shower curtain,” he says.  But really, is it?  I mean we have to look at it numerous times a day. That is our main bathroom.   Shouldn’t it be something that brightens our mood a little every time we see it or is this an unrealistic expectation for a shower curtain?

I’ve found a few that I know I don’t want:

While cute, I really don’t want a panda looking at me when I pee. The same goes for penguins, polar bears and sea creatures.

Here’s where the contest comes in.   I’m looking for a personal shopper to hunt the internet for a shower curtain that you think will be “the one”.  I know this isn’t the standard easy “just leave a comment” giveaway, but I am desperate here. My kids are so sick of looking at shower curtains and I’m sick of them too.

If I end up choosing your pick, you will get a $10 Starbuck’s Gift Card. Contest open until Thursday, July 31st at 4pm EST.

Edited to add:  If there are duplicate links I will pick the person who left the comment first.

You do not have to be a blogger to enter this contest but you do need to leave me a comment with a link if you want to enter.

Just to give you an idea of what you are working with, here is a picture of the current bathroom: (I’m totally over the purple and green and floral look):

I was originally trying to find something beachy and maybe in the blue/brown family, but at this point I’m open to anything.  I’m willing to paint the wall above the wainscoting.

Please don’t send me anything with shells or dolphins or lighthouses.  I’m looking for understated beachy, and not something that screams, “Look at me.  I love the beach.”

Moving right along…so I have this problem.  I get easily sidetracked when it comes to home problems.   A perfect example is the bathroom.  I was totally gung-ho about it until one day I wasn’t.  Then I decided that it was time to buy new living room furniture.

I mean, do I really need to remind you of the sad state of affairs in this room?  For those that missed that post, let me introduce you to the most pathetic chair in the history of chairs:

The furniture is 11 years old and as you can see trying to make it new again by putting a slipcover on it just ended up being more of a disaster.

I optimistically trudged (Is it actually possible to trudge optimistically?) off to the stores to look for some new living room furniture.  It only had to meet a few qualifications.  It had to be durable (for the monkeys children that would be climbing all over it), hide stains (again, because of the monkeys children) and brighten our day when we see it (I’m big on my household items brightening our day if you haven’t noticed).

Most importantly, it could not cost a small fortune.

Well, let me just tell you that there are no sofas in the whole state of Maryland  the world the universe that  fit this description.  I should have known that if I was unable to decide on a $40 shower curtain that picking out furniture was going to be 5 billion times harder.

After a few weeks of shopping, I have pretty much given up all hope of finding anything and this project has now gone by the wayside.

Are you noticing a pattern?

The living room redo project has now been replaced with ”Backyard Landscape ’08″.  I’ve spent hours looking at garden websites, books, etc.  We have drawn up plans (and by plans I mean ridiculous, not to scale pictures of how we want it to look).

We have driven all over town looking at stones, mulch, plants, fountains, lights and whatever else you could possibly think of that could fit in our tiny yard.

Then we did the unthinkable.  We had a truckload of pea gravel delivered to our house.  It sits in our driveway taunting us to actually finish the project.

“Get your shovel.  Move me.  I’m here.  You need to put me somewhere,” I hear the pea gravel whispering when I go out to get the mail.

This is my project for today.  There will be wheelbarrows, shovels and lots of sweat involved.

Please cheer me on so that I can for once see something through to the end.  Please tell me I’m not the only one who is a little ADD when it comes to home projects.

I’ll post some before and after shots when we finish.  We will finish.

In the meantime, head over to 5 Minutes for Mom to check out what other bloggers are working on today.

We Have a Winner! And It’s Me!

No, I am not the winner of the fabulous Movie Madness basket from The Obsession Box Company.  Sadly, I’m going to have to part with it and send it out to one lucky winner.

(I did have to threaten my kids’ with the promise of living the rest of their lives without hands if they so much as even thought of opening it.  Luckily, they are young enought to take these threats seriously because the basket is still intact.)

Anyway, I did a random drawing of all the comments on the contest page, as well as the added participants from Movie Madness.   Here is what came up:

Here are your random numbers:

Timestamp: 2008-07-03 16:58:50 UTC

Congratulations to Bookroomreviews!  I sent you an email requesting your address.  Once I hear back from you,  I’ll be sure to get this lovely basket out to you in the next week or so.

I would also like to mention that I was given this Arte Y Pico award from Two Dogs Running South.

How exciting!  Thanks, Emily!

Here are her reason for giving me this award:

Jen at Daily Mish Mash because of her Friday Eye Candy. THAT alone is worth   many, many awards. Remember Mateo’s BOOTAY? Yeah, that was Jen.

Well, since I am in no way responsible for the cuteness of Matthew McConaughey’s butt, I would like to pass this award along to the rightful recipients:

1.  God

2. His Parents (for having great genes)

3. His Trainer (See pic-right)

4. And of course, Mateo, himself!!!  Keep on keeping on with your cute self!

Don’t forget to come back tomorrow for Friday Eye Candy.  It’s Jenny’sturn to pick the guys.  And she has some really interesting picks and a few old favorites.  You’ll see (If you visit tomorrow.  I know it is a holiday and everything, but I say it’s your patriotic duty to come by and pay tribute to some really hot American men.  Ok, a few are not American, but whatever.)

It’s almost that time again.  Are you ready for some Movie Madness fun?  This month’s carnival will be held this Tuesday, July 1st.  So, get working on your movie related posts. You may do a review of a movie you saw recently, but if you really haven’t seen anything lately worth writing about you may do a review of one of your all-time favorite movies.  Or you may simply make a list of movies that you love in a certain genre.   There are no rules, as long as your post is related to the theme of movies. If you are still unsure of how to play along, head on over to last month’s Movie Madness page.

Now on to the important news–the snacks!  How can we have Movie Madness without the snacks.  Here is this month’s giveaway:

It was generously donated by The Obsession Box Company.  They have over 500 quality gifts to choose from for any age and occasion.

This Movie Madness gift basket includes:

One $5.00 Blockbuster Gift card, 5 bags of microwavable popcorn, and  4 large 8-9oz boxes of Theater candy. Everything you need for a fun Movie Night! All the items are packed in a large popcorn bucket and wrapped with ribbon! A gift the whole family can enjoy!

I’m going to give you the opportunity to enter this contest four times.  Each time you leave one of the following comments your name will be entered to win:

1.  Leave me a comment letting me know your favorite type of movie candy.
2.  Take a look at The Obsession Box Company’s website and leave me another comment letting me know your favorite gift item.  (Leave the comment on this post, but make it separate from any others so it will be counted again.)
3.  Write a little blurb about the Movie Madness Carnival and giveaway on your blog and leave me another comment (on this post) letting me know that you did this.
4.  Participate in Movie Madness on July 1st.  All comments from participants in the MMC will be entered.

So, the more times you comment, the more times you win.  Can you tell how much I love comments?  The maximum amount of entries you may receive is four.  I tried to give opportunities for those of you who don’t have blogs to be able to play along.  The contest will be open until Thursday, July 3rd at 12pm (noon) EST and is you must be a resident of the US and Canadian to enter.

Good luck and I’ll see you back here on Tuesday for Movie Madness!

And The Winner Is…

(I would have put this up last night but I fell asleep on the couch after wasting two hours of my life watching I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.  Although there were a couple of funny parts, I spent more time rolling my eyes at the screen than laughing.  I’d say skip it!)

Before I announce the winner of the giveaway, I would like to thank everyone who participated in the Movie Madness Carnival.  I hope that you all enjoyed reading the different posts.  I know that I did.

I have now officially decided to sign back up for Netflix after reading all the different movies mentioned on your blogs.  There are so many movies that I still haven’t seen.  I feel like a kid in a candy shop adding the flicks to my queue-it’s so exciting!

The next Movie Madness Carnival is planned for Tuesday, July 1st.  So mark your calendars and make sure to come back to participate.  There may just be another giveaway!

Speaking of giveaways, enough of the chit chat.  Let’s get on with the show!

The winner of the Movie Lover’s Gift Basket from Gourmetgiftbaskets.com is…

That means Grace from Kids Health Notes is the winner.  Thanks to everyone who entered and left so many wonderful recommendations for me.  I had no idea people were as passionate about chick flicks (or maybe it was the possibility of free stuff) as I was.

I noticed that there were quite a few films that continued to come up over and over again.  Because I will do pretty much anything to avoid cleaning my house, I went through the nearly 400 comments and pulled out the 10 most popular films and here they are:

  1. The Notebook (no surprise here, what’s not to love)
  2. Pride and Prejudice  (I love this one, but surprised to see so many others listed it since it is so long)
  3. You’ve Got Mail
  4. The Princess Bride (see below for my thoughts on this one)
  5. Titanic
  6. Sleepless in Seattle
  7. Sweet Home Alabama
  8. Pretty Woman
  9. While You Were Sleeping
  10. Notting Hill

And the runners up included Ever After, Dirty Dancing, When Harry Met Sally, Gone With The Wind, Love Actually, Sense and Sensibility, The Lake House, and Return to Me

Many people couldn’t pick just one so it was pretty time consuming to go through the list and count. I’ll have a poll up on the sidebar pretty soon to try to narrow it down to the absolute favorite.  So, stay tuned for that.  I’m sure you are on the edge of your seat with anticipation.

I agree with most of the choices but I have to say that “The Princess Bride” comes awfully close to hobbit territory.  So, I really hesitated even letting it appear on the list, but since so many of you love it, I felt guilty leaving it off.  Believe me I really wanted to leave it off, but fair is fair.  I just have to say that I’ve attempted to watch the movie a couple times, but I just don’t get it.  What am I missing?

Surprisingly, there were a couple of movies that showed up in my comments that I have actually never seen.  I’ll be sure to add them to my Netflix queue when I sign back up again this summer (Note:  We only do Netflix/Blockbuster thing over the summer because there just isn’ t much on tv then and if we didn’t have something on the screen we may just be forced to actually have a conversation and that is a scary thought.)

Here is a list of just a few of the ones that I will be checking out soon:

  • Emma
  • Love Comes Softly
  • 27 Dresses
  • Jane Eyre
  • Somewhere in Time
  • No Reservations
  • Sabrina
  • Persuasion

We actually rented one on the list that someone recommended–Becoming Jane.  I have to say that I cried like a baby at the end, which I wasn’t expecting.  I thought Anne Hathaway was believable as Jane Austen (not that I’ve met her or anything) and I am now really crushing on James McAvoy.  He was seriously charming in his role as Tom Lefroy.  There was one scene in particular that made me gasp with delight.  It was the scene at the ball when Jane was looking for Tom and couldn’t find him, but then he just sort of appears as in the middle of the dance.  It was magical.  There were some dull parts, but overall I really enjoyed this movie.

It’s been so much fun reading all the comments and I hope that there will be more (even though I’m too poor to continue to pay you to do so, just so you know).

Who Says You Can’t Buy Love

You are probably here because you want free stuff.  If not, then what’s wrong with you?  Everyone wants free stuff.

This is my first time bribing people to comment on my blog having a Bloggy Giveaway so I’m keeping it real simple.   I had thoughts of putting together a movie gift basket with popcorn and candy, but that just sounded like a lot of work and I don’t like work.  It would also probably entail waiting in line at the post office and I don’t like lines.

So the slacker in me came up with a much easier option - $20 Amazon Gift Card.

The theme of my giveaway is romantic movies.  I love them and although I feel like I’ve probably seen them all, I’m sure there may be one that I may have missed.  Here are a few of my favorites:

  1. The Notebook
  2. Titanic
  3. Sleepless in Seattle
  4. Serendipity
  5. Pride and Predjudice (the Colin Firth/BBC version)

I’m sure there are plenty of others that you could add to this list.  I can already hear you rattling them off now.  Well, sloooowww down cowpoke.  Let me tell you the rules of this contest first:

1.  In the comment section, post your favorite romantic movie.  It can be drama or comedy.  Basically as long as the main plot is love, you’re good to go.

2.  Recommendations of movies containing Hobbits or Wookiees are not permitted.  Sorry, but I don’t particularly like these types of creatures and you will be disqualified if you enter anything remotely related to this genre.

3.  Men and women can enter as I know there are a lot of guys out there who love chick flicks but just don’t want to admit it.

4.  Winners may spend their $20 Amazon gift card on anything they want except diapers.  Diapers are not a permitted choice of prize. (Actually you can spend it on anything you want because there is no way I can check this, but it would make me feel a lot better if I knew you were spending it on something fun for yourself and not the kids.)

5.  You may only enter one time.  Please make sure to leave a valid email address so that I can get in touch with you.  I will choose a winner (via random draw) on Friday evening at 11pm EST.  Contest limited to residents of the US only.

Good luck!  Thanks to Bloggy Giveaways for hosting the Bloggy Giveaways Quarterly Carnival!
