Friday Eye Candy: Blake’s Picks
Alright ladies, step aside. This week is for the guys.
A few weeks ago, I received an email from Blake. He wrote:
“I thought I’d send my own list of eye candy. I realize it’s markedly different than the lists that most of your other readers submit, but I thought I’d do it just for fun.”
Then he went on to list all of the women on his celebrity laminated list. I decided to go ahead and feature Blake’s list for a couple of reasons.
1. I like Blake. He leaves me lots of nice, funny comments. You all know I’m a sucker for comments. Plus, I really enjoy the movie reviews on his site.
2. You all said you wouldn’t mind too much if we took a break from the sexy guys and featured some gorgeous women.
3. I think we can appreciate the beauty of the female form and I approve (for the most part) all of his picks. This is very important because if he sent me a bunch of Hooters girls, porn stars and swimsuit models, I would have to decline. I appreciate that he took the time to explain his picks, and didn’t seem to just pick them because they had a nice rack. (Even though many of them do.) I left the explanations on there so you could see the reasons for his choices.
Without further ado, here is our first Female Version of Friday Eye Candy.
1. Angelina Jolie - Call me a cliche, but come on. She’s stunning. I’ve been a fan since her Gia performance on HBO. She’s also a wicked talented actress (see ‘Girl, Interrupted’ and ‘A Mighty Heart’ for her greatest performances).

2. Natalie Portman - A Harvard grad, also wicked talented and gorgeous. She also takes a lot of risks in her career that usually end up paying off (see ‘Paris, Je T’aime, and ‘The Darjeeling Limited’ for some really great performances). We’ll just pretend that Star Wars thing never happened.

3. Jennifer Connelly - While her acting chops can blow me away, she’s pretty much just great to look at. And her choice in movies keeps me coming back for more (see ‘Little Children’ and ‘Requiem For a Dream’).

4. Kate Winslet - She won me over in Titanic (understandably so, since I was like, 15 when that came out), but it seems to me she just gets better as we go along (see ‘Little Children,’ ‘Finding Neverland,’ ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,’ pretty much anything she’s in).

5. Julianne Moore - So, I might have a thing for older women. But Julianne Moore definitely makes my list. She’s just hot (see ‘Magnolia’ and ‘The Hours’).

6. Keira Knightley - Young, British, brilliant in her acting, and I wish she was my girlfriend (see ‘Atonement’ and ‘Love Actually’).

7. Vera Farmiga - Mark my words, this woman will totally win an Oscar sometime soon (see ‘The Departed’)

8. Monica Belucci - She had me at ‘The Matrix 2,’ but truth be told, I’m not familiar with her other work.

The last few make me feel really trashy. But I’m 23. So, I can still grow out of it.
9. Lindsay Lohan

10. Lauren Conrad

For this weeks Aloha Friday question, I’m going to ask you which one of Blake’s picks is your favorite. In other words, if you had to switch teams for a night, which female celebrity (Blake’s or otherwise) do you find most attractive?
Just a quick reminder….Next week I will feature all of your choices for Sugar Daddies (i.e. older gentlemen). So you’ll definitely want to remember to check back.

A Whole Lot of Random
This post is really going to live up to my blog name of mish mash. I just have all these random thoughts floating around in my head that aren’t really worthy of an entire post, so I’m throwing them all together here. Please don’t look for any purpose or cohesive theme, because you will find none.

I was unloading the dishwasher when my daughter walked through the kitchen. She slipped on a little bit of the water that had dripped off a bowl I had just taken out.
After she regained her composure, she looks at me with a flabberghasted expression and sighed loudly.
Then she proceeds to say to me in her most agitated voice, “Mom, you really need write up a wet floor sign and post it when you have the time.”
I don’t know why but this just struck me as funny. I guess I pictured myself getting out the markers and construction paper and drawing that funny looking guy in the triangle. Sure, I’ll pencil it in right after folding the laundry, cooking dinner and the myriad of other endless tasks I have on my to-do list.

You know I didn’t really think that much of the Miley Cyrus bare back pictures when everyone was making such a fuss about them. Yes, they were a bit unnecessarily sexy for her age, but nothing too shocking.
At the time, everyone was blaming the photographer for taking advantage of a young, innocent girl.
Well, I wonder if people are still singing the same tune after seeing the latest provocative pictures .(Note: Not the one to the right. I refuse to post such filth on my blog. The only wet t-shirt pictures that you will see here will be of guys on Friday Eye Candy–never, ever Disney teen stars turned tramps. Why? Because it is my blog and I make all the rules, so there!)
We always hear how mortified and shocked she is when her private photos are hacked and making their rounds online, but I just can’t feel that sorry for her. Stop taking them or if you did it in the past and are regretful, then just DELETE all traces of them. I mean I’m almost wondering if this is some sort of crazy publicity stunt. If so, HELLO?? Did you not see what happened to Britney Spears??!! Taking your clothes off is not the answer, Miley. Show some class and cover up.

Last night for dinner we had pork chops, beans, noodles and apple sauce.
I love this meal for one main reason. I get to tell my kids and husband that we are having “Pork Chopppss and Aaaaple shauce (in my best Peter Brady/Bogart voice).
It was the highlight of my day if that tells you anything.

Do you think it is really possible to be possessed by a demon? I found myself wondering this yesterday a few times after watching my son and his hellish behavior. I think we need to move on from time outs to getting a priest over here to do an exorcism if things don’t improve. (I was going to post a picture of that girl from The Exorcist, but she is surprisingly scary if you actually look at her closely. I thought I’d spare you the trauma.)

Did anyone see the homerun derby? Grady Sizemore and Chase Utley were in it and looking fine. Very fine, indeed. They didn’t win though. :(
While we are on the subject of my cute baseball player list, I got a few comments that the Nick Markakis picture I posted really didn’t do him justice. Natalie (no link/no website) was kind enough to email me a few more to share with you. There were many but I think this was my favorite:

My Tivo didn’t record Big Brother for us on Sunday when we were at the concert. We forgot to set it to record the new season but were hoping that it would be smart enough to know that we always watch Big Brother.
Either Tivo isn’t as smart as I give Him credit to be or else He is trying to send me a message that I shouldn’t bother with it this year.
Every summer since it first premiered we have wasted countless hours on this completely mind-numbing and useless show. Sure, it has provided a few entertaining moments (especially the seasons with Dr. Will Kirby) but for the most part I think I’m outgrowing this midsummer tradition.
Did anyone watch on Sunday? Should I tune in or should I leave my fate in the hands of the almighty Tivo?

Speaking of wasting time on things, I don’t have a lot of praise for The Thirteenth Tale. It got a lot of great reviews, but I just couldn’t seem to get into the story or the characters.
The story had a lot to do with twins and the “twin bond”. Since I’m not a twin I just felt like I couldn’t get the connection the author kept referring to over and over and over again.
I only continued to push through because my book club loved it so much. Well, now I’m not only annoyed with the book, but also my book club for recommending it so highly.
This book has been compared to Jane Eyre and it was mentioned many times in the book, so my book club thought we should read this one next. I’m currently on page 80 and already enjoying it far more than The Thirteenth Tale, so I am hopeful that it will be a better read. I’m guessing it will be since it is a classic and all, but now I’m skeptical.
Has anyone read either of these books? What did you think of them?

Speaking of twins, what do you think of the names that Brangelina (that was for you Non-Soccer Mom) gave to their new twins?
Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline
I still haven’t made up my mind about them. What’s a Knox? Why must celebrity parents give their children such odd names. I think Angelina has a thing with the letter “x”. First Maddox, then Pax and now Knox. I just see that getting confusing since they all kind of sound the same.
I don’t know about you but I just can’t wait to see the whole brood trying to get from here to there. I know there will be nannies and bodyguards and arms full of babies. It will be such a fun spectacle to see!
That’s it for now. Was that enough random for you for one day? Do you believe I went a whole post without mentioning Ryan Gosling? Oops, I guess I didn’t really. Oh well.
Thursday Thirteen: My Most Anticipated Movies List

With the summer blockbuster season quickly approaching, I thought it would be fun to make a list of the 13 movies that I’m most excited about that will be coming soon to theaters. Unless I win the lottery, I probably wil only see one or two of them, but that is ok.
My Most Anticipated Movies of 2008:
1. Wanted–I’m really not much of an action movie lover, but then I saw the trailer (see pic below of James McAvoy) and guess what??!! I’m there. This may be worth the $10 a ticket and $20 snacks. The only thing that may ruin it is watching him kissing all over Angelina. But I’ll have to just put up with it.

2. Hancock–As many times as I’ve seen this trailer, I still crack up every time I see Will Smith throw that whale back in the ocean. Having Jason Bateman in it doesn’t hurt either. This should be FUNNY!

3. Sex and the City–I hope this one lives up to the hype. It will be hard to match the greatness of the show, but I think it will be good. They just better give Big and Carrie a happy ending.
4. The Accidental Husband–I’m a sucker for a good romantic comedy. With the leading men being Denny Duquette and Mr. Darcy, what’s not to love??

5. The Happening–I’ve loved just about everything that M. Night Shyamalan has done (with the exception of the terrible Lady in the Water–that was unwatchable). Summer isn’t the same without a disaster movie, so I’m really looking forward to this one!

6 Chronicles of Narnia-Prince Caspian–The first one was surprisingly good. I say surprisingly because I don’t typically like the fantasy genre. I hope the second one is just as great. I will miss seeing Mr. Tumnus/James McAvoy
(I’d break my hobbit rule for him) though. Still Cute:
7. Kung Fu Panda–My kids are really excited about this one and it does look kind of funny.
8. Revolutionary Road–Unless this one gets horrible reviews I’m there. This is the closest I’m going to get to a sequel to Titanic. I think Leo and Kate are very talented on their own, but I love them together!

9. Eagle Eye–I’m putting this Shia film on my list instead of the Indiana Jones movie and I’m sure that sounds pretty insane. I’m just not a huge fan of the other Indy movies or Harrison Ford, so I’m excited for this one more. Shia is back working again with “Disturbia” director D.J. Caruso playing a young slacker whose twin brother has died mysteriously. Rachel (Monaghan) finds that her child is missing, and soon the two strangers realize that they have been framed as terrorists. Forced to become members of a cell that has plans to carry out a political assassination, they must work together to extricate themselves while being led by a mysterious voice.

10. The Time Traveler’s Wife–This is the only movie on this list that I can say for sure that I will be seeing in the theater. I really liked the book and am so curious how they are going to make it into a movie. Plus, I’ll pretty much see anything Rachel McAdams makes. Love her!!

11. Zak and Miri Make a Porno–I hesitated putting this one on the list, but I’m guessing with Seth Rogan and Kevin Smith behind it that it should be amusing. Plus, I’m curious to see how funny Jason Mewes (Jay of the Jay and Silent Bob movies) is now that he has supposedly cleaned up his act.
12. Curious Case Of Benjamin Buttons–This one is directed by David Fincher who did Zodiac (which I loved). It stars Brad Pitt as a the title character. He begins the story as an old man, then begins physically aging in reverse. It’s based on a story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Sounds intriguing.
13. Mamma Mia–I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t seen the musical on stage yet. But I hadn’t seen Chicago and I loved the movie. Sometime I think it is better to see the movie first because I’m sure that seeing it on stage is always better, so it is probably a disappointment to see the movie afterward. Kinda like reading the book and then seeing the movie. This one looks really good. (Two new Colin Firth movies–yay!!) Here’s the trailer in case you haven’t seen it yet:
So which movie (on my list or otherwise) are you most excited about? Leave your answer in my comments section.
