Friday Eye Candy: Misty’s Picks
This week’s picks are from Misty at Rainy Day in May. Misty sent me her list about a month or so ago and I’ve been looking forward to posting it ever since. She picked some winners. Take a look and then head on over to her blog to tell her thank you for having such GREAT taste in men.
James McAvoy

Gerard Butler

Colin Firth

Jude Law

Jared Leto (Note from Jen: He will always and forever be Jordan Catalano to me.)

Ewan MacGregor

Ralph Fiennes

Orlando Bloom

Stewart Townsend
Luke Wilson

For this week’s Aloha Friday, I would like you to think about your favorite celebrity men with accents. Misty has provided you with quite a few suggestions.
My question is:
If you could pick any cute celebrity with an accent to give you a tour of his/her home country, who would you pick? I guess this is not only about the guy/girl, but also the place you would like to visit.
Combining two of my favorite things: Cute guys and traveling! I’d like to do a theme of men with accents in the next couple of weeks so I need some help thinking of some more ideas. Let me know who you would like to be your tourguide.
I’m always taking suggestions. If you would like to see your list featured on an upcoming Friday Eye Candy blog, just email me at dailymishmash @ gmail dot com.
A Month of McAvoy
This summer I embarked on a mission: to see every James McAvoy movie ever made. Can you please tell my husband that I really do have goals.
Prior to this little McAvoy Film Festival (Yes, I know I’m a dork for calling it that) I had already seen Becoming Jane, Narnia, and Atonement, and I was hooked. I needed more McAvoy and I needed it badly. Here is what I thought of the movies I saw this summer:
Starter for 10: I’d like to thank John for recommending this movie to me. He said it would be perfect for my “McAvoy fix” and I have to agree.
To be honest, I wasn’t expecting much with this one. It appeared to be a ”B” movie (even though one of the producers was Tom Hanks) and it didn’t get much praise or hype when it came out.
I’d have to say this is the one that I enjoyed probably the most out of all his movies. I’m a sucker for a good romantic comedy, and although this isn’t the cream of the crop in that genre, it was fun to watch.
It was about a guy who is starting his first year in college and is obsessed with starring on a television quiz show. There is a lot of romance and plenty of cute moments like this:

If you like romantic comedies, and more importantly British humor, you will probably enjoy this one. The soundtrack was really good too, since it has a ton of really fun alternative rock 80’s music.
My overall rating would be 4 STARS ****
The next McAvoy movie that I saw this month was Wanted. I had high hopes for this movie since I had heard so many great things about it. Don’t you just hate when a movie is over-hyped. Most hardly ever live up to the expectations put on them and this movie was no different.
I knew going into it that it was an action/adventure movie, and although this isn’t typically my favorite genre I knew what was coming and I wasn’t expecting Becoming Jane. I was just hoping for a fun, fast-paced movie with lots of scenes like this:

Sadly, even this scene couldn’t save this movie. There was way too much violence in it for my taste. I don’t like to see my McAvoy being beaten to a bloody pulp and that was a BIG part of the movie.
Plus, it was one of those movies where certain scenes are just plain ridiculous. You know what I’m talking about. The scenes where everyone should be dead but surprisingly the two or three main characters in the movie somehow miraculously survive. I really can’t stand when that happens. My husband and I found ourselves laughing hysterically during some of the more serious action sequences because they were that absurd. (My apologies to anyone who may have been distracted by our cackling.) Truly, this movie is just beyond stupid.
I would give Wanted 2 STARS ** (Ok, maybe 2 1/2 because now that I’m thinking of it there was this sequence of the movie with James in a pullover sweater (I love pullovers on guys because they just look like they are inviting you to hug them. I know that is very weird.) and he just looked amazing for a good chunk of the movie, so 2 1/2 STARS.
Here is the pic of said sweater but he doesn’t look very cuddly in it here:

Our McAvoy movie watching took on a more serious mood with the next flick. We finally got around to seeing The Last King of Scotland. I say “we” but I really mean that “I” finally got around to seeing this movie and my husband agreed to sit next to me after much begging and pleading. Surprisingly, he isn’t a big fan of movies like this even if they do star adorable Scottish actors.
Although I didn’t love this movie, I am glad that I took the time to watch it because I really didn’t know a whole lot about this period in the history of Uganda. I guess that makes it sound like it took place a long time ago, but it was really just the 1970’s.
Although James did a phenomenal job in his role as the fictitious personal physician to dictator Idi Amin, I’d have to say that Forrest Whitaker completely blew me away with his performance. He was able to make you like the character of Amin while at the same time fearing him. He deserves all the praise and awards that he received for this role.
Like Wanted, this movie has its share of violence and torture. It was very difficult to watch in parts and there are a few scenes that wil stay with me forever (although I wish they didn’t). I wouldn’t say this movie was as good as Hotel Rwanda or Blood Diamond (other depressing Africa movies) but I did enjoy it enough. In keeping with the trend, here’s a pic of McAvoy from the film:

My final rating would be 3 STARS ***
Lastly, we watched the much lighter and family friendly Penelope. I liked this movie for what it was-fluff.
I guess it was trying to be a modern fairytale about liking yourself for who you are.
I probably would have never watched it if it wasn’t for this:

His eyes just looked extra gorgeous in this movie. I’m not sure why. Was it good lighting? Was he wearing contacts? I don’t know but I was just mesmerized by them. Not too crazy about the hair, though. (James, please don’t ever wear it like that again, ok? Thanks.)
Anyway, if you are in the mood for something light and romantic, this movie fits the bill. My kids just thought it was ok. I guess there weren’t enough talking animals doing kung fu in it for their liking, but I really did find it an enjoyable watch. I only have one complaint (other than his hair). Why didn’t he have his Scottish accent in it? There were a lot of people with accents in the movie. Why did he have to put on a fake American accent. It annoyed me the whole time.
I’d still give it 4 STARS ****
Well, you would think that I’d be all McAvoy’d out after watching all these movies but I’m not. I think that is the problem with cute (and talented) actors, they just leave you wanting more and more. Kind of like a drug, or Coke Zero. Good thing I have this videoto keep me from going into withdrawl.
I put a new poll up in my sidebar. Vote and then leave me a comment letting me know your favorite McAvoy movie.
Friday Eye Candy: Firah’s Picks
It’s that time again… Friday Eye Candy. Wooohooo!!!
I have to say that this was just what the doctor ordered. I really needed a pick me up since I’m on day 3 without my beloved Coke Zero and it is just about killing me. This week’s compilation did the trick nicely.
Today’s list comes from Firah of Essentielle Elegance.
I had a lot of fun with her list because quite a few of my favorite guys were on there. One question that I did want to know was whether she preferred Ryan Gosling with or without a beard. Here was her answer:
“Oooh..that’s an interesting question..usually, I’d prefer him clean cut but there was something about his scruff in Half Nelson that was actually quite..erm..attractive…hehe…so it’s a toss up I guess…”
So just for fun, I thought I’d take a poll. You will find it at the bottom of this Firah’s list.
1) Ryan Gosling (Pictured both ways)

2) Hugh Jackman

3) Josh Harnett

4) Josh Duhamel

5) James Marsden

6) James Mcavoy

7.) Jesse Spencer

Note from Firah: And here are a couple of really odd ones simply cause they make me feel like a cradle snatcher:
1) Zac Efron

2) Chace Crawford

Remember: If you would like to see your list featured on my blog, email me at dailymishmash (at) gmail (dot) com.
Who is your favorite guy on Firah’s list? Leave a comment and then head on over to her blog to say hi.
Oh, and don’t forget to take my very important poll:
WFMW: Motivation To Exercise
Remember this post. Well, I think I’ve moved on to Stage Six. I wasn’t aware that there was a Stage Six until yesterday, but now I know that there is one.
I’m not sure what to call stage 6. I’m thinking maybe Humiliation. This is the stage where the skirt that was fitting a bit snug last year is unable to be zippered, and when I attempted to jam myself into said skirt to wear it the zipper actually burst open and is now broken. I am not lying. I wish I was, but I’m not.
So not only do I feel fat, but I have a broken skirt to prove it.
Things have to change. And it is going to take some extreme measures.
For one, no more Coke Zero.
Ok, when I say no more, obviously I don’t really mean no more as in none. I just mean that I am not buying it for myself anymore. I will buy Cherry Zero for my husband because I hate it and won’t touch the stuff, so it isn’t a temptation having it in the house.
I know that Zero is a diet beverage but there are studies that have shown that even diet sodas can cause weight gain. Of course, I read about this after becoming a Zero addict. I swear I may have to go through detox and rehab to get this monkey off my back, but I am committed to dropping these unwanted pounds so if that is what it takes that is what I will do. Anyone know of a 12 Step Soda drinkers program out there?
The next step in my extreme measures plan is to start exercising. I know, I know. What am I thinking, right? But sometimes a girl’s gotta do what a girl’s gotta do.
This is where the Works for Me Wednesday comes in. I just discovered that Netflix has a whole collection of exercise videos to borrow. I also see that many of them are available with the “Watch Now” feature. This is great news because it doesn’t take too much time away from my other goal for July–to watch every James McAvoy movie ever made.
I had my husband buy a cable to hook the laptop up to the tv and now I can try out all these different exercise dvds to see which ones I actually like doing (there’s got to be some form of exercise that I can find enjoyable). I love variety so I’m hoping this will be just the motivation I need to finding a fun workout.
Plus, I may find one I enjoy enough to actually purchase. I am going to be very careful about this though, because we all remember what happened the last time I bought an exercise dvd. And I refuse to make that mistake twice.
I’m setting a goal of doing 3 dvds by next Wednesday. To give myself some accountability, I am going to write up a short review for each one I do. I promise to try not to hate all of them because they are too hard and I feel like I want to die when I do them. Considering I haven’t exercised in months, I’m guessing this is how I will feel about each of them no matter how great they are.
That’s what works for me. To see what works for others, visit Rocks in My Dryer.

Spoke Too Soon
Well, it looks like the rumors are true. The “mystery brunette” is Ryan’s new girlfriend.

Boooooo!!! Hissss!!
Yes, I thought there was still a chance for a McGosling reunion. Didn’t you?!! Yes, I’m a delusional person at heart.
Please don’t leave me a comment telling me that I’m insane. I already know that I am. I also know that he has the right to move on. I know it’s been over a year since he and Rachel McAdams were last photographed together. But I still held out a little hope. Now all my dreams are shattered.
So, while we are on the subject of my delusions, it won’t shock you that I’ve already cast this mystery brunette as the role of Martha. Don’t you remember Martha? She was the girl from The Notebook that that brought Noah meals and that he sleeps with just to pass the time until Allie/Rachel comes back to him.
So, now all we need is Rachel to find her James Marsden/Lon Hammond guy and we are well on our way to hearing those seven beautiful words: “It wasn’t over! It still isn’t over!”
Until then, I will mourn. I do not want to see anymore hand-holding pictures. And please, I beg of you, for the love of all that is right with the world, please do not EVER show them kissing. My broken heart just can’t bear to see it.
I was planning to clean out my pantry tonight, but I’m too depressed to tackle it. Instead, I’ll hit the ice cream and watch The Notebook and remember better times. :(
Scratch that…I’m going to watch “Starter for 10″ again (just watched it last night and I really liked it, but will wait until the August Movie Madness to post the full review).
I’ve just decided that James McAvoy has taken the number one spot on my laminated list.
Gosling out, McAvoy in.
Friday Eye Candy: The Guys Named J Edition
For this week’s Friday Eye Candy I was having trouble coming up with the #4 person on my list. I have no problem naming the first three:
These are my solids and will probably remain unchanged for a very long time. The rest of the list seems to change daily depending on my mood. Other than a few “Colins” and “Matts”, I found that most of the leftover celebrity hotties on my list all have names that begin with the letter “J”.
Here they are in no particular order. Enjoy:
Josh Holloway

John Cusack

Josh Duhamel

Joshua Jackson (He’ll always be Pacey Witter to me)

John Krasinski (He’ll always be Jim Halpert to me)

Jake Gyllenhal

Joaquin Phoenix

Am I forgetting anyone? Let me know you favorite “J” hottie in the comments.
Friday Eye Candy: James Mmmm McAvoy
Happy Friday! Welcome to another week of glorious eye candy. Last week, I promised you a James McAvoy video and I wouldn’t want to let you down. I know you’ve been waiting for this all week. I keep this video bookmarked to cheer me up whenever I feel sad (or get angry with Ryan) and I suggest you do the same. Enjoy!
Once again the disclaimers: I didn’t make this video and don’t condone smoking. Cigarettes kill people!! Don’t do it!! Even if cute boys do it–you are smarter than that. Now that we’ve got that out of the way, here are my favorite parts of this video–0:30, 0:46, 1:11, 2:00, 3:13 and just about every other second!!!)
If you’d like to play along, leave me a comment and let me know that you posted some “eye candy” at your blog. Then I’ll add you to this list:
Some other eye candy you may want to check out:
Beth is talking Sex and the City and can’t stop mentioning Jason Lewis (aka Smith Jerrod)
The girls at Pop Sugar have The Bad Boys of eye candy (with Sawyer leading the pack) and a sequel to that list (can’t forget Sayid).
(Ok, speaking of Lost, how cool was it when they “moved the island” last night!! )
Mumof4 just posted her “laminated list” with Josh Duhamel (among others)
Yet another “list” from The Brunette Blog
Thursday Thirteen: My Most Anticipated Movies List

With the summer blockbuster season quickly approaching, I thought it would be fun to make a list of the 13 movies that I’m most excited about that will be coming soon to theaters. Unless I win the lottery, I probably wil only see one or two of them, but that is ok.
My Most Anticipated Movies of 2008:
1. Wanted–I’m really not much of an action movie lover, but then I saw the trailer (see pic below of James McAvoy) and guess what??!! I’m there. This may be worth the $10 a ticket and $20 snacks. The only thing that may ruin it is watching him kissing all over Angelina. But I’ll have to just put up with it.

2. Hancock–As many times as I’ve seen this trailer, I still crack up every time I see Will Smith throw that whale back in the ocean. Having Jason Bateman in it doesn’t hurt either. This should be FUNNY!

3. Sex and the City–I hope this one lives up to the hype. It will be hard to match the greatness of the show, but I think it will be good. They just better give Big and Carrie a happy ending.
4. The Accidental Husband–I’m a sucker for a good romantic comedy. With the leading men being Denny Duquette and Mr. Darcy, what’s not to love??

5. The Happening–I’ve loved just about everything that M. Night Shyamalan has done (with the exception of the terrible Lady in the Water–that was unwatchable). Summer isn’t the same without a disaster movie, so I’m really looking forward to this one!

6 Chronicles of Narnia-Prince Caspian–The first one was surprisingly good. I say surprisingly because I don’t typically like the fantasy genre. I hope the second one is just as great. I will miss seeing Mr. Tumnus/James McAvoy
(I’d break my hobbit rule for him) though. Still Cute:
7. Kung Fu Panda–My kids are really excited about this one and it does look kind of funny.
8. Revolutionary Road–Unless this one gets horrible reviews I’m there. This is the closest I’m going to get to a sequel to Titanic. I think Leo and Kate are very talented on their own, but I love them together!

9. Eagle Eye–I’m putting this Shia film on my list instead of the Indiana Jones movie and I’m sure that sounds pretty insane. I’m just not a huge fan of the other Indy movies or Harrison Ford, so I’m excited for this one more. Shia is back working again with “Disturbia” director D.J. Caruso playing a young slacker whose twin brother has died mysteriously. Rachel (Monaghan) finds that her child is missing, and soon the two strangers realize that they have been framed as terrorists. Forced to become members of a cell that has plans to carry out a political assassination, they must work together to extricate themselves while being led by a mysterious voice.

10. The Time Traveler’s Wife–This is the only movie on this list that I can say for sure that I will be seeing in the theater. I really liked the book and am so curious how they are going to make it into a movie. Plus, I’ll pretty much see anything Rachel McAdams makes. Love her!!

11. Zak and Miri Make a Porno–I hesitated putting this one on the list, but I’m guessing with Seth Rogan and Kevin Smith behind it that it should be amusing. Plus, I’m curious to see how funny Jason Mewes (Jay of the Jay and Silent Bob movies) is now that he has supposedly cleaned up his act.
12. Curious Case Of Benjamin Buttons–This one is directed by David Fincher who did Zodiac (which I loved). It stars Brad Pitt as a the title character. He begins the story as an old man, then begins physically aging in reverse. It’s based on a story by F. Scott Fitzgerald. Sounds intriguing.
13. Mamma Mia–I’m ashamed to admit that I haven’t seen the musical on stage yet. But I hadn’t seen Chicago and I loved the movie. Sometime I think it is better to see the movie first because I’m sure that seeing it on stage is always better, so it is probably a disappointment to see the movie afterward. Kinda like reading the book and then seeing the movie. This one looks really good. (Two new Colin Firth movies–yay!!) Here’s the trailer in case you haven’t seen it yet:
So which movie (on my list or otherwise) are you most excited about? Leave your answer in my comments section.

Our List of The Top Ten Romantic Movies of All Time
All good things must come to an end. My Bloggy Giveaway is officially closed to any new entries. According to a random drawing, the winner is……
Random Integer Generator
Here are your random numbers:
274
Timestamp: 2008-04-26 04:16:35 UTC
That means Grace from Kids Health Notes is the winner. Thanks to everyone who entered and left so many wonderful recommendations for me. I had no idea people were as passionate about chick flicks (or maybe it was the possibility of free stuff) as I was.
I noticed that there were quite a few films that continued to come up over and over again. Because I will do pretty much anything to avoid cleaning my house, I went through the nearly 400 comments and pulled out the 10 most popular films and here they are:
- The Notebook (no surprise here, what’s not to love)
- Pride and Prejudice (I love this one, but surprised to see so many others listed it since it is so long)
- You’ve Got Mail
- The Princess Bride (see below for my thoughts on this one)
- Titanic
- Sleepless in Seattle
- Sweet Home Alabama
- Pretty Woman
- While You Were Sleeping
- Notting Hill
And the runners up included Ever After, Dirty Dancing, When Harry Met Sally, Gone With The Wind, Love Actually, Sense and Sensibility, The Lake House, and Return to Me.
Many people couldn’t pick just one so it was pretty time consuming to go through the list and count. I’ll have a poll up on the sidebar pretty soon to try to narrow it down to the absolute favorite. So, stay tuned for that. I’m sure you are on the edge of your seat with anticipation.
I agree with most of the choices but I have to say that “The Princess Bride” comes awfully close to hobbit territory. So, I really hesitated even letting it appear on the list, but since so many of you love it, I felt guilty leaving it off. Believe me I really wanted to leave it off, but fair is fair. I just have to say that I’ve attempted to watch the movie a couple times, but I just don’t get it. What am I missing?
Surprisingly, there were a couple of movies that showed up in my comments that I have actually never seen. I’ll be sure to add them to my Netflix queue when I sign back up again this summer (Note: We only do Netflix/Blockbuster thing over the summer because there just isn’ t much on tv then and if we didn’t have something on the screen we may just be forced to actually have a conversation and that is a scary thought.)
Here is a list of just a few of the ones that I will be checking out soon:
- Emma
- Love Comes Softly
- 27 Dresses
- Jane Eyre
- Somewhere in Time
- No Reservations
- Sabrina
- Persuasion
We actually rented one on the list that someone recommended–Becoming Jane. I have to say that I cried like a baby at the end, which I wasn’t expecting. I thought Anne Hathaway was believable as Jane Austen (not that I’ve met her or anything) and I am now really crushing on James McAvoy. He was seriously charming in his role as Tom Lefroy. There was one scene in particular that made me gasp with delight. It was the scene at the ball when Jane was looking for Tom and couldn’t find him, but then he just sort of appears as in the middle of the dance. It was magical. There were some dull parts, but overall I really enjoyed this movie.
It’s been so much fun reading all the comments and I hope that there will be more (even though I’m too poor to continue to pay you to do so, just so you know).
