Top Five Tuesday

I wasn’t really planning on doing another post so soon, but I saw this fun little meme over at Supernanny Where Are You and since I was looking for something to do to avoid going to the grocery store I just had to participate.

It’s about movies (Top 5 Favorites) and since I love lists and I love movies, I just couldn’t resist.

Plus, I thought this would be a great post to promote my Movie Madness Carnival.  I finally picked a date for next month.  It is going to be on Tuesday, August 5th.  Click on the little banner on my sidebar for more information.

Anyway, back to my list.  My husband says I have about twenty movies in my top five, but I disagree.  There are twenty in my top ten, but only five in my top five.  So there!

These are the absolute favorites, the movies I could watch over and over again and never get sick of.  These are the ones I choose to watch when I’m feeling sick for comfort (especially #2) and the ones that will make me laugh and cry no matter how many times I see them.

I thought I’d list them in the form of youtube videos just to be annoying for fun.

1.  The Notebook-It’s hard to pick just one scene.  The kiss scene is of course my favorite, but I really love this one too:

2.  The Burbs–A classic dark comedy. Yes, it is extremely cheesy, but I love it!  Plus, it is nice to watch a Tom Hanks movie where he doesn’t have a fake accent.

3.  Titanic–Again, the kiss scene trumps all but this is another good one:

4.  Meet the Parents–I laughed from beginning to end with this movie.  It is hard to pick a scene that stands alone as being the funniest because they build off of each other, but here is one that sort of stands alone:

5.  Pride and Prejudice–I have to post this scene of Mr. Darcy and Miss Elizabeth unexpectedly running into each other at Pemberley. It is law. No other scene will do. Great, great movie!!

Looking at this list, I just can’t believe there isn’t even one traditional romantic comedy on there.   I love romantic comedies, so my honorable mentions include Sleepless in Seattle, You’ve Got Mail, Only You, and many more.

Enjoying The Ride

Eleven years ago today, I married my husband.

I could sit here and write a bunch of sappy things about him and how much he means to me.  You know what, that would all be true, but that just isn’t me.  Or him for that matter.

The thing is-we’ve had our share of ups and downs. I guess you could say our relationship could be compared to a rollercoaster ride.

In the beginning, it felt like a wooden coaster.  It was a very shaky and rough ride, with a LOT of bumps.  But over the years (we’ve actually been together for sixteen), we’ve moved on to riding a steel coaster.

It still has the ups and downs, but for the most part it is a smooth ride.  And there may even be a loop thrown in there every once in awhile (although I’m not sure what that represents but it’s probably good).

So, I’d like to quote the words of my favorite movie ever because although I could have bought him a card, I feel like this is better for the environment and isn’t that what a card is anyway–stealing someone else’s words to tell your feelings.

They speak the truth and are more romantic than a cheesy card could ever be.

“Well that’s what we do. We fight. You tell me when I’m being an arrogant son of a bitch and I tell you when you are being a pain in the ass.  Which you are 99% of the time. I’m not afraid to hurt your feelings.  You have like a two second rebound rate and you’re back do doing the next pain in the ass thing.  So it’s not going to be easy. It’s going to be really hard. And we’re going to have to work at this every day.  But I want to do that because I want you. I want all of you, forever, you and me every day.”

Eleven years.  Sixteen years.  Sixty years.  I don’t want to ever get off this ride.

PS We were married in the olden days before digital cameras, so I had to take a picture of my wedding album.  That’s pretty sad, isn’t it?

PSS John Mayer still hasn’t contacted me about the concert.   :(

PSSS Here’s a link to the video from that scene.  God, I love that scene.

PSSSS  I’m getting a little obnoxious with PSing lately.  ENOUGH!!!

Best Movie Kisses

Since I haven’t seen a movie in a long time that is worthy of writing a review for,  I thought I’d make a list of my Top 5 Movie Kisses.  They really aren’t in any particular order, but you can probably guess my absolute favorite:

1.  The Notebook–Ok, if you hadn’t guessed by now, what took you so long??  This kiss is my absolute favorite.  Actually, I love every kiss from this movie, but this one is the best.  How can it not be?  There is really no comparison when it comes to this kiss.

2.  Serendipity- A cute movie, a sweet kiss, and of course, John Cusack (again in some sort of precipitation).

3.  Gone With the Wind–A classic kiss!  I just watched it on youtube and I love how Scarlett’s all “Fiddledeedee” and Rhett’s all “None of the fools you’ve known have kissed you like this—have they? ”  I just love the way he takes hold of the situation and puts her in her place.  Not that I’m about men putting women in places, but it works in this scene.

4.  Titanic-The color of the sky, the costumes, LEO!!!  This is a truly magical kiss.

 5.  Sixteen Candles–Ahh, Jake Ryan.  Didn’t every girl who grew up in the 80’s want to kiss Jake Ryan.  Gosh was he was dreamy.    Anyway, this is a great kiss:

So, what famous movie kiss do you think should be added to this list?

This post is part of Movie Madness.  If you haven’t already entered the giveaway, go here.

Oh So Noah

I am taking a quick break from my vacation to check weather for tomorrow (and of course half a million other important useless things online) and look what I found:

Doesn’t Ryan Gosling look like he did in The Notebook?  Except that he would be carrying a book of poetry or love letters or something more romantic than coffee.  But whatever.   Oh, how I love me some Noah Calhoun- young Noah, older Noah (especially older Noah, but not so much really old James Garner Noah).

While we’re on the subject of Noah, I may as well post my favorite Notebook fan video. I didn’t make it, but whole-heartedly recommend it:

Ok, back to my vacation.

All good things must come to an end.  My Bloggy Giveaway is officially closed to any new entries.  According to a random drawing, the winner is……

Random Integer Generator

Here are your random numbers:

274

Timestamp: 2008-04-26 04:16:35 UTC

That means Grace from Kids Health Notes is the winner.  Thanks to everyone who entered and left so many wonderful recommendations for me.  I had no idea people were as passionate about chick flicks (or maybe it was the possibility of free stuff) as I was.

I noticed that there were quite a few films that continued to come up over and over again.  Because I will do pretty much anything to avoid cleaning my house, I went through the nearly 400 comments and pulled out the 10 most popular films and here they are:

  1. The Notebook (no surprise here, what’s not to love)
  2. Pride and Prejudice  (I love this one, but surprised to see so many others listed it since it is so long)
  3. You’ve Got Mail
  4. The Princess Bride (see below for my thoughts on this one)
  5. Titanic
  6. Sleepless in Seattle
  7. Sweet Home Alabama
  8. Pretty Woman
  9. While You Were Sleeping
  10. Notting Hill

And the runners up included Ever After, Dirty Dancing, When Harry Met Sally, Gone With The Wind, Love Actually, Sense and Sensibility, The Lake House, and Return to Me

Many people couldn’t pick just one so it was pretty time consuming to go through the list and count. I’ll have a poll up on the sidebar pretty soon to try to narrow it down to the absolute favorite.  So, stay tuned for that.  I’m sure you are on the edge of your seat with anticipation.

I agree with most of the choices but I have to say that “The Princess Bride” comes awfully close to hobbit territory.  So, I really hesitated even letting it appear on the list, but since so many of you love it, I felt guilty leaving it off.  Believe me I really wanted to leave it off, but fair is fair.  I just have to say that I’ve attempted to watch the movie a couple times, but I just don’t get it.  What am I missing?

Surprisingly, there were a couple of movies that showed up in my comments that I have actually never seen.  I’ll be sure to add them to my Netflix queue when I sign back up again this summer (Note:  We only do Netflix/Blockbuster thing over the summer because there just isn’ t much on tv then and if we didn’t have something on the screen we may just be forced to actually have a conversation and that is a scary thought.)

Here is a list of just a few of the ones that I will be checking out soon:

  • Emma
  • Love Comes Softly
  • 27 Dresses
  • Jane Eyre
  • Somewhere in Time
  • No Reservations
  • Sabrina
  • Persuasion

We actually rented one on the list that someone recommended–Becoming Jane.  I have to say that I cried like a baby at the end, which I wasn’t expecting.  I thought Anne Hathaway was believable as Jane Austen (not that I’ve met her or anything) and I am now really crushing on James McAvoy.  He was seriously charming in his role as Tom Lefroy.  There was one scene in particular that made me gasp with delight.  It was the scene at the ball when Jane was looking for Tom and couldn’t find him, but then he just sort of appears as in the middle of the dance.  It was magical.  There were some dull parts, but overall I really enjoyed this movie.

It’s been so much fun reading all the comments and I hope that there will be more (even though I’m too poor to continue to pay you to do so, just so you know).

Presenting GosWatch

As I mentioned before here, I have a major celebrity crush on Ryan Gosling.  It all started when I watched the Notebook, but it turned into a full blown, unhealthy obsession after I saw this:

Sadly, he and Rachel McAdams are no longer together (I still hold out for the day that she sees his picture in the paper and realizes that he built a house for her and knows that she must marry him and not the rich guy.  And he can say ”It wasn’t over…It still isn’t over.” )

Since this is my blog and I can be as ridiculous as I want to be, I thought I’d start a new tradition called “GosWatch”.   If there are any new pics, gossip, movie rumors, love interest rumors (of course they’d all be untrue unless they involved me or Rachel) I’ll post them here.  So, without  further ado, I give you your daily dose of Gos.

A couple of quick comments about the above pic:  First it was taken in NYC where he is filming his new movie “All Good Things” with Kirsten Dunst.  I have also been reading that they are now an item.   This was after someone saw them canoodling (I really hate that word) at a restaurant.  I refuse to accept this, so we will move on.

Now, as for the picture above, it was supposedly snapped recently.  Ummm, isn’t it spring?  What’s with the tweed?   I’m not really up on all the rules of fashion, but I do think that it is more of a fall fabric.   Does he have a problem regulating his body temperature?  I would be more than willing to help out.    I just love how he always looks like he gets his outfits at the Good Will.  Check out the shoes–so very un-Hollywood.  I know I sound like I’m picking on him but I can assure you that this isn’t the case.  His quirky sense of style just makes me swoon over him even more.

Well that wraps up this addition of GosWatch.  Stay tuned…
